Suffice it to say that my job is no more. I go in tomorrow to get my last pay check. I will survive. I have my pension and some back up plans that I am working on. I am now officially retired. No more tax returns for me, except for my own. |

Happened on Monday at the end of the work day. No, I did not see it coming at all. I don't know what happened, although I suspect it has something to do with my political views. I have been advised to go in tomorrow and basically say nothing. Tell him I consider myself fired as of Monday, pay me for my work, vacation and medical reimbursement plan and leave. He actually expected me to work until October 15, but I am not going to do it. I'd love to plaster the windows with Obama stickers, but he would know who did it. My sister has offered me her rental house in Iowa when my current lease is up. That is my back up plan. I can survive this lease, but not when they raise the rent next year. Going to talk to them tomorrow to see if it is possible to change the terms of the lease I signed two weeks ago to 9 months from 12 months. Thanks for your concern, Bill. I appreciate it very much. |

Bill, here you don't deserve to be told why. They HAVE to tell you why. If it's for her political affiliation, that has no merit. |

If you got fired for your political beliefs then you have a right to sue his butt, because employers shouldn't be allowed to fire you because of your poltical beliefs. And he does has to tell you why, if not, you should get a lawyer and make him tell you. It just seems unfair to fire someone over their beliefs. |

I'm sorry about this job situation, Linda. If it was politically motivated, that's not right! I guess IF there is any bright side to this, at least you won't be subject to listening to Rush anymore....(I know how much you "like" him) !I hope it all works out for you!

Sorry to hear about this Linda. I hope you are able to enjoy your 'retirement' and won't have too many money worries. However, a lady of your skills and knowledge in your field should not have many problems finding a temporary job in the tax season should financial needs need to be met. From everything you have been saying about this ass of an employer, you're better off out of there. Although you are entitled to know why you have been fired (and surely they wouldn't be stupid enough to state that it is because of your political beliefs), for the amount of time you have been working there, suing would probably be counter-productive. Unless, of course, you get it in black and white that it was because of your beliefs. In which case, a decent lawyer would have a field day. |

Colorado is an "at will" state. They don't have to tell you why you are fired. As for medical insurance, I am covered by the federal employees health insurance program. I have a federal pension and I will survive financially. I just can't do anything extra. He is too smart to say that it is because of my political beliefs. I will try for unemployment. I will not miss listening to Rush on a daily basis, that's for sure. Wish me luck. I'm off to see the assh*le now. |

Linda, since you have nothing to lose, you might as well try and goad him into telling you why. He can't do any more to you and you might just get a confession out of him. If nothing else, tell him what a lazy princess his daughter is.

He is going to fight me on the unemployment. I told him he terminated me and he said he didn't. This should be fun. Yes, his lazy no good daughter is going to have to work for a change. He did pay me all of my money that I had coming. A large chunk of it is now in a savings account to get me to Iowa next summer. Talked to the landlord here. I can't change the lease so it ends next summer when my sister can come out and move me. However, I can use Craig's List to get somebody to take over the lease. They said they get calls every day for short term leases and they refer them to Craig's List. They said everybody they know about has been successful on Craig's List. Once they pay the application fee and get approved, my name would come off the lease and my responsibility would end. Still not feeling very chipper and I couldn't sleep last night knowing I had to do this. I'm glad we did it first thing. He was quite surprised when I showed up in blue jeans and went straight to his desk and made it very clear I was never lifting a finger for him again. I also used the term that my counsel had advised me. I hope he thinks that I have talked to an attorney. It was really my former boss at the IRS. |

Thanks to everyone for your concern. I will be fine once the shock wears off and I get some more definite plans. When I asked for time off to attend the Obama rally, he said "I never would have hired you if I had known you were a Democrat. I don't think I've ever had a Democrat work for me before.". I will tell the unemployment office about this statement. |

Linda, I have this feeling he's going to deny ever saying that. If he's going to fight the unemployment, he's going to come up with ways to make you "pay." You should do anything you can to make this asswipe get what he deserves. Nobody should fire a person over their political views. |

(((Linda))) What a jerk. If he said he didn't fire you, then show up to work and do yournormal assignment till he says something to you. Either he fired/dismissed you or he didn't, tell him to make up his mind~ with a smile :-) I loved to have you live closer to us but I know how much you love Colorado. My daughter had no problem subletting her apartment when they bought their house. Your going to succeed no matter where you live. I think were playing phone tag and I'm *it* now.

Adilah, thank you so much for your wisdom. I won't have much financial security, but my pension is secure. It's just that the cost of living in Colorado is too high for my pension. I will probably file the claim for unemployment on Monday. I will cite the creation of a working environment due to Rush Limbaugh. |

Lisa, I am going to file the unemployment claim and see what happens. I do not have the money or energy to file a lawsuit. My former co-worker called last night and he told her that I quit. She has told him that he can expect no extra hours from her between now and April 15. She also ran into one of the seasonal people over the weekend and she is not coming back. This part I really loved. His wonderful daughter flunked her first test for the H & R Block course, so he will be totally up a creek.

Oh Linda, I am so so sorry about this. What that jackass did you is illegal and unconstutional. It goes against your civil rights and people like this shouldn't be allowed to get away with this behaviour! It's cases like this that make me glad I'm going into civil rights law. Your graious attidude to this pig is wonderful and makes me happy to know that there are still people out in this world who are good. As for the lapdog of Mr Oxicotin, I hope he has a walk out of all non family employees if that's how he treats others who do not share his veiws. How I'd love to get that man onto a stand and badger him......... |
