Je t'aime, moi non plus' I know Sean has a HUGE crush on Jane Birkin, I think she is his platonic love. |

Lennon's solo début 'Into the Sun', was released in 1998. A music video for "Home", a single from the album, was directed by Spike Jonze and enjoyed extended airplay on MTV. The album was produced by fellow Cibo Matto member Yuka Honda, who Lennon claimed was his inspiration for the album. They struck up a personal relationship as well as a creative one. Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori, of Cibo Matto, are both featured in the video along with director Spike Jonze. 1998 Sean Lennon - 'Home' (3:10) |

Yet another walk on the wild side for Sean in April 2000, when 'At Home With the Groovebox' was released. 2000-04-04 Sean Lennon - 08 'Winged Elephants' (At Home With the Groovebox) (2.58) Posted Image This collection might serve as exhibit A in a counter-argument to the persistent fear that electronic instruments will make everyone sound alike and take the individuality out of music. Over the course of these fourteen tracks, it becomes clear that it is not the tool used that makes or breaks a piece of music. Rather it continues to boil down to which musicians have something to say and which do not? Who has a active point of view as opposed to a passive point of review? The premise of this album is to hand an MC-505 "groovebox" to a cross-current of contemporary musical artists...and let their creative juices flow! The MC-505 is basically a minimalist workstation of sorts, one with which artists can build tracks employing a variety of vintage analog synth sounds (drums, bass, synths, percussion, etc.). Many of the sounds will be familiar to anyone who has heard an advertisement over the last several decades, let alone music from virtually all corners of the contemporary pop music scene. The presence of pop-culture visionaries Cibo Matto and their helping hand/group member Sean Lennon attracted me to the package, and neither disappoints on this mostly-instrumental collection. In fact, Lennon's track really displays a side of him far removed from the shadow of his parents, Cibo Matto, and his previous solo work. Besides them, artists as varied as Buffalo Daughter, Beck, Air, Money Mark, and Sonic Youth create a diverse array of textures and rhythms. Even jazz veteran Dick Hyman effectively works his personality into the machine. In all cases the artists bring their vivid musical imaginations to the table, and take this concept beyond novelty and into something intrinsically worthy of repeat listens. Some tracks lock into dance-oriented grooves, while others exploit the more ethereal colorations within the box (and with great success, many of the featured artists do BOTH). The end result is that the listener is not likely to notice the concept, but rather the end results. |

I just found this video on youtube Sean Lennon and Arnaldo Baptista. Arnaldo has some problems that's why he acts crazy. He tried suicide once but it didn't work. This concert was at the Free Jazz Festival in Sao Paulo and I was there. :innocent: Here's the video. It's so cute Sean saying thank you in Portuguese "Obrigado" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5A57cf-9R0 Sean was so fascinated about Os Mutantes that he made Illustrations, Handwriting for the album. Inside the album there is more stuff, very cool. heh Posted Image Posted Image Panis Et Circenses video from 1969 in Portuguese You will find Technicolor in his discography  http://www.seanonolennon.com/discography.htm The album Tecnicolor is ok, it was recorded in 1970 and it was found and released in 2000. Many of their songs were translated into English language, and for an English speaker their lyrics will sound silly because it is a different kind of humor, heh, you can't be smart in English and in Portuguese at the same time. My favourite song of the album is BABY   I wonder about Sean, what's his favourite  I'd sing Baby for him, LOL. Nooo I wouldn't :innocent: 3 songs of the album, heh Tecnicolor - Os Mutantes tchu tchururu tchutchutchruuuu Baby - Os Mutantes    Panis et circenses - Os Mutantes cra cra cra cra |

Oh, you're good! I will check out some more Os Mutantes later also. I love that song 'Panis et Circenses', Caetano Veloso's song, that you posted above and I cannot believe that you were actually there! :yahoo: Arnaldo Baptista reminds me a little bit of the Brazilian Syd Barrett. Born from a lyric singer father and a pianist mother, Arnaldo studied classic piano from 1955 to 1959, double bass from 1962 to 1963, and acoustic guitar from 1963 to 1965. In 1966 he formed the influential Os Mutantes band with his brother Sérgio Dias and Rita Lee, where he played bass, keyboards and sang. Os Mutantes played a key role in the Tropicalismo movement. Arnaldo left the band in 1973 due to fights with the other members of the band and the excessive use of LSD. In 1974 he tried to work as a musical producer, with no success. This motivated him to try a solo career, and in the same year, he released the album Lóki, which is considered his best work. Arnaldo recorded two albums with the band Patrulha do Espaço between 1977 and 1978, and later resumed his solo career. In 2006, Os Mutantes reunited without Rita Lee, and Arnaldo plays with his brother Sérgio and the drummer Dinho Leme once more, 33 years after leaving the band. in 2007 Arnaldo left the band again to take care of personal projects. Nowadays, Arnaldo lives with his wife Lucinha Barbosa, in the city of Juiz de Fora, where he spends most of his time painting, singing and writing songs. After the reunion of Os Mutantes, and its great importance in Brazilian rock music, Arnaldo's career seems to have a new perspective. Another song from Sean from 1999. 1999 Handsome Boy Modeling School - So...How's Your Girl 'Sunshine' w Sean Lennon, Father Guido Sarducci, Josh (4.09) In 1999, they released the concept album So... How's Your Girl?, which was loosely based on an episode of the Chris Elliott sitcom Get a Life entitled "The Prettiest Week of My Life." The episode also contains the origin of the name Handsome Boy Modeling School, where Chris Elliott's character enrolls to become a male model. In the album, Dan and Paul assume the characters of Nathaniel Merriweather and Chest Rockwell, respectively. A number of guest musicians appear, including Del tha Funkee Homosapien, J-Live, Sean Lennon, Miho Hatori (of Cibo Matto), Mike D (of the Beastie Boys) and Don Novello (as comic character Father Guido Sarducci). Now we will examine Sean's first album 'Into the Sun'. Here are a few of my personal favorites starting with the first half of the album: Lennon's solo début Into the Sun, was released in 1998. The album was produced by fellow Cibo Matto member Yuka Honda, who Lennon claimed was his inspiration for the album. They struck up a personal relationship as well as a creative one. He would go on to tour (often backed by Cibo Matto) supporting Into The Sun. During this period he would appear on radio programs such as The Howard Stern Show and KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic. He would later recall promoting the album as a bitter experience due to the media focus on his family rather than his own music. Sean Lennon - 01 'Mystery Juice' (5:26) Sean Lennon - 02 'Into The Sun' (with Miho Hatori of Cibo Matto) (3:22) Sean Lennon - 03 'Home' (3:05) Sean Lennon - 04 'Bathtub' (4:00) Sean Lennon - 05 'One Night' (2:05) Sean Lennon - 06 'Spaceship' (4:17) |

Yeah, Arnaldo Baptista is known as Brazilian Syd Barrett, heh, I love him. He doesn't mean to be a Brazilian Syd Barrett, he is just a little crazy, that's all. I am a friend of Sergio Dias, his brother. :D Lapis, if you would like to hear Arnaldo solo career, you can visit a fan myspace I created for him. "Desculpe" is sooo sad... My favourite is Fell in love one day and Te amo podes crer. When I am down I cry so much listening to Te amo podes crer, LOL, goofy. http://www.myspace.com/arnaldobaptista I really like all Sean's music you post here. :) |

Just a reminder that we shouldn't be posting any material that is available for purchase, commercially, from any recognised online or physical music retailler. Any links to youtube are OK. Live performances, rarities and any other material otherwise unavailable is considered fair game, but anything else is a no-no here. I have to say that I fully appreciate the intent of the thread, though. |

OK, I will stick to the rareities from here on out. I don't think you can actually still purchase 'Into the Sun' ($0.61) or 'Half Horse/Half Musician' ($30) anywhere other than eBay or Amazon.com, but that is fine by me. 1999 Medeski, Martin & Wood 06 Sugar Craft (Yuka Honda Remix) (Sean on synthesizer and clavinet) (4.11) Combustication Remix EP, also called Combustication Remixes, is an EP released by Medeski Martin & Wood. It consists of various artists' remixes of songs from their album Combustication. Track listing "Hey-Hee-Hi-Ho" (illyB remix) – 3:54 "Whatever Happened to Gus" (Word to the Drums mix) – 4:39 "Start-Stop" (DJ Logic remix) – 6:32 "Nocturne" (Automator remix) – 5:41 "Sugar Craft" (Yuka Honda remix) – 4:10 "Satan's Church of Hypnotized Logic" (Bill Laswell remix) – 10:04 |

Thank you, Mr. Lee. Hope you don't think I'm being a jobsworth, but we have to think about the legalities of what we can turn a blind eye to here. ^_^ |

No, Sean gave me the same crap next door. I guess those copies of 'Into the Sun' are still flying off the shelf... Besides if anyone really wanted a copy they could just *cough*PM*cough...go to a store and buy it. Fortunately I have over 185 tracks of Sean's and only 34 were ever released 'officially'. :yahoo: Here is one I bet you haven't heard before with Sean contributing vocals on Deltron 3030. Deltron 3030 - 'Memory Loss' (Sean Lennon vocals) (4.39) Deltron 3030 The group's debut album Deltron 3030, released on May 23, 2000, is a concept album set in the year 3030 that tells of the fight against huge corporations that rule the universe by Del's alter ego, Deltron Zero. The lyrics were written in less than two weeks and are characterized by extravagant allusions to futuristic outer-space themes in the tradition of Afrofuturist works by Sun Ra and George Clinton. Following the release of the album, all three members worked on the Gorillaz' self-titled debut album. |
