I've been thinking about getting into martial arts for a while now.

I'm leaning towards some type of mixed martial arts, i.e. not too traditional but rather something which includes elements of kick-boxing, taekwando and karate. One of the schools I've contacted seems to fit the bill when it comes to this philosophy.

So...I would be interested to hear if anyone here has studied martial arts?
If so what have been your experiences?

Thanks!

You won't regret it. I put all 4 of my kids in karate (Tang So Do) and it's been a great experience for them. My 2 girls are black belts and one son is a 2nd degree black belt. The other son is a 4th degree and owns his own karate studio. There have been so many positives to our experience in martial arts. My only regret is that I didn't do it along with them.

Wackadoo, that's so cool that you mentioned that because I do Tang Soo Do too...

Anyway, I've done it for.. man, this is my 8th year (so, half of my life XD) and it's completely worth it. Sometimes it's so trying and you feel you're having a lot of trouble, but you go home knowing you've accomplished something.

So yes, a thumbs up from me! :)
all of those pictures on the wall...
what makes them fall?

Great. Thanks.

I think I will go visit one of the schools, probably will have to be in a while though when I have some time off.

I studied capoeira and karate. People think capoeira is a dance, but it is a martial art. Good times, my body changed so much when I was playing capoeira. It's not easy, btw. I still can play it, but it's so mediocre. If I have some discipline and organization in my life, it's because of those capoeira and karate years. I will have some classes again in December, when I am back home for the summer. Choose something and don't stop, go on, you will have many benefits. Karate I studied when I was a child.
