I would like to congratulations to her. Despite my obvious objections to having a baby this young I hope she is or becomes more responsible now more than ever for the baby if for no other reason. I wish her the best.

http://omg.yahoo.com/jamie-lynn-spears-welcomes-baby-girl/news/9963?nc

McCOMB, Miss. -- Jamie Lynn Spears has given birth to a baby girl, according to several reports.

The 17-year-old Jamie Lynn gave birth to daughter Maddie Briann at Mississippi Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi, at around 9:30 AM local time, People reported.

"Just the family was there," a source told People. "Everyone is healthy and happy."

The hospital is approximately 23 miles from the Spears family's hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.

The baby, who was fathered by fellow teen Casey Aldridge, weighed 7 lbs., 11 ounces, according to Us Weekly.

Jamie Lynn and Casey got engaged in March, People previously reported.

Both Jamie Lynn and Britney were photographed entering the facility separately early Thursday.

On Wednesday, Britney was photographed at LAX catching a plane bound for Louisiana, along with her father, Jamie, brother Bryan and her assistant, Bret, People reported.

In December, a rep for Nickelodeon confirmed to Access Hollywood the "Zoey 101" star was expecting her first child.

The whole Spears family could use some good counseling.
I'm guessing grandma will have a big part is raising the baby.

I do hope the baby is healthy, and am sure she is a cutie.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This family is so dysfunction and it isn't funny for any of them.

Considering how her own daughters turned out, I'm not sure that's such a good idea.

I agree, Bill~
But who else does this baby have?

A 17 year old child for a mother, a 17 year old child for a dad, Britney for an aunt, and the matriarch of the Spears clan as a grandma.
Wonder if the paternal grandma has any brains for raising a child....... :hmm:

From what I've read and heard, Jamie Lynn and Casey (her fiance) have been very responsible people. Jamie Lynn, even though she's only 17 years old, seems more mature in a way than Britany. I think, personally, she'll do fine as a Mom.
Congrats to Jamie Lynn and Casey.

Britney seemed more mature at 17 than she does now. Then the overcompensation kicks in. We shall see.... unfortunately.

Sorry, but what I have read says anything but responsible.

With all the birth protection options today, there is no reason for a 17 year old kid to get pregnant. The failure rate is extremely low when used properly.
She rode 4 wheelers during pregnancy, any physician will tell you this is dangerous for both baby and mother.
Thousands of young, impressionable girls watched her Nickelodeon show "Zoey101" and looked up to her as a role model.

They will play house for a short time, and then when the pressure of having an innocent baby to take care of hits them, they will break up and her mom will be raising this baby-and she didn't do a great job with either Jamie Lynn or Britney.

As I said before, this whole family needs counseling, and a lot of it.

Babies having babies-not a good idea.

well its not as if they were under the legal age to do this so its done. Young mums can be good mums. If the legal age to have sex over 16 then what is considered the appropriate age to have children?

This kind of stuff has gone on in the past and i think it sometimes is easier to do and mainly for the reason Bill gave. Some people are still uneducated in this thing so its to easy to pin blame

...and parents getting more involved, knowing exactly who, what, where, and when there kids are getting involved in. One thing I can tell you from experience, kids do stupid things mainly due to lack of (as Bill mentioned) education or experience. They can't grasp the serious consiquences of their mistakes because of that lack of experience or understanding. That why they are called kids, and that's why kids have parents to teach them. You can't JUST deppend on the school to teach them everything, parents must be involved. Saddly there are bad parents who don't give a fly crap!

My paternal grandmother had her first child at age 15, way back in the early 1900's. She ended up having 12 children in the next 15 years. That was a total lack of knowledge and probably no known way to stop getting pregnant.

I've seen some of my young relatives act like the baby was a doll rather than a child. When it gets older and throws tantrums, they leave it with their mom and go party.

ok this has been slightly frustrating me this whole stuff because both these threads initially implied that this type of stuff has never happened before. This isn't a new thing to have happened in the world. Christ how it was dealt with in the past was probably even worse we are just more aware of it now

But nowadays teen pregnancy is looked down upon. Many people think that if you're a teen, you can't be a good mother. I had a good friend in high school who got pregnant and she turned out to be a great mom.
I'm giving Jamie Lynn the benefit of the doubt that she'll do the right thing. Do you think they should take the babies away from the teen mothers? Is that you guys want? That's what I'm getting the impression of.

teen pregnancy has always been looked down upon (unless they were married of course) its more the issue of determining when is an appropriate time to have a child in modern society. I dont really get how if the legal age is 16 that this is in effect signalling adult life and ultimately the chance to have children or not.

I dont think anybody wants to take a child from their mother regardless of age unless they are a shocking parent (ant that implies to parents of all ages) I just think the majority of us would like them to have a bit of a life which to an extent can be lost once you have had a kid

YAY!!!! Barb you're #1!!!

Seriously, I know this is a big topic, but why make it? If it doesn't effect us, why are we talking about Jamie Lynn and her pregnancy? There are more important things in the world to get our knickers in a twist over. Maybe it's just me.
