Lets hope more people decide to stay off planes in future because the planet needs the breather. Terminal five will loose your bagage, trap you in a lift or maybe you flight will be cancelled completely. Some of the gangways won't detach from the plans too. Any other cock ups? If everyone used other transport instead off short haul flights then there'd be no need to expand for the long haul flights. I don't blame the passengers but the authorites for not investing in our transport systems properly. |

The trouble with governments in this country is that they rarely look beyond their term of office. What we need is a high speed rail network linking London, Heathrow Airport, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcasle and Edinburgh, with branches off to Manchester etc. Looking at some airline websites it's cheaper to fly to Scotland than go by train! As each year passes the roads and railways get more congested. It will take at least 10 - 15 years to build a high speed rail network. The government should be starting to plan now. |

yup its far cheaper to travel by plain and I hate it.I used to fly about 3-4 times a year when I was living down south. It is the cheapest and quickest option. I rarely bother looking at train prices although when I had my phase of being scared of flying they were over £100 (single) from Edinburgh to London and no way was I paying that. Now I just get coach but I would far rather get the train. They should try working on that more. All the major airports are expanding and as I live just opposit the airport we are always getting crap about it.Still talk of a second runway  |

When I was looking at going from London to Edinburgh in May, I found it was cheaper to fly than to take the train. So, I am flying. It wasn't cheaper to fly from Edinburgh to Liverpool and I didn't look into flying from there to London. It's a sad state of affairs when flying is cheaper than a train. |

That why I'm all in favour of significant dollops of green tax on air travel. Okay so it's just another way to fill up the treasurey with the pretty peices of promises to pay the bearer on demand but it would level the playing field. |

er I would be more fine with it if trains were bloody cheaper, although to be honest unless I really have to I doubt I'll be using planes often when going anywhere in the UK |

Well, for some the price and convenience of short-haul flights is a priority. So I don't mind the expansion of the airport as such, and I was living close to it when it was being discussed. I mostly use the train within the UK, but have to say that it can add up. I recently paid about £35 to take a train to Bristol. For that, I could take a cheap flight up north or even mainland Europe. |

Train fares really need to be easier to use, very complicated but in many cases they are a lot cheap than people realise. |

well I did read recently that there had been problems with companies selling tickets in that they often didnt state the cheapest ticket which does not surprise me at all. I agree that they should make it easier. I do love going on the train but it can be such a hassle with tickets. I was nearly fined recently because someone at Stirling station sold me a cheaper ticket which went past Dundee. He said I could get off there but it was technically for somewhere else a bit further up the track (cannae mind where) but when I tried to get through at Dundee I got such crap from them there they said I should be fined. I eventually talked my way round it thankfully |

Train fares were already needlessly complicated and then the railways were privatised leading to companies introducing franchise spesific fares on top of all ready exsisting ones. It's a shame as railways could be the greenest, cheapest and most pleasent way of getting around Britain if only a government would invest properly. |

Since I will be doing a short haul flight from London to Edinburgh, I am glad I am not flying out of T5. |
