One-fifth of the 3,000 British teenagers interviewed in a recent survey believed that Winston Churchill was fictional, not real. However 65% believed King Arthur was real.

As far as I know one made the sweeping generalisation that Americans were the dumbest on the planet. What non-Americans can't understand, if you're so smart, what on earth possessed you to elect the dumbest man on the planet as your leader?

The Beatles were fictional, duh. They were characters in an Australian soap opera in the mid '80s inspired by the Gilligan's Island episode with Bingo, Bango, Bongo and Irving.

Well, as you can probably tell, I was in a bit of a mood when I came up with this thread. ;)

Actually, surveys like this are being given to and cited about Americans all the time, so turnabout is fair play. Particularly after questions and answers such as these where Americans were shown to have the IQs and education levels of turtles.

Ah Mia, I dont think that's true. If that's true, where is the freedom? America is almost like Cuba where people dont know anything about the world. Cuba because of the government and America...? I think the real national trait at work here is that ignorant Americans (and I class those as separate from the rest) are perhaps less self-aware that ignorant people of other nationalities and therefore don't try to cover their ignorance.

  I beg to differ. I spent many, many summers in Brooklyn while I was growing up. There is a difference. Perhaps by some standards they are very small, but that is usually from those that are uneducated of the nuances that make NY.

Upstate doesn`t even count. As far as true NY`ers are concerned they live in a completely different world.
