i just finished reading dorothy's entry in the thread about standing up for yourself and was going to answer there but decided to make a new topic of it. in that thread dorothy described how the girls at her 'home' made her and two other girls fight. and talked about sticking needles in the other girls. and they were only 8. and i thought, this, dorothy, is how you turned out to be the person that you are and you are very loved. everything in life is a lesson. everything that happens to us happens for a reason and we are a product of what happens to us throughout life. some things are so very hard you don't think you'll make it, but in the end, it was for a purpose and you gain something important. a new facet of what is going to be you. we could probably all tell stories of our youth and some of the things that happened, i.e. i was born in chicago. we had LOTS roaches and rats in our apartment and my father hardly made any money. we were skinny and had soup for most of our meals. mom had to make do with $18 a week to feed us. we were punished with 'the belt'. my brothers were forced to stand in the corner for hours with a ton of books on extended arms when they were bad (dad was a marine). we weren't allowed to touch the tv when dad wasn't around so he set up thread (as a boobytrap) throughout the living room to see if he could catch any of us going against his rules. it sounds terrible but he was a product of his upbringing which was he, at 8 years old, sold newspapers on the street corner only to have his parents steal it from him. his father was a drunk. his mother didn't know how to mother. he could never trust them, they would rob their own son for whatever they could get. i could go on and on. but now that i'm older i see what some of these things have done to make us the people that we are. some of us are born into wealth, or with talent (like Connie Talbot), some of us have to work hard at obtaining something that we can do well. we all have stories to tell. we love and lose. we win sometimes, and sometimes it just doesn't go our way. but we are learning each and every day. some people have fatal accidents and their families are forced to relive those terrible times. some people ask, "why wasn't it me, how did i get so lucky"...they might feel guilt because they escaped what might have happened to them. life is really amazing when you think of it. and we each have a story to tell. so when things happen to us, it's just one more aspect of what is going to make us the people that we are. and that goes with you until the very end. (i don't know where all this came from but i just had to say it! sometimes i really think what is the use of complaining? it's going to happen anyway! :P) |

| There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. -- Douglas Adams | |

i think the point i was trying to make was accept yourself for who you are and others for who they are. good and bad...we all have reasons for why we are the way we are. when i see needless picking on others i think it's such a waste of energy. |
