In another group I'm in, I started this thread about if people there are vegetarians or meat eaters. Well, some oe the people there don't seem to be educated with the vegetarian lifestyle and are saying stuff like, "Humans were made to be meat eaters." I wanted to find some good websites to dispel myths and educate the meat eaters in the group that vegetarians aren't abnormal. Can you guys help? |

I don't quite know if 'educate' is the right word, Molly, because both are opinions and beliefs as opposed to facts. Of course, some of those opinions are based on facts, but there are arguments on both sides as to whether humans were literally meant to eat meat or not. The thought of vegetarians attempting to 'educate' meat eaters would across as a little antagonistic and perhaps arrogant which wouldn't be the best way to reach people. Fiona has a lot of veggie sites saved on her 'favourites', so she's said she'll have a look later to see if there's anything friendly and non-judgemental worth showing to your group.

Facts and figures and logical arguments are nice but if you want to convince someone of something use soundbites and bumper stickers. |

Here's a short article. I'll see if I can find anything else but it's probably just best to keep it simple: Humans don't digest meat well, that's a fact. Doctors tell us to stay away from red meat because it causes all sorts of nasties. Humans keep animals as pets and most would be disgusted to watch animals (even the ones they find tasty) being slaughtered so something tells me that our sensitive connection with animals and 'intelligence' means we're supposed to live harmoniously with other animals We have teeth and stomachs like most herbivores, not carnivores. If we were taken to the wild and stripped of all our modern tools we wouldn't be able to tackle, shred or prepare meat so there's nothing natural about it. |

there have also been studies on this and it has been proven. I have them in greek, I'll see if they can be found in english. Here is a site with frequently asked questions about animal rights and vegetarian ethics, and very good, simple answers to them. |

Biologically humans are omnivores. Some can't digest meat properly but some can't digest chocolate either. I pity those poor souls. What omnivores eat is based on opportunity and if you're human, conscience. |
