Jamie Lynn Spears is Pregnant; Should Nickelodeon Cancel Her Show?

As most of you know by now, Britney's younger sister, Jamie Lynn is now pregnant. She's only sixteen years old.
My question is, should Nickelodeon cancel her show? I'm not sure, but it might be a good idea to, because if she was still on the show it might show her fans that it's okay to get pregnant at an early age.

I'm in agreeance with Jayne here. Although, i'm sure they wouldn't do it, it would surprise me if they did.

My cousin got pregnant at the age of 15, she was far from ready for being a mother, but sadly she lost it. She then became pregnant again at 17, still a far cry from being ready, and again she lost it.
I think 16.. is too young to have a child and whether they cancel her or not is something we'll just have to wait and see.

Don't like the idea of a pregnant teen hosting a Nickelodeon TV series, I must say!

Yes.

It's about time we, the public, stop glorifying all the bad behavior from these Hollywood morons. From Lohan to Spears to all the rest of these talentless girls-I am sick of hearing about them. Now this 16 year old is pregnant, living with her boyfriend and along with her loser mother all over the news. I read they have already sold the pictures rights for 1 million dollars. Un- frickin'-believable.

They all, including the moms need a "damn good whacking" just like the piggies on the White Album.

I have to agree with you there, it sends the wrong message to teens. If I heard correctly her boyfriend is 19, can we say "statutory rape". Now I understand there is only 2-3 years diffrence between them, I have myself dated women that were at least 3 years my minor/senior, however we both were 18 or older. Besides, I think a girl at that age should be worried more about going to the prom or getting a drivers license, not getting pregnant.

Do I think they should cancel her show? Not having seen it, nor have any inclinations to do so, I have to say that why would they? This is a golden opportunity to teach kids and teens what it is like for a teenager to have children. There is not glorification there, none at all.

You're welcome Jayne. Just doing my job, hehe! Just adding on to your great thoughts, m'dear! :D

I have no idea what her show is like but should they decide to keep the show somehow it will have to be dealt with. They can cop out and only shoot her from certain angles or deal with it head-on and show what life is like for teen pregnancy.

exactly - they need to show that being a parent isn't about having children and then 'palming' them off on others which some teenage parents think (and I should know coz Ive worked with a few who think that :() having children as all us parents here on this board know is a big struggle (even when there are 2 of you) and definiatley no holiday :(

Statutory rape? Depends, of course, on the state in which they live and the applicable laws. As you know, the AOC varies from state to state and a 16 & 19 year old having sex in the UK would be perfectly legal.

It wouldn't serve any purpose to prosecute the father, in my opinion - he would be far more useful being around to care for the child than stuck in a prison for doing something that would be classified as legal in a vast amount of states and countries.

Personally, I think 16 is far too young to have children, however, all of my cousins had kids before they were seventeen, and my 37 year old cousin is a grandmother to her 22 year old son's 5 year old.

For years I had always felt that my mother felt trapped and didn`t really want me. The moment I knew it was true was when my cousin who was 2 years my senior got pregnant as a teen. My mom was crying about it and saying she will have a millstone around her neck for the rest of her life.

A 16 year old has no business having a chld. However once that child is on the way, I think it very important to have a loving unit of support to come together to make the best of a not so ideal situation. I hope that they are able to nurture and love this child and make them always feel they are wanted, loved, and valued.

There is a lesson in all this and it's that this is what comes of trying to be artificially wholesome.

Does anyone remember when Britney was the poster-child for keeping yourself nice? Was anyone really surprised when it turned into a train wreck?

If more kids were brought up with a healthy, realistic understanding of sex and how their bodies work, I'm certain there would be less teenage pregnancies. It's funny how the ones who don't go around wearing abstinence bracelets turn out okay. The message being sent is: "Crap on about being a virgin all the time and you too can turn out like Britney Spears."

16 is too young to have a child but it's also probably too young to have your own tv show so who knows what passes for reality in Spears-world. These girls lost their childhood long before getting pregnant.

Both Britney and Jamie Lyn are results of bad parenting. Their mom believe it or not is attempting to sell the picture of her soon to be granddaughter for a million dollars. :nono:

To be a parent you need love, commitment, stability, time and a LOT of patience. Whether Jamie Lynn & partner have any of these remains to be seen

They say giving birth makes you mature a lot so we'll see. I do however wish her all the best :sweet:

I was watching Good Morning America today and Lisa Whelchel (Blair on Facts of Life) was on with her teenage daughter. I didn't see the full interview with her, but she said that people are attacking Lynn Spears unfairly. She says it's not just the parents fault, but from what I got from what I saw, she thinks society has been partially to blame, plus both Jaime Lynn and Britany's fame.
We can judge Lynn and her husband for their "bad parenting" all we want, but do you think it's fair to do so? How would like it if someone bashed you on your parenting?

Molly, I don't think Lynne Spears is entirely to blame. Her daughter was the one who got pregnant although I believe they were using protection. I would like to know what sort of talk Lynne had with J-L about "the birds and the bees"

Are you really sure they used protection?? You can't imagine HOW stupid lot of children and teens are nowadays when you ask them about how and when they can get pregnant and how they can prevent pregnancy or aids...You won't believe it, but lots of them know nothing at all. I think that their parents didn't tell them as they thought they would learn it at school and the teachers believed that they know everything from TV or whatever...

I personally feel that instead of trying to lay blame, people should be looking for solutions. Even the best parents sometimes have children who do the worst things. We are all in this together. Now that a baby is on the way, the baby needs to be thought of first. All the rest of it is media bullsh*t.

I'm not entirely confident that Britney and Jamie Lynn are a result of 'bad parenting'. Just a few years ago Britney was the poster girl for keeping your virginity until you're married and her parents were hailed as being fantastic influences. Amazing what a few years can do.

I honestly believe that what a person does at sixteen is pretty much a reflection on them and them only. Going back to the 'statutory rape' thing, I was thinking about this the other day and remembered that, back when I was 19, I had a girlfriend who was 16. I certainly don't believe that I should have been charged and tossed into jail for having a perfectly legal consenting relationship with that girl and neither should Jamie Lynn's boyfriend.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

From what I have heard, he has. He will not allow her to go on the road without him as her escort. Everything she has to do for her career must go through him first. Apparently their relationship is such that she loves having him along.

It's just like.. wow. She's just a child!
In some states (and countrys?) she isnt old enough to smoke or drink yet.
I just do not get, why some teenagers think that Sex is so cool,
or that sex is something they must do because their friends do it or whatever.
But all the same.. Sixteen?! .. she just lost the best times of her life.

If this Chad guy is the father, and the baby was concieved in Jamie Lynn's home state of Louisiana, then legally he can be charged with statutory rape.

I don't get statetory rape charges. What if it was consending and both parties were okay with it? Why charge the male for having sex when the female wanted it too? Why not charge both? Jamie Lynn is sixteen years old and knew what she did.

The statutory rape idea has been discussed quite a bit. The prevailing consensus is that under the circumstances of the minimal distance in their ages would make it a charge that really wouldn`t be prosecuted. All Jamie has to do is petition the courts for emancipation, which in this country 16 year olds are allowed to do.

And as I said before, this a very unfortunate situation. But I happen to believe that we as an extended family, or community as a whole have a responsibility to think of this child first and foremost. Not every child born to bad parents turns out to be societal misfits. I`m not ready to crucify someone who has made an egregious mistake for the sole purpose of making me or anyone else who has avoided a situation like feel better about themselves. The child is the most important thing to consider.

Absolutely, Betsy - and a statutory rape charge for the father would serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever. I'm sure, given who Jamie Lynn's sister is and the industry in which she works, that Jamie Lynn is a little more clued up and streetwise than your average 16 year old. She's still way too young to have a baby, in my opinion, and has a whole lot of life to live before she should have to deal with the responsibilities of motherhood, but it's a fact now and she needs support of everyone around her, not the local law enforcement coming after the father, who has engaged in consensual sex with a person who has reached sexual - if not, perhaps, emotional - maturity. I don't think that an actual crime has been committed here, even though, technically - according to the law, it may have been. As Mr. Bumble says in Oliver Twist, "Then, Sir, the law is an ass!".
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
