You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

I'm SO p*ssed off that SO many of you who I thought were my friends left me off your ballots this year that I'm protesting this whole clique-FEST by submitting an abbreviated form.

(Actually I'm pressed for time, waited till the last minute and I wanted Bridget to know that I feel her pain.)

Thanks to all who really did name me, it was both special and embarrassing.

To everyone here, a motto that I like is you can't soar with eagles if you hang around with turkeys. I feel each and everyone of you in some way help me to get better as a fellow human being. Whether its your intellect, kindness, sarcasm or jokes in some way I'm being bettered for knowing you -- all of you!

Who I miss posting: Chad, BEATNUT

Thread of the year:
Quote:

I have a message from Lissa's sister. I feel strange for presenting someone else's words, but she asked me to.

Quote:

(Megan)
Hello Internet people.  My name is Megan.  I’m Lissa’s sister.  I’ve been reading your wonderful messages about her.  My family and I thank you for your kind words and heartfelt condolences.  This has been a difficult time and it helps a great deal to know that she touched more lives than I could have imagined.  I know she liked to “bludgeon, immolate and horribly mutilate time” (her words) by talking to people online, but I never realized the extent of her friendships and influence in the cyber world.  Sometimes she mentioned her cyber friends and I just didn’t get it.  She had many friends in the real world and I assumed, clearly incorrectly, that people who spend time at these places were 40-year-old virgins living in their mothers’ basements.  She and all of you have proved me wrong.

It’s worth noting that she saw you all as genuine people.  I can remember maybe a year ago her discussing legal issues with our father when she thought Merry was being harassed by someone and more recently she was trying to find a way to pay the medical bills for someone named Betsy.  I assume Betsy is one of you.  I have a list of people I can let into her apartment when she was out of town and one of them was “Linda from Strawberry Fields”.  She told me that Linda travels a lot and if she needed a place to stay while Lissa was away she was welcome.  She expressed a desire to meet some of you, but was reluctant to visit “God forsaken places like Denver, Chicago and California”.  She discussed creating a charity trust to help out people during medical crises and financial difficulties.  I thought the whole idea was ridiculous.  Now I can at least get an idea of what she was thinking.

Thank you all for your kind messages and thoughts.  My sister would’ve appreciated it.

Newcomers: I was very happy when I heard Lissa was going to help out Adilah when her sister was in need. I knew the US of A was being represented well! Thanks for still hanging out with the rest of us. And I'm enjoying Mr Bellamy's stuff. To the other newcomers: last year I named all of you at the top of the thread and just said that I didn't know you well enough to fit you in a category. I actually wanted all of you to see your names on here because we're really not a clique. (aside from being Beatle fans.) A big hello to all of you and stop just reading. Start posting your two cents worth. 5 years of my postings (here and at PM.com) hasn't added up to two cents yet but they still engage me here anyway.

Boardie of the Year: (one name only) A brilliant writer, always fun to read. The guy who really gets "riled" by my posts. (No Adilah, it's not Bill.) The boy half of our hosts. And thank you for that! Lord Sweeney.

Man of the Year: Gen. David Petraeus. Please don't look at this as a political comment. He will be serving under a democrat next year and for a long time after that...maybe even as a president some day. The man is brilliant! What he is un-doing in Iraq is phenominal. I pray it continues.

Boardie of the Year: (one name only) A brilliant writer, always fun to read. The guy who really gets "riled" by my posts. (No Adilah, it's not Bill.) The boy half of our hosts. And thank you for that! Lord Sweeney.

You can get all that, but you can't get the feel of Beatlemania and the 60's without having been there.

You had to be in the US on February 9, 1964 and watching Ed Sullivan to understand what happened to us. There must have been some equal occasion in the UK regarding the Beatles. You had to live it to be able to feel it and truly comprehend it.

I conceed that you wouldn't know what Beatlemania was like first hand unless you were there, but I'd say that's completely different to having knowledge of The Beatles, their solo careers and all of the music that goes with it. Just because someone was watching Ed Sullivan in 1964 doesn't mean that their knowledge would be more encyclopaedic than some young buck with a great mind, a thirst for knowledge and an undying love for the Beatles. :) ;)

...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Linda, you just know that all us second (and some third) generation Beatles fans are completely in awe and envious of you first-hand fans for actually being there as the story unfolded. I think that must be worth more than knowing exactly who played drums on the second track of Press To Play! :D

Andy, even my own nephews tell me that. One in particular says he was born in the wrong decade since he likes the Beatles, Zepplin, Hendrix, Morrison, etc. The kid was definitely born in the wrong decade. He loves quizzing me and really loves it when I tell him I can't remember parts of the later 60's.

I do remember 1964-5-6 or so as I was in junior high. Things start getting fuzzy in high school and college.

And I have my original 45's and LPs, then 8 tracks, then cassettes and now CDs and DVDs. What's next that I will have to buy the entire catalog again?

I'm perfectly happy to have missed Beatlemania. The hysteria for hysteria's sake would have turned me off the music and it would only have been later that I would have been forced to grudgingly admit that they were rather brilliant.
That was my experience with U2. I couldn't stand the hype around them in the 80s and I quite enjoyed hating them until Achtung Baby came out and I could no longer keep up the pretense that they were crap.

I'm fortunate that I got to discover the Beatles' music first and not the hype. Hoards of screaming teenagers is something I can take or leave.
Put a puppet on it.

a week ago i ws p*ssed not only by the booze but by other circumstances not least medicene (sp) an that three days before a young girl died, hey 28 or 27 is young, especially as i found out my mums cousins in liverpool has had it for ten tyears. basically a drug oir four that we all have gives us an immune defiecincy or whatever. well i woke up with a nightmare after an half an hour and p*ssed most of i ame here and was not upset or anything. I went into macca and a t*at who i have avoided for over five years with his undsubstated or etc, whatever, anyway cliams he is irish and some of you know that it has been claimed that i know fook all about it, only a couple have acknowledged in it the ulster way, thank spidge. But sorry i blew, i admit here and now i will kick the living daylights out of the idiot that is naill the brown diapers.

WHY. Hell why do you need to ask. Not six yearws ago i went to a crimbo do of a former work place and a bf of a girl went oh ireland and started etc ( err the idiot was from somwwhere south) i warned him as to his intelligence, he ignored me , i warned him asto winchester being a military town he ignorde me, basically i told the idiot.

I am a man I am a single man therefore i am an idiot. After the age of 16 i really dont care, yes i am scared but i can go beyond it. What i do hate is dubliners coming over here acting hard, sorry that was the ringo concert, i only askeded as i went in the door ohh ribs are they good, a dublin accent followed by obscenties thougght his mate was nice, is not a good signal to me. So when i tolds him to sit down and behave he did an attempt of whatever. he was beaten by one punch.

I am a shite i am a man I am honest.

A girl died not ten days ago and for a few hours i made her laffed, or my accent did and my swearing.

I aint grouchy and i am offended by it, i may disagree with your religion, your polituics anything that i can see is deeply felt, (e coz of my backgrund i will hold a retrospect) and go sod it. Because that is all it is how we treat poeple and how they treat us.

I was not even 6 years old when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. I remember it being on TV. Not the impact. I remember my sister listening to their albums...but I surely didn't appreciate the music the way I do now. I consider myself a 2nd generation Beatle fan...I fell in love with the Beatles after watching "Hard Days Night" on TV one day. I was 10 years old. Almost 40 years later, I still love the Beatles...and my sister...the 'first' generation Beatle fan...gave me her old albums and moved on to something else.

I meant love for the Beatles but it's ok. It's almost 9 am, I can discuss anything.

My mother is a first beatles generation fan ^_^
I got "introduced" at a very young age to George (5) and John (BABY!)
(All while my dad was trying to introduce me to Folk Music <IE: Dylan, Mamas & The Papas, etc. and The Beach Boys. I must add the Folk music bit worked, he's still working on the beach boys though.. pet sounds is awesome however.. YOU DID NOT HEAR ME SAY THAT!! )
And I found my way towards Paul at .. lmao.. 14 .. (puberty.. no wonder, lmao!)
I still love John though, an George's music will always hold dear in my heart.
It was my mom who took me to the three Paul concerts.
And it was my mom who took me to Beatlefest and had a few drinks with me and my friends. (my aunt sheila too!)
It was my mother who cried when she saw just how happy I was at Beatlefest,
and how proud she was that I didn't knock over the nearest Paul tribute band player..or John for the matter.
Really mom I am quite picky.
And it was my mother who held me every time we visted Strawberry Fields in NYC, because I was a wreck.
It was my mother who also held me at The rock n roll hall of fame when seeing the bag of clothes he wore the night of his death and the blood stained glasses that he wore that night.
And it was my mother who held my hair back in the toilets afterwards.

Call it crazy.. if you wish, but I call it lucky.

I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have a mom like her.
She is truely the best and I tell her EACH and EVERY day. (seriously!)

And what has she got in store for me when I reach my goal weight?
Yes.. I know this seems rather extravagant.. but Liverpool.

So, with all due respect.. First Generation Beatle Fans.. Yes you got to see them live, and you were there when they were. But to us Second Gen. Fans, we get the the stories, the memorbillia, The Threetles... the Twotles.. an we get the love from it all because after all..

All you need is love.

I agree about the knowledge, Andy, but I can't explain to any body but people who saw it what it was like to watch Ed Sullivan and fall in love with Paul McCartney.  :D

You don't have to splain in to me Lucy - I totally understand, as you know and I'm damn proud of my original Beatlemania - the longest lasting bug I've ever had!

I was right there with you on that magical night in 1964. I get what you're saying.
One look at Paul and I was a goner........

God-what a handsome guy he was, in his dark suit, white shirt and I loved the ID bracelet he wore. :hyper:
