Thanks Dani for your votes. I'm glad we met in London, who knows next time I may be going to see Franz Ferdinand when they next tour (they better soon, their fan club magazine which came yesterday had some good stuff in it) in Scotland! I hope my budget allows me because I love those boys! Maybe even Muse in Scotland, but Devon might be better. :D

Section One - General

Kindest, most respectful member:
Doris who always has "love doris" in her signature.

Funniest or wittiest boardie:
The host of this board, Andy. When he has the time he can be amusing.

Most intelligent board member:
She may not spell well but through her posts you can see she is a very wise and intelligent woman. She has lived a life many of us couldn't even fathom and yet she survived. Take what she says to heart because that is where she speaks from. We are all blessed to know her.

Most fascinating member:
Dantheweatherman, really I can't believe he actually listens to Bill O'Reilly. Scary actually.

Most politically astute boardie:
Who else but Bill. His knowledge and passion inspire me to learn more.

Most entertaining board member:
Olen always cracks me up. He has a way to make us stop and think with humor and insight. If he is like this here one can only imagine what he is like in class. I bet he is an excellent teacher.

Most honest boardie:
Lauren you can be mean and nasty sometimes but you always speak the truth. Never curb your tongue, it is what makes you who you are.

Most 'cosmically conscious' boardmember:
Fiona you may be young but your passion for doing whats right shows you for the compassionate and caring person that you are. I wish there were more people like you in the world. Then again maybe not, you might outlaw eating meat.

Most mysterious boardie:
Merry, post a picture for christ sakes! Seriously we all love and care for you, thats is why we all want to see what you look like. Its hard to grasp feelings for a person when in your mind she is a picture of John Lennon. Young or old, ugly or not you have already shown us the warm and beautiful person inside, just want to see the icing on the cake.

Member you'd most like to have a beer with:
I have had the pleasure of having a beer with some of you already and I am looking forward to Liverpool 2008 when I can share a drink or two with many more of you. So my answer here is for some who wont be there, Beatle Barb, Dotty, Cathy, and Maryanne - next time I am out your way the first round is on me.

Best thread starter:
All of us who have ever started a thread should be thanked. While some are comical, others are thought provoking yet all are welcome. Sure we may all skip some that we are not interested in but that doesnt take away from the participation that goes with starting one.

Best thread:
The Lissa thread. Was interesting to see the love and grief shine through in that thread while posters were being snide and rude in other threads. Sad it will take a death to make people say nice things about some other posters here.

Board member with the best avatar(s):
Jaynes avatar never changes and always has her beautiful face smiling at you.

Boardie with the best signature(s):
Bridgets signature has the one and only Grace Kelly in it, classy all the way. I think after this I shall watch Rear Window again.

Most attractive/sexiest boardmember:
I haven't a clue but members who would like to be nominated by me should send a videoclip to tonyhemp@yahoo.com and I shall make my selection. Please be naked and talking sexy in the clip if you are alone, if you include a partner actions speak louder than words. And guys, no offense but if you send me anything I shall be forced to post them here so the ladies can vote on them. I shall honor their decision.

Person you wish would post more (only current members, please):
Invisible Jones, Pedro, and Beatnut come on and post with us again.

Best "newcomer" (Registered in 2007):
Adilah I am greatfull you have joined us here. Your view on the world is insightful and thought provoking. You were so needed here.

Most improved boardie:
Aimee you have grown alot since joining this board and it shows.

Section Two - Music/The Arts

Best Beatles & Beatles-related Newsgetter:
Fea of course

Best Beatles/Paul knowledge:
Olen

Greatest overall musical knowledge:
those who choose not to listen to todays Top 40, you know who you are.

Biggest Paul Fanatic:
the people who buy the new material, those are the fans. Not those who haven't bought anything since BOTR.

Biggest John Fanatic:
Those here who worship the man the way he was not the revisionist bs that his legend has become.

Biggest George and Ringo Fanatic:
combined them for the answer is the same. Those of us who can name the 4th track on either of theirs third solo album without looking it up. Now thats a fan

Best music reviewer:
Samwise seems to write good reviews so I will vote for him.

Most talented poet:
Would have to read the poetry section and thats not going to happen.

Most talented storyteller:
Andy and his wacky articles from the Beard.

Most talented artist/animator:
Anna is the professional here but doesn't really post her stuff. Dorothy is the amateur and shares with us all the time. So Dorothy wins!

Most talented musician on the board:
Lissa is the only one I ever really listened to so the award goes to her. Accepting the award on her behalf are two penguins who feel the same loss as all of us still do.

Section Three - The Best Of The Year
(One nomination per category only, please!)

Song Of The Year:
Hey There Delilah by the Plain White Tees

Musical Artist/Group Of The Year:
Paul McCartney

Album Of The Year:
Memory Almost Full

Movie Of The Year:
Reign Over Me (if you haven't seen it go rent it now)

Book Of The Year:
The Holy Bible (still funny after all these years)

Man Of The Year:
Barack Obama, the next President of the United States

Woman Of The Year:
I give a lot of credit to Laura Bush, you know she must look at George all the time saying why, why, oh f*cking why did I marry this pathetic man. You know she must be popping prescriptions to get through her day.

Weirdo Of The Year:
Our own little bandwagon jumper BlueMolly.

Section Four - Special Awards

The 'Mom' of the board:
Dorothy

The 'Pop' of the board:
Andy

Best/Most Helpful Moderator:
Andy again (it's almost like he created these categories so he could win)

Best overall contribution to all sections of the board:
I have to abstain as I dont read all the sections of the board.

The 'Oscar' for grouchiness:
Clare and Lauren by a nose. Peter could have won but the girls beat him down.

The Mailman award for dedication to posting:
Posting for posting sake? Gotta be Dotty

The mozart8mytoe 'penguin' award for Quality over Quantity:
Beatnut

...and finally;

The 2007 Strawberry Fields Boardie of the Year (one name only, please):
Bluemeanie of course. If it weren't for her I wouldn't be here.

Tony thanks for voting me. I don't deserv this award anymore. I just come to say to you Happy Christmas and a very good 2008.

Hello Fea,

Merry Christmas to you, too. Your input to the site was largely positive and was appreciated by dozens of people who post here. I'm sure you'll see plenty of 'newsgetter' nominations this year as a result and, as far as I'm concerned, as you were a member here for the vast majority of the year, you're perfectly eligible to be recognised for what you did here.

I hope your youngest daughter has a wonderful Christmas in Cuba and I hope you do too - The Red Cross do fantastic work and I'm sure they will appreciate your donation. As far as cheese is concerned, as much as I love an English Cheddar and a French Brie, there is never a time when a Dutch Gouda is out of our fridge.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you & your family,

Andy. :)
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

The Second Annual Strawberry Fields Awards - 2007

Let me preface my nominations with what ought to be obvious. These selections are in no way intended to imply that these are my favourite people from the "in" crowd. We're all freaks and misfits in our own way. The following people have flown their freak flag particularly high within my eyeshot this year. Of course it's subjective and I apologise in advance to all those freaks who I was too freaky to notice.

Section One - General

Kindest, most respectful member:

Most entertaining board member:
JeffLynne'sAndy, Dottythy, Jaynemeanie

Most honest boardie:
I'm not sure what this means. I don't fact-check everything that people say so I don't really know. Or perhaps does this mean, "least likely to censor themselves regardless of possible fallout"? I'm not sure that's necessarily a good thing so I'll go with the former, take a punt and say

I am feeling more and more as if these awards things are like a peeing contest. I don't like them. I genuinely don't care about the results. I, and others who have posted publically and told me in private, feel pushed out by the overt cliqueness. I know there are groups of friends. I regard a clique as being bitchy and elitist and nasty and it makes some of us feel uncomfortable. It's been happening for a while now and there are a lot of disparities in the way members treat eachother and also how the moderators act towards people. I don't like it very much around here right now. One highlight, or rather low point, was when everyone jumped on Bridget the other week because of her typos. Dorothy, I like you a lot and respect you a lot for all the progress you've made, but for example, when Dorothy makes, or in the past used to often make, typos, people let it lie because she's so loved and popular, and maybe as she is here a lot. I feel that because Bridget is not here a lot or posting a lot and therefore not as prominent, she was treated appallingly. Anyway, I may or may not amend my choices in this thread but it all seems really hollow and really shallow. :hmm:

This quote is VERY TRUE!!

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it;
and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.
Marcus Aurelius

I know it's easy to QUOTE and sometimes hard to DO....but think about it...it's completely up to YOU and no one else what bothers you...if you feel like an outcast then you WILL be an outcast... in your head at least...even if NO one else is thinking that at all!!

BE HAPPY...and think POSITIVE!!! :D ;)
There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened. -- Douglas Adams

I figured her out on first read. You asked to be banned, so why did you register under a different name? It makes no sense to me.

My award nominations will go up this weekend. I hope that is before the deadline. If not, oh well.

The reason I think Bridget got picked on for her spelling is because she is in law school and should know better. She should know how to spell if she is in law school. To get into law school, she had to graduate college. It had nothing to do with being popular or unpopular.

I have a very good reason not to use my old user name her. It is for me very simple: a lot of people did abused my name on the "I Leave This Board" thread. And I don't want to be abused or attacked like was happend in that thread.
I don't want to be attacked in anyway.

I want to thank all the people who did have vote on me for best news getter.

Feact, if you don't care about these awards, why have you been reading them, commenting ONLY on them, and coming back here with a new username for this reason? At least be honest. <_<

By the way, I never graduate from high School. but, any case no one should be put down or tease for their mistakes.

ouy.. long quotes

I agree with Lauren on her post about Cliques and such.

And ok so Bridget is/was in law school, is she not entitled to make a typo here and there?
I'm pretty sure there are alot of people who know how to spell really well in RL and make alot of typo's on forums and such.
So unless your all anal about how a word is spelt, then well, i'm sorry that's your problem not her's.
Besides the fact, who cares if something is spelt wrong,
i'm pretty sure you have the intelligence to figure out what the person is trying to say anyways. -_-

Mr Bellamy

I'm still baffled at the accusation of cliques etc..

Come on people, it's Christmas time - this competition is a bit of fun. If you don't want to participate, then don't read it - it is that easy.

FRIENDS form in any group - the ones who talk most, naturally have an affinity with each other - no one is deliberately leaving anyone out. SO long as we have our own self confidence, what does it matter WHO wins an award on the board - it's just a laugh surely...

As for spelling, and picking on people, well no one should be picked on. Just because someone graduated from law school doesn't make them any different to anyone else. We can do better than "picking" people. Life is too short....really...we're all human beings who need a hug.

PEACE, LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING,

And a Merry Xmas to all... ;)

:hmm:

actually, I have been put down or made fun of my typo's . and, I am not well liked.

This quote is VERY TRUE!!

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it;
and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.

Blonde, you said very well exactly what I've been thinking for some time. Thank -you.

It is fun, if only people would stop talking about cliques. That makes me not want to vote. I will vote for people I know and am friendly with. Does that make us a clique? I don't think so.

We had this argument last year and it was decided to have the awards. I want the awards to be here next year also.

Linda, you are right. People will obviously vote for people they know. That's not cliquey at all! We vote for people we know who we think fits that category. I'm not going to vote for Joe Bloggs who's post i've only read once. I'm going to vote for people who i'm familiar with - isn't everyone?

Am I in a clique? I don't really know.

According to the most common definition we all are in this clique. If I am not mistaken our common purpose for being here is the fact that we all love the Beatles.

Noun 1. clique - an exclusive circle of people with a common purpose

Ok, add me to the list, as well (I suppose that makes me an ass kissing clique- monger). I can't tell you how many times I typed a response into that little window...and ended up deleting it.
Honestly, I don't understand what all the fuss is about.

You know, I'm really p*ssed off at all of the nay-sayers on this thread. This is the fourth year of the 'awards' and we have the same thing year after year.

I find myself pulling the same phrases out of my hat time and time again, that it's all about recognising the people who have made a difference to your life, who you want to let know that you appreciate and who you, in one way or another, love.

If people can't appreciate that and start talking about cliques when, quite honestly, this is one of the least cliquey places I have ever frequented, then you can't see what's in front of your own face.

YOU have the chance to make the difference to somebody else's life by giving them a vote. Yes, they may not necessarily win that category, but these 'awards' aren't about winning, they're about thinking of what everyone else contributes to this forum and letting them know that they're appreciated by you.

Who gives a flying f*ck about what everyone else is nominating? Write your own form out and let the people you care about know that they're appreciated. That's the spirit of these things, not anything else. That's why they were created, not so we can have some kind of bizarre popularity contest like we're in some shallow high school from hell.

All these negative nellies, just get over yourselves. If you don't like it, don't open this thread again. I mean it. Don't come here just to moan - if you don't agree with this, what the hell are you doing reading these words? We had this debate last year and it was decided that the majority of the members wanted it, so - for heaven's sake - respect democracy and allow this event to be a positive thing instead of a massive whinge fest. Why spoil something that is, essentially, a chance to tell people how much you appreciate them?

This isn't shallow, cliquey or anything else - this is just plain nice. Merry Christmas. ;)
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Nah, f*ck it! Who needs that kind of guilt trip. Like I said earlier, we're ALL freaks and misfits around here and anyone who has got it into their head that I'm suddenly some kind of director of the "in crowd," purposefully keeping the more shy members down knows f*ck all about me.

And now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.

Section One - General

Kindest, most respectful member: Reverend Dave (For being kind & respectful when we needed it the most). Jacaranda (For the kindness you've shown me & many others). Queenbee & Rose (You both seem like very nice people).
Funniest or wittiest boardie: Lissa (For whom the phrase razor-sharp wit was invented). FamousGroupie & BeatleBarb (You've both made me laugh more than I expected).
Most intelligent board member: Lissa (You remind me of my grandmother who also had a hard life but came away stronger). Jacaranda & Samwise (I get the impression you're both smarter than we think).
Most fascinating member: Lissa (There really should be a movie about her life).
Most politically astute boardie: Lissa (She understood "the Middle East" better than most Americans. She seemed to have an innate understanding of the motives behind all political rhetoric). Iluvpeter (Such forceful views cannot be ignored. Even when they're wrong).
Most entertaining board member: Bill, Flickering Ember, Dantheweatherman (All for different reasons).
Most honest boardie: Reverend Dave (If you can't believe a man of God, all is lost).
Most 'cosmically conscious' boardmember: beatlechick (Keep up the fight). Reverend Dave (For going to Darfur. What could be more cosmically conscious?). Maccabyrd (For reminding us of Jane Goodall, the most cosmically conscious person alive today).
Most mysterious boardie: Bill (What does anyone really know about him?)
Member you'd most like to have a beer with: I don't drink alcohol, but I've had the honour of meeting Lissa, who drank more than enough for both of us and yet remained fully conscious.
Best thread starter: JeffLynnesBeard, maccascruff, Jacaranda (If for no other reason than for the following).
Best thread: The Lissa Tribute & Linda's friend with cancer (I've never seen such unselfish compassion from the Internet toward people most don't even know). The one updating us on Betsy's health.
Board member with the best avatar(s): maccascruff (Simply wonderful). Kink (Beautiful).
Boardie with the best signature(s): Queenbee (Wonderful). Rose (The penguin is an excellent touch). FamousGroupie (Your daughter is beautiful). Blondie10 ("The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it which the merely improbable lacks").
Most attractive/sexiest boardmember: Lissa was beautiful inside & outside. Queenbee, Rose & maccascruff (I don't know what any of you look like but you have beautiful souls).
Person you wish would post more (only current members, please): Merry (You seem to be far less active than in the past). Tonyhemp (There simply aren't enough flaming liberals around here). Fab4fan (For reasons other than your ability to get Bill riled).
Best "newcomer" (Registered in 2007): Mr. Bellamy, Blondie10, MannyDavvi (Because you're the only names that come to mind).
Most improved boardie: Dorothy & Kit Kat (You both seem more interested in others than when I first joined).

Section Two - Music/The Arts

Best Beatles & Beatles-related Newsgetter: Feact (Despite the graceless exit).
Best Beatles/Paul knowledge: Anyone who knows what the Beatles were doing on any given day between 1962-1970 deserves this award. They also need some form of counseling. Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
Greatest overall musical knowledge: Lissa (You taught me more than my teachers ever could).
Biggest Paul Fanatic: Not Phil Collins. maccascruff, maccawings, retrollama (Because of all those concerts).
Biggest John Fanatic: Jacaranda, Theonlyfab4fan (Because they say so).
Biggest George Fanatic: Anyone who actually has his albums (There seems to be so few of us).
Biggest Wilbury Fanatic: Aimee Wilbury, of course (I think you have to own George's albums to be a George fanatic).
Biggest Ringo Fanatic: Anyone who wants to be.
Biggest Fanatic: That Michael Savage person. I fear his mother may not have held him as a baby.
Best music reviewer: Samwise (Your reviews remind me of first-person narration from science fiction novels).
Most talented poet: Doris Mendlovitz (For the many wonderful poems). Samwise (Lyrics are poetry too). Lissa (For the haiku about trees, and also because I don't know if anyone else is a poet and I get to name 3 people).
Most talented storyteller: Lissa (Who made us laugh & cry at the same time).
Most talented artist/animator: I can't recall seeing anyone's art.
Most talented musician on the board: Lissa (Compare her Mozart Sonata 11 with Glenn Gould's, whom she admired. Compare her Scarlatti sonata with Martha Argerich's, her mentor. She was brilliant).

Ok, i've had some thought about what i've said recently.
And I know i'm not the only one who mentioned cliques and whatever.
But, I just want to apologize for the things that I (myself) said.

I've had some issues in the past and most recent of the whole clique issue.
I'm not about to go an explain because quite frankly it's nobody business.
But all the same, I shouldnt have tooken my frusteration out here.

Call this a guild trip, a mood swing, or looking for attention, I don't f*cking care.
People make mistakes and i've said mine. Simple as that.

Andy, I know you were not pointing fingers at people in your post.
But your post actually did make me stop and think and felt rather bad for the things I said.
So just wanted to apologize to you mostly since you are the one to put the awards on.

Ok.. corny moment over.

Andy, I know you were not pointing fingers at people in your post.
But your post actually did make me stop and think and felt rather bad for the things I said.
So just wanted to apologize to you mostly since you are the one to put the awards on.

Ok.. corny moment over.

(((( Liz)))) that was very brave of you to say.
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

Merry Christmas. ;)

And we wish for World Peace? We can't even have a fun year end award without complainers. I think we should not even acknowledge their complaint. Maybe they'll go to the VENT thread and complain there. Leave us alone in our happy awards thread. If you don't eat something you dont like, then don't read something that doesn't make you happy.

That was your Mother speaking.......now go to your room and do something to make yourself happy, nay-sayers!

PEACE and love to my friends, Judy

I still don't understand this clique stuff. Obviously I'm not in it!

One of the main reasons I like this site is because of all the wonderfully friendly people. I've never once felt excluded from any conversation in any topic. And if I ever find a topic that I don't want to get involved with, I stay out of it. As for cliques...we all belong to one...The SF Clique!

Peace & Love,

Olen

BTW, I'm almost ready to post my votes. It's tough because there are so many deserving people here.
