My Mom is getting me a new iPod. I had an iPod Nano, but I accidentally broke it when it smashed to the ground. I don't want a Nano again, because it was tiny. I'm looking at either an iPod Shuffle or an iPod Classic. I'm not sure how much my Mom is willing to pay. She is going to have me look at the ones I like when I come down to her place on Wednesday. I just wanted to get some advice on what you guys recommend. |

Anything that's not made by Apple, has at least 8Gb of storage and preferably receives digital radio would be a great buy. |

You'll want the biggest iPod you can get. I have a 20 gig one, and I constantly have to move songs to and from it to make room for new stuff. I do have an older model (no video) that's over two years old, but it's never give me any problems. (*touches wood*) |

I would recommend the Insignia Sport MP3 Player. It does basically everything an ipod can do, but at a lot less the price. It's getting alot of positive reviews. One big positive I see is that you can upload any MP3 song from your computer onto it, where the ipod won't. Product Features: CLICK HERE |

Well seeing as you don't want small, stay away from the shuffle. You can't even choose the song you want to listen to anyway. I have a somewhat archaic 20 GB ipod classic, and it has served me well for the past two and a half years. It depends on how much music you have, but 20 GB is a hell of a lot of space, and I haven't come close to filling it up yet. |

I have an iPod, but haven't tried putting any music on it yet. My boyfriend told me that it is much more complicated than the iRiver he had me buy. Problem with the iRiver is that it doesn't hold much. |

I've had my iPod for well over two years, and I use it every single day. It's very easy to use, as long as you have iTunes installed on your computer. (Us Mac users don't have to worry about that, though )Mine came with a charger. The only "extra" that I had to buy was a transmitter that allows me to play music through the car (or any other) radio. I listen to it that way most of the time, instead of using ear "buds." |

The thing is, I'm visually impared and I'm not sure how clear the digital display will be, that's one reason why I'm not getting the Nano. I wish the dispays were a bit bigger or the print on the display was bigger. Also, I know the Video iPod is $240, which I'm not sure my Mom wants to spend that much on, but I'm not sure. I'll check things out when I go to her place on Wednesday. |

I so know what you mean. I have an older (going on its' 3rd Christmas) 30 gb (before Apple had one and much cheaper) Creative Labs mp3 player. It is a bit bigger than an Ipod as it actually has a hard drive and I can do whatever the hell I want with my battery. It has taken a lot of abuse but like the old Timex watches, it takes a licking but keeps on playing. I have yet to fill it up. Unfortunately I got it about a year before they started putting in radio reception. I will not buy Apple either, Andy. You are paying for the name and not the product. So far, in the States, the Iphone is not doing as well as had been expected and there have been some problems with them. They are nice looking though. I would rather have great quality at a inexpensive price than to be able to say I have an Apple anything. Creative Labs mp3 players runs about $50-100 less than the ipod counterpart. |

I'm sorry, but I'm getting an iPod. I know people dislike Apple, but I've heard from a lot of people here who have them like them and I'm going to listen to them. I'm sorry, but that's what I want. I don't want any other .mp3 player than an iPod. |

That's your choice. I do know some people who live and breath by their ipod but needless to say they have gone through a couple in the past 3 years while I still have my one. Ipods do sound good but there are other just as good, if not better, alternatives. My display is bigger and pretty clear for an old mp3 player. Mp3 player is all an ipod is anyway. |

iPods are far and away the easiest mp3 player to use. I got one for my mother last year and despite her being a bit of a technophobe, I've only ever had to show her how to use it once. There are cheaper options out there for those who are more computer minded to begin with but nothing that I've ever seen can touch iPods for ease of use. Horses for courses and all that. |

I have an Ipod Nano, and I love it. Though you mentioned that you didn't like the small screen so I guess Ipod Classic is the way to go - anything bigger than that gets a little pricey. |

That's basically the problem I have with iPod - plus all of the protectionism they have engaged in. It should interface with any program to upload MP3s to it, not just iTunes. There were also problems with batteries on iPods not so long ago where, if your battery stopped working, it was essentially cheaper to get a new iPod rather than pay someone to take it apart & replace the battery - you couldn't do it yourself. :hmm: I don't have a problem with Apple as a company, per se, and believe there needs to be at least one big competitor to the Microsoft driven PC, but the iPod isn't necessarily the best brand of MP3 player on the market just because it's the most popular. |
| ...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. | |

Andy, you can use other places to put your .mp3s with an iPod. Winamp has a plugin where you can import your .mp3s to your iPod. |

That's winamp, the same goes for windows media, and possibly Rhapsody. What we are talking about it itunes. Itunes you can download directly to an ipod but with an mp3 player you have to download it to the computer than on to the player. Used to be the parts for an ipod, cables at least and some boomboxes, were for both ipod and mp3 players. Now you can find plenty for ipods but very little for mp3 players and they both run on the same principle. Why should there be any difference? You can play whatever audio cd you want into any system yet you can't do the same without going through any hassles with an ipod to an mp3 player. An ipod IS an mp3 player, same identical results. |
