Lately I have noticed a lot of young mothers when I ride the bus. Anyone else notice that it seems as though a lot of teens are having kids.\
Kids are now raising kids. That has to be a hand full

I agree. I think if anything, mothers are getting older as women delay starting families for financial or career reasons. There was a time when any woman over 25 who hadn't married and had kids was seen as somehow defective. I'm very glad to move away from those times.

I think mothers are a bit like policemen - they keep looking younger. ;)

Me neither. Sometimes I feel like I'm 82, not 32.

But when you have your surgery, Clare, you'll be rejuvenated and probably feel really great! By the way, is that still on the calendar for you? A lady who frequents my library just had it and she looks terrific and says she feels great.

Sign of aging is when one fancies the mother rather than the daughter. Now some grandmothers look young to me.
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

Yep, Barb, it's still happening. I've got a pre-admission clinic on December 19, and hopefully my surgery will be in January or February. :)

I think this is true. When I rode the bus to work, I was aghast. However, when I was in high school (in the dark ages), teenagers went off and hid when they were pregnant. You know. Long visits with out of town relatives.

They are getting younger and older. There is a widening in theory meaning that less are having kids in their 20's coz they are looking to their career or whatever meaning there are the older mums now and then also there are still young mums which there have always been, in fact its in the past when there have been younger mums because they got married quiker in the past. Now tht isnt the case
I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...

I have to agree with what Bill is saying. There will always be young mothers but the age where women are getting pregnant is getting older.

When I was growing up, we had a special school for those girls who got gregnant. It was called, Crossroads. They went to school and took the regular classes, but they also had special parenting classes and couseling for the mothers.

In my senior year of high school, my school started something for teenaged mothers. They still went to the regular high school but it was as a continuing school where they're educational needs were met and so was their emotional/physical needs to help transition them to motherhood. Their school class hours were reduced but only to give them parenting classes/counselling and allow for doctor appointments. That was some 30 years ago and I don't know if the program still exists. Considering the budget for the LA City School system and the fact that some classes have had to be eliminated, I doubt that the program exists.

They have that kind of program at one school here. It's for the entire school district and they have a waiting list all the time.

They are getting older and older here. Not enough computer games and rock & roll I think.

My advice from my Grandmother was that the only problem with being a grandma is sleeping with grandpa.
Well after a certain age you are more mature.
It seems that there are also a lot of very young mothers out there now adays.
love doris.

In this part of the world they're getting older. The government here even pays couples to have children (about $600 per child). I guess they think the birth rate isn't high enough. I think it's pretty high as is. The reason mothers are getting older is that women today have far more options than they did a generation ago.
With great power comes great responsibility. With great age....

You are right Reverend Dave, so many mothers these days are "delaying" motherhood in favour of a career

How does that work Dave? What happened to the single child policy? Or is it a question of difference provinces?

By the way, welcome back! ^_^

They have a scheme like that here too, Dave. The treasurer has called for families to have three children - one for Mum, one for Dad and one for the country.

The baby bonus here is $3000 per child, and unfortunately some girls have taken advantage of that, having babies just to get their hands on the money.

I can't speak for other parts of the world, but in California, it's not so much that mothers are getting younger as much as it is seeing mothers who are looking younger.

When the economy was bad the government discouraged pregnancy. Since it's gotten better they want more children. I think the theory is that more babies born to more middle and upper class families create even more middle and upper class families.

The amount paid depends on where the parents live. Sometimes one city can be significantly higher than a city right next door and wealthier neighborhoods pay more than poor ones. Some parents will go to a neighboring city to have their child only to find they get the smaller amount.

By the way, thank you.

Nat ~ Wait till your in your mid to late 30's, your going to love that age. You'll be saying if I knew what I know now when I was 21, life would have been different. I would never want to be 22 again. I loved my late 30's.

PEACE and love to my friends, Judy
