Buffalo Police say in the past week, six women have been robbed and some of them were forced to perform sexual acts while walking in the Gates Circle area
Police say the attacks began September 20th. All the victims were walking near Chapin Parkway and Potomac Avenue between 8:00 p.m. and midnight. Police say indications are that one suspect is involved.

Police say the most recent attack linked to the suspect took place Wednesday night on a street known as Holloway Alley. Security pictures provided to Buffalo Police by Canisius College show a man police describe as a "person of interest" in the case.

Victims have described their attacker as a black man, wearing a green or grey sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Buffalo Police Sex Offense Squad at 851-4494.

Today, my supervisor e-mailed everyone who works in this area and she told us she would make arrangements to get a ride if we needed it. I did because I live right at Gates Circle. This is making me very scared right now.

I admit...I'd be nervous too... :o :o

Don't walk anywhere alone...especially at night....like Audrey said...be very aware of your surroundings... when you pull into your driveway at home...look around and then jump out of the car and run fast as hell to your door and bolt it behind you.....if anyone is home call them right before you pull up and they can open the door for you....carry teargas.....it does work if you get it into the criminals eyes but you have to have good aim... and gives you time to escape

BE CAREFUL!!! :o

One of my coworkers drove me home tonight and she told me that she'll drive me home when I work nights. Tomorrow, I work during the day, so it should be fairly safe.
I think the guy who was attacking women gave himself up, but I'm not sure. I'll have to catch the news later on. I hope so.

The local news stations have been filming by my apartment building. It's really creepy that some jerk is targetting women. You think it's safe in the area when you find out it's not. I mean, my neighborhood is in the "rich" part of town with a lot of really nice houses and mansions. It's an area that you could let your kids outside without worrying too much. It takes some creep to ruin it for people. I'm so happy to live in a secure apartment building. We have electronic locks for the front and side enterences and you have to slide an electronic key in a little area to get in.

In Paul's Arms!
I used to live in an area that had the Hillside Strangler, here is a synopsis of what they were accused of doing
Quote:

The first victim of the Hillside Stranglers was a Hollywood prostitute, Yolanda Washington whose body was found near the Forest Lawn Cemetary on October 18. The corpse was cleaned and faint marks could be seen around the neck, wrists, and ankles where a rope had been. She had also been viciously raped.

On Halloween morning, October 31, 1977, police were called to an Eagle Rock neighborhood, north of downtown Los Angeles. The body of a teenage girl, wrapped in a tarp, had been found on a curb in a small residential area. Bruises on her neck indicated strangulation. The body had been dumped, meaning she was killed somewhere else. The girl was about 16-years-old, weighing only 90 pounds (41 kg), and had medium length, reddish-brown hair. She went unidentified at first, but after hours of unsatisfying tips, the girl was finally identified as Judith Miller, a 16-year-old destitute.

On the morning of November 6, 1977, the nude body of another woman was found near the Glendale Country Club. Similar to Judy Miller, the killer strangled her with ligature and dumped her body. The woman was identified as 21-year-old Lissa Kastin, a local waitress. Lissa was last seen leaving work on the night before she was discovered.

On November 13, 1977, two school girls, Dolores Cepeda, 12, and Sonja Johnson, 14, boarded a bus and headed home. They had last been seen getting off a bus and going over to a large two-tone sedan car. Inside the car reportedly were two men. On November 20, a young boy cleaning up a trash-strewn hillside near Dodger Stadium found 2 bodies. Both girls had been strangled and raped. They were soon identified as Cepeda and Johnson.

Later that same day, November 20, 1977, hikers found the nude, dead, sexually assaulted body of 20-year-old Kristina Weckler on a hillside near Glendale, California. Weckler was known as a stable, quiet, and conscientious student who kept to herself. Unlike previous victims, this time there were signs of torture on the body as indicated by oozing injection marks.

Just before Thanksgiving, on November 23, the badly decomposed body of 28-year-old Jane King was found off an exit ramp near the Golden State freeway. She had gone missing 2 weeks earlier, around November 9. With the continued discovery of bodies in hilly areas, a 30-police-officer task force was formed to catch the predator who was deemed the "Hillside Strangler."

The killers took the weekend off for the holiday, but on November 29, another discovery announced their return. On a hillside outside of Mount Washington, police found the body of 18-year-old Lauren Wagner. She, too, was strangled with a ligature. There were also burn marks on her hands indicating she was also tortured. She was victim number 8. The law enforcement task force—Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Glendale Police Department—began to assume that more than one person was responsible for the murders, even though the media continued to use the singular, Hillside Strangler.

With the arrival of December, the killings stopped for 2 weeks, but then a 9th murder took place. On December 13, 1977, police found the body of 17-year-old call girl Kimberly Martin strewn on a hillside, her body pointing toward city hall. Following this discovery, there were no more victims found in December or in January.

The final killing in Los Angeles was discovered on February 16, 1978, when a helicopter spotted an orange Datsun abandoned off a cliff in the Angeles Crest area. Police responded to the scene and found the body of the car's owner, 20-year-old Cindy Hudspeth, inside the trunk.

The Stranglers once stopped Catherine Lorre with the intent of abducting her, but after learning that she was the daughter of famed character actor Peter Lorre, they let her go. It was only after the two men were arrested that Lorre realized whom she had met.

Hillside Strangler

These two had the whole City on edge. One of the victims was abducted just a few blocks from where I live. Friends of mine live in Eagle Rock, just a few blocks from another victim. All women were told to keep their doors locked and to not go near any strangers unless you were not alone.

Just recently there was a case in a pretty safe neighborhood where a man hacked to death a young boy aged 6. That happened in broad daylight on the common grounds of his apt. This apartment building is right next to a good friend's apartment building. Fortunately the man who killed the young boy was caught at the scene by tenants of the building and held until the police arrived.

Unfortunately we live at a time where a person's life and belongings have little to no meaning to others. We do have to be cautious of our surroundings at all times. The hillside strangling case made me take up a women's self defense class and it helped me get over the fear a bit by knowing that I knew how to bring a man down to his knees and still be able to get away. At least that was the theory. I don't believe in guns but I do believe in self-defense.

Molly I hope they caught this rat and know that you can help yourself mentally and physically by taking up a self-defense class or at least learn some techniques on what to do. Listen to what the police say and do it.

And one more thing. Don't rely on the 'secured building' thing. There really is no such thing. Where there is a will there is always a way.
