I have been reading this thread since it started, and I am now OFFICIALLY JEALOUS!

If I send money to someone-would you get me a program that I can frame and put in my den?
I have a whole WALL of Paul!
Pretty please?

Brave Face from PM.com sent me something from the Paris gig. :)

Probably the best thing to do is someone gets an extra program, send it to you and you send the money afterwards, seeing as no one knows how much the programs will be yet.

People have done similar things for me. For the 04 summer tour, someone in a Paul group I am on was going over, so she agreed to pick up a lot of things for people. She wouldn't take any money until she got back in case something went wrong. Turned out she went to the concert where it poured and the merchandise didn't arrive until the end of the concert. She thought she was not going to be able to fulfill our orders, but she did.

Speaking of which everyone -- I have advice for anyone coming from the U.S. to Liverpool.

Make sure that if you have a connecting flight have LOTS of time to connect because you do not want to miss your plane to the UK because of some ridiculous delay in the States. That could well put you a day or two late and at the very least, if there is some silly screw-up, your baggage might be delayed or lost.

Many people who travel to Europe frequently advise taking a direct flight if possible from the U.S. or if you are connecting, to connect in Europe. Apparently this is the state of affairs in U.S. air travel -- it's best to avoid all connecting flights within the U.S. <_<

I am considering a few things to get to Manchester (the airport I'm coming into). I could either take a direct flight from Philadelphia to Manchester, and get to the airport by train or bus, or take a connecting flight a LONG time before my translatlantic flight leaves. Or I could take a direct flight from the Baltimore airport to London (or another European city), then transfer at Heathrow or Gatwick to Manchester.

Lisa, let me know if you are going to fly out of Philadelphia, as that is what I am planning to do. I haven't booked a flight yet, but I know that USAIRways has a direct flight from Philly to Manchester.

Another option you could consider (if it helps) is heading for Birmingham International Airport, which has great transport links (it's right next to Birmingham International station) & is just over 100 miles closer to Liverpool than London - and at least 120 miles closer than Heathrow or Gatwick.

I think we've found a nice, reasonable place to stay about five miles outside Liverpool City Centre. When my booking is confirmed, I'll share. :)
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Oh thanks Andy about the Birmingham Airport because I had no idea. Because of this new plan I have (to avoid all U.S. connecting flights) it's probably going to be necessary for me to go to a travel agent for a good airfare so I am very happy to have another alternative rather than Heathrow or Gatwick. Particularly as I really want to avoid Heathrow as it's so crowded -- another place to potentially get luggage lost.

I think I will fly into LHR and then train it up to Liverpool. I can fly non-stop from Phoenix to London so I think this is my best bet, plus then I have an excuse to spend some time in town!!

Lisa, if you have to make a European connection why are you flying into Manchester and not Liverpool?

I'm doing the round about way of getting there. I am taking Icelandic Air, will spend some time in Reyjavik, then on to Glasgow. Spend some time there then take a train to Liverpool. I will be in Liverpool from May 29 for 5 nights. Then I will go to London and spend a couple of days before heading home. Icelandic Air doesn't fly out of Manchester. I will have to see if they fly out of Birmingham without connections.

Wherever I leave from on Icelandic, I will fly in the day/night before so I don't have problems with connections.

As of right now, there is one non-stop flight from Denver to the UK per week.

Those are my tentative travel days as well... leaving late on Wednesday, and early on Tuesday.
I'm only 30 minutes from the Philly airport, so that works best for me.
Still have to iron out the time off from work, though. ;)

Irene whether I come in at Manchester or Liverpool will depend upon which flight I decide to take. I haven't decided yet.

That is cool Lisa because there is an interesting possibility that we could take the same flight. ^_^

What site do I go use to book a train from Glasgow to Liverpool?

I know this sounds stupid, but isn't Scotland on different money than Great Britain?

we use the same money sort of.

Scotland accepts English money fine and we have our own notes from 3 different Scottish banks. Most places in England accept Scottish money but some look at it suspiciously but it is a legal tender so once they realise what it is its all fine, but they do have a right to not accept it which can be annoying as some shops especially smaller shops dont accept them coz Scottish money is apparently more prone to fraud etc, but you'll prob get English notes quite easily anyway

As for tickets. I always check on this site http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ for fares and prices which then eventually takes you to a rail service in the end once you have seen times and prices. Although if you want to be more direct about it I think its virgin rail who goes to Liverpool. http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/default.aspx Thats what I use from Edinburgh anyway. In the past I got a single for £9.99 and that was the same price back which isnt to bad, but ou have to book early. It gives you up to 12 weeks in advance before departure. The earlier you book the cheaper your ticket generally

I have never been to Iceland or Scotland. Guess I will need money in Iceland, too. I always think this will be the last time I am going to the UK, so I need to see places I have never seen before--so it's Iceland and Scotland this time.

So 12 weeks before I am coming over, I need to get online and book my train. Since I'm flying in to Glasgow, I will get Scottish money there right?

Linda- How long will you be in Glasgow for?

I'm thinking 3 days. Is that enough time to do some things. I don't enough know what is there to see. How far from Loch Ness? ;)

Ah so you wanna see Nessie
well it is a bit of a distance. Glasgow to Inverness is 177 miles (285 km) which I think takes about 4 hours driving but there is a train service there which would reduce the time a bit although I dunno how much by.

Posted Image
Loch Ness kind of starts to the west of Inverness and goes South of the country a wee bit to Fort William roughly which would be a a better way to see Loch Ness as its closer (101 miles)
There are boat trips and all sorts of things

Other stuff in Scotland you can do:
Edinburgh is only an hour away by coach (£6.20 return which isnt to bad) and there are loads of things to do or see their touristy wise. The Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, the parliament, climb Arthur's seat (or walk near it) a whole bunch of museums, ghost tours, dungeons, Botanic Gardens, The Royal Yacht Britannia and shopping. Its really easy to get round Edinburgh too and you could make a day of it. Its a lot more tourity than Glasgow is

Stirling is also good. Its about 40 mins away although a bit smaller than Edinburgh. The castle is pretty impresive too. Some alright shopping and food places.Really good place to go to in the sense of historical importance. The battle of Bannockburn (1314 where we kicked ass againt the English) isnt to far away and you can see the battleground and all that type of thing. Also the Wallace Monument is always worth checking out although there are a few steps to climb but the view is amazing once you're at the top.

Glasgow- Its not really a touristy place which some people obviously like. Loads of theatres and artsy type things going on there. Its a good place but be cautious in certain areas. There can be some pretty dodgy areas there and there is quite the Ned culture (chavs but worse) but the majority is harmless and all good fun.If you want to see the dingy side the barras is the place where they sell off the back of a lorry type of stuff  Although speaking of that just be wary of where you are in town.If youre in a Celtic/Rangers heavy area (and trust me you'll know if you get near one) be aware
But no its generally a good place, I think its better than Edinburgh for shoppping and things. There are some nice food places. Some really good plays, musicals, concerts etc occur
I dont really know Glasgow as well as I do other parts so dunno how much help I can give you. I'm pretty much just there for shopping or concerts, but it is often said Glaswegians are friendlier and they are probably right to an extent.
Quite a few good museums as well scattered about in terms of science and transport etc

Just outside Glasgow sort of is Loch Lomand and the Trossachs which is a nice place to go. Usual types of things, walking and just cool views and that gets you out the city

But in general Scotland is a pretty welcoming nation (unless you're English :P  ;) ) But I am biased. Heck I should get a job with the tourist board although maybe leave out the dodgy parts of Glasgow. Although there are dodgy parts in Edinburgh too. There is an interesting area where the prostitutes hang at Leith docks :D

and dont forget to try some haggis (there is a veggie version which is pretty good), shortbread, edinburgh rock, tablet, macaroon bars, battered mars bar, irn bru, whiskey etc. No wonder we are an unhealthy nation

Hope some of this has been of help and if you want to ask anything else let me know :D

I was supposed to go there for the Edinburgh Tattoo or whatever it is called in 1989, but got sick and stayed in London. The tour I took to see Paul in 2005 was to include Glasgow, but we got the rescheduled Sheffield concert instead. So, I need to see both cities on this trip.

Maybe I should fly in to Glasgow and then go to Edinburgh for more time. Is there a direct train from Edinburgh to Liverpool?

Its prob a lot nicer and easier to stay in Edinburgh although might be a tad more expensive having said that but not sure. There is a lot more to do and see and is much better for tourists. Although like Andy says it is quite hilly so make sure you are comfortable

I think the train from Edinburgh to Liverpool is a wee bit cheaper as well
