82A actually, doesn't go past Speke Hall but goes past Speke airport, then it's only a short walk from there.

The other option is to get the 82 and get off on Speke Road at the junction with Speke Hall Avenue and then walk down Speke Hall Avenue.

JIllian - if you go to the merseytravel shop at whitechapel (behind the Liverpool FC shop and near St johns Centre) and ask which bus will take you to Speke Hall directly they will tell you which number and bus stop to get it from ;) give yourself at least 1-2 hours though for stops

ps: as it turns out, folks had already cancelled Friday night at the hotel (never told me anything), because they want to go to London! My mother actually said to me: "what are we going to do two days in Liverpool?" MY GOD! And they couldn't give a shite about the Saturday morning tour of the houses! I am so seriously never going anywhere with them again.

Quote:

SIR PAUL McCartney is promising a “great evening” with some surprises when he takes to the stage at Anfield this weekend.

The Beatle legend is headlining the Liverpool Sound concert as his gift to Capital of Culture year.

More than 35,000 people will descend on the Liverpool FC stadium on Sunday evening to watch Macca and his band along with city favourites The Zutons and Leeds indie rockers The Kaiser Chiefs. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters is also due to appear.

This weekend’s gig was originally to have had a waterfront venue, with a plan to drain the water from Salthouse Dock and erect a stage and seating inside.

The idea was abandoned after a feasibility study suggested it would cost millions of pounds.

Speaking about the massive event, which has been in the planning for more than a year, Sir Paul, 65, said: “I think it will be a great evening and I’m ready to party.

“The thing about it was, the concert was talked about last year and there were a lot of exciting ideas like Salthouse Dock.

“But I said to people, make sure you can do this because I’ve had experience of these great ideas – it’s great to talk them, but to pull them off is something else.

“I asked, do you leave this facility for the people of Liverpool? They said it was going to be filled in again, and when the figures came in it was just crazy money.

“We said, we’ve got to do a gig, we ought to do a gig, and they changed the venue to Anfield, and I said well, that’s more practical – you don’t have to build a venue.

“I think it will be a really nice show and a great evening.”

Sunday’s concert at Anfield takes place on the fifth anniversary of his last appearance in Liverpool, when he played to a crowd of 40,000 at the Kings Dock.

Sir Paul, who was knighted by the Queen more than a decade ago, rocked the dock just days before Liverpool was announced as Britain’s European Capital of Culture host for 2008.

Sir Paul said: “I didn’t plan the date being the same, but I think someone might have now when I think about it.

“I’m sure they had options as to what day the show was going to be and someone might have noticed and said let’s do that.”

It will be something of a friends and family weekend, with Sir Paul’s daughter Stella in the city at the same time.

Yoko Ono and George Harrison’s widow Olivia are also expected in Liverpool, where they will attend screenings of All Together Now, the film made about Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles’ show Love, and Concert For George at Fact.

But Sir Paul says it is unlikely fellow Beatle Ringo Starr will join him on stage at the stadium.

He said: “That was never going to be on the cards. He opened the year.”

Macca added: “We’ve got a few little surprises up our sleeve, it will be a bit different from our normal shows.

“Dave Grohl is going to do something with us, so that will be nice.

“That’s it basically. It’s not that long a show. There’s a curfew at this place, but I am doing a full set.

“It will be a mixture of music. The idea will be to give the audience what I think they would want.”

There are still a handful of tickets available for the concert priced at £55 and £75 (plus booking and transaction fees). Visit www.liverpool08.com. Anyone who cannot make it to Anfield on Sunday can watch televised highlights of the concert on BBC2 at 11pm on the night.

What does he mean by not going to be a long show? Does he mean like an all day festival concert or his typical touring show? Whats a full set? I'm so excited!!! Up at 5am doing laundry. Hope I get all my packing done in time.

Call them and tell them you want a partial refund because you still intend to use the tickets but you fell you were way overcharged for the seats. Maybe they will be reasonable. I have a feeling yours is not the only complaint they are getting.

I'm telling you Heidi check airfares into Manchester. It's less than an hour by train and around 9pounds from there to Liverpool. It's about 45 minutes to fly and I only paif 47pounds. Mind you you are paying for 2 but the time saved to me is worth the extra few bucks

Well, I just checked Orbitz.com and the cheapest flight offered is $177 per person....maybe I would've had to booked awhile ago to get a fare that you mentioned.

I'm really worried after reading these posts...we are leaving Heathrow at around 9am and will probably drive directly to Speke Hall. I pray to God that we get there on time for the tour!!

I need help...can anyone tell me how to get to Speke Hall? I think we are driving in from the M6? Crap, Joe went to bed and I'm in the hotel lobby online so I can't ask him; but I will check back tomorrow here for help. I can always mapquest it or ask the concierge for help. Mapquest said it was a 3 hr drive; so I don't know that I trust it.

Hold the bus, Jayne!

Hold the bus, Jayne!

OK from M6 ;)

you need junction 21a for the M62 to Liverpool (all signposted)

go all along to the end of the motorway and you will see a flyover at a set of traffic lights and you need to turn left at these traffic lights (you will go on to Queens Drive)

Carry along this dual carriage way until you see some mini-roundabouts - there should be signs that say Woolton and Speke (and should also have a little plane which means the way to the airport ;))

Go keep following the little plane signs and just before the airport there is a big roundabout where the 2nd turn off is speke hall (speke hall should be advertised as a brown sign with an acorn on the sign and saying 'speke hall')

tell the fella at the gate that you are there to take the tour of the houses ok ;)

Hope these directions are OK for you Heidi - doing that just then in my head is mindblowing lol :P :P

ooo btw one of the roads from the M62 that takes you to speke is Menlove Avenue ;) yes you go past John's house :boogie:

I got loads of haggis. Proper and veggie.
That ticket I got fromt he tout they phoned me today and said it would be here tomorrow between 9am-1pm and I said thats not much good as I'll be on my way to Liverpool. they decided to hang up. It was a withheld number as well, thats annoying and me very out of pocket now....but at least I'm going. Still not packed yet though

LIVERPOOL Culture Company has been forced to offer refunds to around 10% of ticket holders for Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Sound gig on Sunday.

It comes after ticket holders campaigned against the Culture Company, after those who bought top-priced £75 tickets last year found they were to be seated in the same area as those paying £35 and £55 now.

Last month, the Liverpool Daily Post exclusively revealed that 11,000 tickets, on top of the 25,000 originally sold, were to be put out for sale to cover the mounting costs of the concert at Anfield.

The concert which starts at 5.30pm will feature Liverpool band The Zutons, The Kaiser Chiefs, and front man of The Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl.

Allocating additional tickets and a re-design of the stage has led to a "reconfiguration" of seats for the concert.

The issue has sparked controversy among ticket holders, some of whom have claimed the company has breached the Trades Descriptions Act.

Mark Rodwell, 28, from Southport, bought £75 tickets in the lottery when tickets were originally allocated last year.

He said: "Because Liverpool 08 could not cover the costs, they sold the tickets twice putting most of the original premium tickets in the Kop, mixed in with the £35 and £55 pound tickets.

"I bought two £75 tickets and they are in the same section as £35/£55.

"I have taken up the refund. I am disgusted, I was not given the tickets I was promised and I was not prepared to pay nearly £200 to sit at the back."

He said he was hoping to get £35 tickets in the same section.

A number of people have also logged on to a blog section of Sir Paul’s website to express their dissatisfaction.

Those who want to take up the offer of the refund have until 5pm tonight (Thurs).

Last night, Kris Donald- son, director of Liverpool Culture Company, said: ''As has been well publicised, the Liverpool Sound capacity has expanded by 11,000 since the ballot last September.

"In that time, stage specifications have also changed. Both of these developments will be of huge benefit to concert goers in terms of the overall experience.

"As a consequence, some event logistics have been modified, including reconfiguring the location of some of the seats for less than 10% of the audience.

"An initial poll to those affected has been very positive, and most are happy as their seats are in an excellent position. As an alternative, customers have been offered a refund."

To apply for a refund, email liverpoolsound@seetickets.com - these tickets will then be resold as there is significant demand for this event

Liverpool, here I come!

Jayne will be in Runcorn tomorrow, you have my arrival time (you gave it to me)
Dani, our tickets are not here so I will have to get them in Liverpool.

To all those who wanted to attend but for whatever reasons couldn't, you will be missed. Would have been cool to have everyone there. However, you all will be in spirit.

JIllian - if you go to the merseytravel shop at whitechapel (behind the Liverpool FC shop and near St johns Centre) and ask which bus will take you to Speke Hall directly they will tell you which number and bus stop to get it from ;) give yourself at least 1-2 hours though for stops

Thanks so much Jayne. It looks like this might be difficult to do, since the earliest I can get there is around 1 pm.

Jayne, what's the car parking like at the Crown?

No chance, it's double yellow lines all around there.

You can park in William Brown Street by the museum or Library, I think it's free after 7, or you can park in Mount Pleasant car park, but you'd need to check what time they stay open till.

Maybe taxi.

Or another option might be to get the train from Liverpool Central and get off at Hunts Cross and then get a taxi.

my folks have booked a hotel 7 miles away from anfield, I'm really angry about that seeing as we already had a Premier Inn booking which is in the centre, but can't think too much about that, too excited about going to Brighton tomorrow and Liverpool on Saturday

too p*ssed to worry about making sense, ENGLAND HERE I COME, but yeah, I'm not taking my folks to the meetup. It's only possible I bring my brother along, but I'm not sure he'll want to show up
