Is there a list as to who's coming to the meet? I remember someone asked a week or so ago but not sure if I missed it.
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

I was the one who asked for it...and I don't recall seeing one either...

Bev I soooo wish you were coming to Liverpool what a bright spot that would be for me! I'll miss you but hopefully one day we will see each other. I can't take your ticket as I've already got mine for the same time but actually I wonder if there is anyone else Jayne knows who would want the ticket? Also have you checked with the National Trust if a refund is a possibility?

Aww, Lisa. I would give anything to be able to make the trip to Liverpool, but my darned work schedule just won't allow it. This is the SECOND time that Paul has played Liverpool in early June, preventing me from attending. Doesn't this man realize that I'm not free to travel until summer?? What's wrong with him? :nono:

I'm not worried about a refund on the ticket. I figure that the tour is probably sold out, and I was hoping that one of our fellow boardies who wasn't able to get ticket could use mine. I'll keep looking . . . .

And I definitely see a meetup in our futures. I'm hoping to do the NYC Marathon either this year or next (2009 is a more realistic expectation) and maybe you, me and Betsy and anyone else nearby could get together and make a weekend of it. I can't wait to meet you in person. I certainly feel as though I already *know* you.

I'm sorry but I don't know anyone who would want the ticket :hmm: wish you was coming - you know that Bev  as well as Betsy

Jayne, meeting you was one of the main reasons I so desperately wanted to travel to Merseyside. I'm going to miss out on cheering for your lads! That would be an experience of a lifetime!! :yahoo:

I wish Bev was coming too. She's a lot of fun!! We'll miss you Bev but I feel a Vegas trip coming on!! (Wish Ringo was playing there again)

Irene, you're a hoot! I'm feeling a Vegas road trip in our futures.

Still got that travelin' coffeemaker? I have a blender that takes road trips and makes mean margaritas. Just ask Queenbee/Judy. ;) (Not sure I would've been able to get that blender past customs and into Liverpool. )

Does anyone need a ticket to visit Paul's childhood home?  I bought one for the May 30th p.m. tour and won't be needing it now. :(

Bev, you and I will have to have our own meet-up that day. We need to commiserate and still have some fun. Hopefully you can come to the California meet-up we are going to have when Andy and Fiona reach the Pacific Ocean side of life.

Hey there, Cath. We will definitely have our L.A. meet-up on the 14th, and I sure hope the guests of honor will be there.

I'll be in San Diego on the 1st . . . doing the SD Rock and Roll Marathon. :)

Btw, can you believe it's been almost a year since our Amoeba adventure??? :o

Good, you'll have a fun run. Good luck with the marathon!

I most definitely know about the Amoeba show anniversary. I plan on playing the Amoeba show recording I have AND the videos I have all that day!

Hey, if anyone going to the LA meet-up want a pretty good copy of the Amoeba show just let me know and I will burn it for ya!

Bev, don't you need to show the credit card used to buy the ticket to pick up the real ticket?

Linda, I have the option of printing the ticket in advance. I also feel certain that the ticket office would honor a request to allow transfer of the ticket at the box office, if proper advance notification were to be provided.

Jillian, do you need a ticket???

Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Sound concert
May 15 2008
EXCLUSIVE by David Bartlett, Liverpool Daily Post

FOO Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl is set to play at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Sound concert next month.

The American, who is known to be a fan of The Beatles, is understood to have been “very keen” to be involved in the gig on Sunday, June 1, that will also feature the rock stars Kaiser Chiefs.

The Culture Company had promised a “very special international superstar guest” for Sir Paul’s concert, and Grohl, the former drummer of 1990s grunge band Nirvana, appears to be that person.

I don't even know who the Foo Fighters are.

I wouldn't throw up at the thought of those support acts. I'm not a Foo Fighters fan as I don't have any of their albums but I know from friends they are very good live and as its only David I have a feeling he will sing Band On The Run with Paul as The Foo Fighters sang it on Radio 1s 40 album and Paul did like their version. The Kaiser Chiefs are a great band too, very good life and will certainly get everyone excited before Paul comes on stage. Obviously Paul has decided to only be on stage for a certain amount of time so they are filling it in with other bands. As for The Zutons and Wombats, I saw the Zutons as a support act for The Who and hadn't really heard their stuff and was very impressed and as a result bought their albums. The Wombats, not a huge fan, a new band, they do have many fans and they are graduates (I believe) of LIPA so its good for Paul to have a successful band from there.
Ok I may have gone on but I felt some of the comments were unfair about the above bands.

What's with all the negativity towards the other acts? You all knew this was going to be a festival, not a solo Paul McCartney show. They need to have something for everyone. And frankly, if people have never heard of Foo Fighters, I'd be interested to know which desert island you've been living on for the last 15 years.
I don't know the Wombats' work but I do know that the frontman (whose name escapes me) is a mate of Paul's so if that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is.

Much as we all love Paul and the Beatles, they're not the only thing to have ever come out of Liverpool and history didn't end in 1970.

PLEASE do not end up sounding like all the old farts who dissed the Beatles for being too young and loud and modern and popular. That would be really ironic for a Beatle fan. ;)

Sorry Bill, I've been an old fart too long to change now. I know what I like and I know what I don't like. There could have been many other choices of contemporary bands that I would have been happy with. I've been to a Foo Fighters concert and (ask my husband) I did not like that their music. That's ok, won't stop me from having a good time. :yahoo:

No-one is saying you have to like it, but at least accept the fact that first and foremost, it's a show put on by Liverpudlians for Liverpudlians and not for tourists on a Beatles odyssey. But an American who loves The Beatles. When he got married a few years ago, he got The Fab Four to perform at the reception. His group may not be everyone's favorite, I DO like the Foo Fighters btw, but you gotta give him props - he is a big Beatles fan.

As I stated previously, the Foo Fighters put The Police to shame last year, when they shared the same bill. I actually felt sorry for Sting, Stewart and Andy having to come on and perform after the Foo Fighters rocked the house.

That doesn't necessarily follow. The concert is being organised by and for Liverpudlians and if it's Dave Grohl they want, then Dave Grohl they shall have. It's not for visiting Beatles fans to complain about it. ;)

Much as we all love Paul and the Beatles, they're not the only thing to have ever come out of Liverpool and history didn't end in 1970.

PLEASE do not end up sounding like all the old farts who dissed the Beatles for being too young and loud and modern and popular. That would be really ironic for a Beatle fan. ;)

Exactly Bill!

Bill you've said what I feel and I am an old fart. :)

I also have also felt as American that we as a nationality have a reputation for being presumptuous about how things are supposed to be when we travel to other countries. I certainly don't mean all of us, particularly us here, but I have been dismayed frequently when overseas to hear Americans make disparaging comments about the people and countries they are in for everyone to hear. And they make these comments while standing right in the country they are talking about!

For that reason alone, I am perhaps take too much care in being polite and undemanding when I am in another country. The event that we are attending is called The Liverpool Sound, and will be the centerpiece of the European Capital of Culture festival, celebrating Liverpool, not just Paul McCartney.

Though Paul is pretty important too. :)

Don't worry Jayne, I too don't have mine, and when I asked members who had received theirs they were standing. I think its standard procedure to give them out in batches like that. I'm preium seats so I guess those will all go out in one batch too - I hope - if not then maybe a reason to worry.

I knew that this was not a Paul McCartney concert. However, I was under the impression that the other acts were to have been part of Liverpool culture. I thought that meant they would be Liverpudlians.

I'm looking forward to the concert, no matter who else is playing besides Paul. I always assumed it was going to be a festival-type show, anyway. However, I was hoping for some of the classic Liverpool performers like Echo and the Bunnymen, Julian Cope, the La's, the Coral, or even Elvis Costello to attend. It will be cool, though, to check out some new music.

What's with all the negativity towards the other acts? You all knew this was going to be a festival, not a solo Paul McCartney show. They need to have something for everyone. What a mess this is going to be! I feel sorry for those of you that were planning to queue all day...

I saw someone post about this at PM.com...I never received this email. I had previously sent an email to "ZENA HARRISON" that was on the previous email...and she told me that they would leave my tickets at the 08 place for a Saturday, May 31st pick-up. Am I now to assume that is not going to happen?
Wow.
This is poorly organized.
And just also wanted to say that people are getting pretty defensive about the music that will be playing at the concert.
All I want to know is one thing...is Paul playing?
He is? Good enough for me.

The main reason I am traveling halfway across the world is to see Paul McCartney play in his place of birth  ....it'll truly be a once in a lifetime experience for me. Of course, I've always wanted to visit England so this is a great opportunity for me to go!

Any other band is just fluff. And that's fine. ;) It'll be a nice event, I'm sure! But the more of Paul, the better (for me)!

Now about these tickets; yes, it has been poorly handled. I had to write "Zena Harrison" several times (thanks to Linda for getting me an email address) because I never received the emails that you all have been posting here! And that makes me very nervous! (What is "queing?") Anyway, I hope that I will be able to collect my tickets at the venue on the day of the event....I'll be ready with my email from her (she did give me a reference number) and my credit card number.

Just one more week!!!!!!! :yahoo:

I knew that this was not a Paul McCartney concert. However, I was under the impression that the other acts were to have been part of Liverpool culture. I thought that meant they would be Liverpudlians.

Exactly, Linda. I think my point was misunderstood. I wasn't putting down Dave Grohl or the Foo Fighters. I LIKE THEM!!! I was merely pointing out that, if this was billed as "The Liverpool Sound", then Dave Grohl would not fit into that category, as he is not from Liverpool. THAT"S ALL I'M TRYING TO SAY!!

Good grief. I'll bow out now and go back under my rock. Seems no matter what I try to say or how I try to say it, I just can't satisfy certain people, so I'll stop saying anything. :pinch:

My tickets (standing) arrived this morning. My daughter's standing tickets haven't arrived yet though.

Must admit I thought it would be more "vintage" Liverpool performers that would be on the bill, rather than modern ones. The ones that created the "Liverpool Sound" along with the Beatles. Never mind, as long as they only do a couple of songs each and don't take ages doing the changeovers. As long as they leave plenty of time for Paul.....

(What is "queuing?")

Heidi, queuing in England is what Americans do when we line up for something.

Kudos to Bill and Lisa regarding the performers. Lisa is pretty much on target when it comes to some Americans and their expectancy when they visit other countries. When my tour group and I went to Hamburg, the Reeperbahn mainly, it was on display a little bit but soon went away when we got to London and Liverpool. We should just think of how we would treat someone that is visiting from another country. That's all.

Sure we have the right to complain but even I could've told you it was a festival. You are going to see Paul in his home country, that alone should be a treat no matter who else is on the bill. I would've given my eye teeth to attend. Who cares who else plays, IT'S PAUL!!!

Some people before dissing others should read what was announced back in October and the blub since then which has been disseminated by liverpool08. It is not just foreigners who are p*ssed off at the sheer balls up that has been done by the organisers. I could try to reproduce what i have been told be two scousers in the last couple of weeks, but even i blushed. To bash an american for spending easily over a thousand dollars coz they dont wish to see another bloody american is a bit rich. I was looking forward to seeing a couple of new liverpool bands and then bands or one member of bands from the 90's,80's, 70's and of course 60's. But they would be from liverpool or Birkenhead ( i had nightmares some get from St helens would try to squeeze in ), the show was supposed to be about the Liverpool Sound not the Seattle Crap.

now awaiting another pom bash as everything sh*tty in the world is our fault.

And I agree with Peter and the $1000 only covers getting there. It doesn't even start to cover hotels, etc.

Those other bands just better not eat into my McCartney time. I would have loved if we got to see Cilla Black, Gerry Marsden, Elvis Costello and people like that. That is who I was expecting. They are the Liverpool Sound to me.

Can somebody tell me what the Kaiser Chefs (whoever they are) have to do with Liverpool, aside from maybe being a UK band.
