I thought you'd probably know that, Dani, but I was posting that just in case anyone didn't.

I've travelled by National Express and Eurolines a bit in the last couple of years and the driver you get makes all the difference to your journey. A cheery, helpful driver rather than an oppressive, rule-quoting, grumpy bugger can be the difference between a good trip and a miserable one.

Still, I don't envy coach drivers at all - a horrible, tedious, dangerous job. If life was fair they'd be on a lot more money than they are.

As a railway employee, I'm entitled to 75% off the full open fare (not the saver fare) - and the coach is still usually cheaper. What does that tell you?

...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I prefer the train. Faster, more space, onboard food and being able to walk around. Plus the free music.

I don't think anyone has said they prefer the bus, but have chosen the bus because the train is so expensive. £150 return for one person is a bit much.

£150 :hyper: I've just bought an air ticket to Spain for only £ 95!
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

Well...after flying for what could be between 10-12 hours...getting on a bus (for how long? 5+ hours??) is NOT an option. Some things are worth paying for...but thats just *my* opinion. I suppose if I was living in London, or some other place in the UK...and taking a trip to Liverpool, then I might think a bus was OK. I guess its all a matter of where you are coming from. If I can shave a few hours off my travel time...I'm all for it.

Yeah true Rose

Does anyone need a National Trust tour ticket to visit Paul's house? I have one for sale. :(

((((Bev)))) :hmm:

If you don't get a buyer for your ticket, you can email them to explain you won't be able to come to England and ask if they will refund you your ticket. Their website says no refunds except for certain circumstances. I had a change in plans and had double-booked, wrote to them, and they refunded one of my tours.

After reading through some of the recent posts here, I really feel everyone's pain.
I'm so glad I don't have to worry about booking a train or coach to Liverpool -- I just have to travel from Manchester. I am sorry that I won't even get to see London on this trip, though.
What a long, strange trip it's been....

Holy mackerel! I wish we had the tickets already, but it's nearly time to start seriously planning!

I've discovered that the cheapest way for Fiona and I to travel to Liverpool involves going via Hull.

It's going to be packed while we are all there.

There's nothing worse than meeting people for a chat and the music is playing so loud you end up shouting. I'm sure Jayne will find a suitable venue where will can all have fun getting to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.

Although I'm not going to the concert I'm travelling to Liverpool with my wife just for the meet-up. :yahoo:

awwwww thank you everyone  as Tony said with it being underground AND we were the only ones in there it is very hard to hear, plus at weekends you have to sometimes pay to get in the cavern at night and I'll have an itchy feeling that night will be no excepetion ;)

the venue will be announced in the next couple of weeks ok ;)

No I'm not in charge Lauren but I started this thread originally so that people who were either living around the north west or visiting Liverpool could meet up for a few drinks - since I started this thread of course the sound concert as been organised and people got tickets and are coming over here so naturally the ideal meet up for EVERYONE on the board (whether they are attending the gig or not) should meet up here. Not everyone attending the meet up are going to the concert and I for one cannot wait for them to arrive too. I have given alot of people both publically and via PM information on best places to stay and regarding trips and things to do when they come up here too.

I want people to experience their best possible trip EVER when they come to visit 'My World' and a meet up in a crowded place ISNT my standard of accommodating and entertaining my fellow boardies and visitors, especially when I know the best pubs to go around the city and I'll tell you now after drinking in quite a few of them in the last 16 years I know the good un's from the bad un's

Jayne, dear, remember my bribe? :P I will definitely need that.

I am certain from all the assistance you have given me that this will be my best trip ever to Liddypool, although it will be hard to top 1990 and 2003. I just know this will be wonderful.

I have Lisa as a roommate and Lauren around, as well as all the other boardies.

When it gets closer, you will have to tell me how to get from Lime Street to my hotel as I have no idea.

For those of you who havent recieved it here we go

Format of Evening:

5.30pm doors open
7.30pm concert starts
10.30pm concert finishes

(it does say times subject to change - so hopefully the concert might end later but it all depends on the music licence Anfield hold :hmm:)

well I can assure you it wont go on much later than that. Prob 11ish at the latest if it were to. Thw Wombats are supposed to be playing 4 songs. That is all I know. So could just be them and Paul. But this sounds quite normal compared to any other concert. Still gives him the chance to play quite a long set

I hate not having tickets in hand. Makes me nervous. All the more because they didn't send me the email. UGH.

Rose have they sent you any confirmation that you have tickets?

You should bring that with you of course. And I would think you can call or email before you come to make sure your tickets will be available.

Well...I received this:

Congratulations!

You have been successful with your application for The Liverpool Sound on 1st June 2008 at LFC Anfield Stadium.

You have been allocated 2 Premium Seats tickets at a total cost of £169.85 including a booking fee of £18.00 and a transaction fee of £1.85 which has already been charged to your credit card.

You will be emailed details about receiving your tickets within four weeks of the event date.

Enjoy the show!

Liverpool 08

And they also managed to take the amount off my credit card....just wondering why I didn't get this other email.

Lisa, not to worry. We will get our tickets before June 1.

It's been a good week. I got the email, too. Now I don't have to worry about trying to get my tickets to Jillian.

Linda -- we should definitely try to pick up our tickets early, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Oh. And I got my new passport in the mail this week as well. (Old one had expired). It only took about three weeks! Things are coming together quite nicely. Roll on, May! :yahoo:
What a long, strange trip it's been....

Daniella go a page back. Its just saying dates and times you can pick up tickets in Liverpool if they are getting picked up and something to do with them not sending them out internationally so I dont think it affects you to much anyway

Thanks Dani. A member on the Macca board has posted some more info. Looks like gig won't be on for that long (as in most of afternoon too with other bands as some predicted).

Here's public transport information:

The stadium can then be accessed via bus route 17 or 217 from Queens Square Bus Station in Liverpool City Centre. This bus route operates every fifteen minutes from two minutes past the hour until 6pm when it changes to 6.02pm, 6.32pm and 7.32pm from stand 8. Please note that the last bus back to the city centre leaves at 11.36pm.

A taxi rank will be located at Arkles Lane at the rear of the stadium running alongside Stanley Park.

And here's the most important information:

Opening times

Gates will open at 17.30 hours

The concert will start at 19.00 approx, with finish time 22.00 approx (please note times may vary).

Concessions selling food and beverages will be available within the stadium until 15 mins before the end of the show. Official merchandise will be available to purchase within the grounds of the stadium once through ticket checks.

Please note pass outs will NOT be granted. Anyone leaving the stadium will not be granted access back into the event.

It's a little disappointing that it won't be an "all-dayer". Given the amount of money the tickets were, I was expecting something like this to start early afternoon and finish at around eleven.

Still, it's Macca. What can you do?

Yeah I, like many, have spent just under £170 for two tickets. Still its the same price as one Rolling Stones ticket last year.

Don't rely too heavily on those bus times, they very rarely arrive at the bus stop on time, and if the busses are full they'll just drive right pass the bus stop, they usually stop further down the road or stop before they get to the bus stop to let people off but won't let anyone on if they are full.

By the way, you can also get the number 26 from the Paradise Street bus station; it also stops outside the ground. The 26 will probably be your best option as you have more chance of getting a seat.

You can also get the 27 as well, but you don't really want to do that because the 27 goes the long way round. Both the 26 and 27 are circulars, so if you stayed on then you'll end up where you started. Both 26 and 27 take the same route but in opposite directions.

Macca concert tickets in the US are $250 for most of the venue. I just hope Macca is on for most of the time. That will not disappoint me.

Its a bit weird the whole thing really because so many times I heard it started earlier so its a bit of a disapointment that it does only start at 7:00 but just as long as Paul plays a lengthy set we will be fine. I get the feeling though now it could just be The Wombats opening and then Paul doing the main thing. Meaning Paul would come on about 8-8:30 at the latest which still gives quite a long set

Ok guys
plans are being made, plane tickets bought, hotels being booked and already booked for liverpool - but not staying in l'pool but in runcorn......the difference in the hotel room ought to cover the difference i will be paying in petrol cuz i think i am renting a car from london to liverpool - costs 62 pounds to rent but the hotel room which is rather nice is only 70 pounds a night, so what i save in hotel i pay in gas, but i dont have to worry about how i will get in and out of the gig, can go sightseeing on the way to liverpool and have the luxery or not having to worry about getting about.
and I have driven before in the UK,l seems as i am left handed that wrong side of the road and stick shift doesnt bother me in the least

can you all tell i am allowing myself to get excited????!!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
