Since I have hotels paid for in US dollars for London and Edinburgh, I am going to try to call the hotel and Liverpool and prepay that now.

I know the exchange rate stinks. I still need to book the trains. I will most likely be limiting my spending to food, the Linda McCartney exhibit and very few trinkets because of the exchange rate.

Well, here's another clue for you all, the Walrus was Paul...
I don't remember the times of my 'tours'. I know I am taking the National Trust one on Saturday May 31st...I think in the morning. My MMT is Monday June 2...in the afternoon. I'm a bit fuzzy on details at the moment, but I'm a bit tired.

Oh, I've already booked that tour :yahoo:  I was thinking about the othe rone that goes around to all the Beatley places like strawberry Fields and whatnot...

Oh by the way, are we supposed to pick up the tixs for the National Trust Tour there or are the going to me mailed to us?

Oooops, sorry. I misunderstood your question. I haven't made plans for the *other* tours yet, but I think Linda and Heidi and Rose have. Maybe they'll be along shortly to answer your question.

I remember having to indicate whether I wanted to pick up my tickets at the box office or whether I wanted them mailed, when I purchased them online. Didn't you do that, Jillian?

I have tickets for the National Trust Tour on Friday May 30th @ 3:20 pm (originally I had the morning tour but due to traveling from London to Liverpool that day, I had to change to the afternoon tour). I already printed out my tickets as they give you the option of that or picking them up upon arrival. I chose to print mine now.

I am booking the MMT on Saturday May 31st at either the first one @ 11:40am or the second at 2:10pm. Is anyone booked on either of these?

Hi Bag'O'Nails, how is it possible to change your National Trust tour date? My ticket is for 31st May afternoon tour, but a friend of mine has one for the previous day and we'd like to go together. According to the site tickets are non refundable. :(

Ok I was looking 'round and remembered that I chose the option to pick them up at the '08 place. I went on the site again and it seems that there are still places left on the tour on the 30 May at 3.20 pm.

Do we have to have a visa to go to England, 'cos I just got my passport and they say some countries require a visa to enter. :hmm: If so, where can I go to get one?

Hi Bag'O'Nails, how is it possible to change your National Trust tour date? My ticket is for 31st May afternoon tour, but a friend of mine has one for the previous day and we'd like to go together. According to the site tickets are non refundable. :(

Well you are right about them not refunding tickets but the website does say, "Tickets are non-refundable unless there are exceptional circumstances."

I tried and tried to contact them with no luck. I think their offices don't open until March, so what I decided to do was to buy another set of tickets for the afternoon tour. And when they open in March, I'll call them explaining why I couldn't make the original morning tour like I had planned & hopefully will refund my money since I am double-booked for the same day.

However, if your friends are on that May 30th MORNING tour and you would like to buy my two tickets, I would be more than happy to sell them to you! Just send me a pm!

ok, you guys forgot me..... so i admit i havent been here much lately, but you forgot me

heck my plans are so uncertain at this time
but i do have premium and pitch seats, not sure which ones i am using at this time, nor do i know who i am going with, and some friends on pm.com are also going so i am looking at three groups to meet up with, and i dont have a room yet so might arrive with my sleeping bag, but i do have plastic!!!
and might be considering doing the wait in line thing with the pitch tickets, and fight my way to the front    :hyper: :hyper:
but keep me in mind for the meetup, ok? might be with my hubby, more than likely though not (he says he is too busy in june at his motorcycle store)

but i do have the time off of work so.............
dont forget me

and i want to meet heidi, even though we are only a few hours from each other, meeting in liverpool would be cool

The most amazing thing about this meetup is that most of the Americans coming from the board will meet for the first time in the UK.

I love it.

Just a word to any those of us coming from the US. Start saving your pennies. IT"S EXPENSIVE in the UK!! Not only did I notice an increase in prices since I was last there but the pound/dollar is shite!!

You were in the UK, Irene? I thought you just went to France!

Just the airport with a quick pop into Hounslow not long but I but a few os the same things every time and the price has gone up.

the dollar is way down right now, so it looks like the same price, but it is actually double

first thing sharon and i noticed last time we were there

mad cuz i saw plane tickets for 520 and now they are back up to 700 but i figure the difference is a night or two in a room, will still wait and see how far they go down next tuesday

I've been on a high too, I got tickets to see Muse, The Fratellis and Noel Fielding for TCT and when I saw The Go! Team last night I couldn't still stop thinking about Muse even I had a great night last night. Highs are great, but I think I had better control myself soon or my mates will be a bit bored soon.

Liverpool is certainly going to quickly now for me now as I am going to see Noel Fielding, The Fratellis, Muse, The Kooks and The Pigeon Detectives all before Paul. My mates think I'm crazy. :D

I will be checking in to the Jurys Inn Edinburgh 43 Jeffrey Street on May 25 for 4 nights. Which train station do I want, Dani?

After I get paid again on Monday, I want to plan some day trips in Edinburgh and London.

I'm not Dani, but I can tell you that your hotel is right next to Edinburgh's main station, Edinburgh Waverley. :)

What is the difference between a SAVER SINGLE and a Standard Open Single?

A Standard Open Single has absolutely no restrictions as to when you can use it and it's the most expensive standard class ticket you can buy. A Saver Single can only be used in the off-peak - it's a little bit cheaper.

If you know exactly when you want to travel, booking specific trains in advance will save you the most money. :)
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

How do I book a specific train and what is the cheapest site? I can pick a time and make a certain train now that I figured out that the train leaves from Euston and I'm going to Waverly.

The fastest Edinburgh trains leave from London Kings Cross, rather than Euston, although these days there isn't too much in it.

Try http://www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com/Tr...icket-Options1/ (Kings Cross to Edinburgh)

or

http://www.virgintrains.com/default.aspx (Euston to Edinburgh)

and you can see which one is the cheapest/fastest for your particular needs. :)

It says only select a service if I want to reserve a seat. Do I need to reserve a seat?

Guess these trains aren't as inexpensive as I remembered.

Yes, you definitely need to reserve a seat - these services are extremely busy...

...and yes, they are very expensive these days. Amtrak in the USA is very cheap compared to the UK railways. Sometimes it's even cheaper to fly on domestic flights than to take the train, which really isn't ideal from an environmentalist standpoint.

Jillian, you only need your passport.

Thanks Cathy! :sweet:

Air France are very reputable. The only long-haulers who I have heard aren't that wonderful are North West, but that's more down to the service you get on board rather than safety.

That's really sad, isn't it? The most environmentally damaging method of transport is the cheapest. :(

I'm not blaming you at all, Linda, we all have a budget to make our plans on, I just think it's a sad state of affairs that flying is cheaper than train.

Of course, coach/bus is cheaper than both, but it's really quite horrible to be on a coach for that length of time. <_<

whatever you do then dont get an airport bus to the city centre, they are a rip off. Get a Lothian bus (35) from the airport, uses the same stop as the airport ones so just a step outside the door, They only cost £1 for one trip or £2.50 for a day ticket, airport busses are a rip off

No, I don't want to do the bus. It takes too much time and I don't want to spend my vacation on a bus.

I use virgin trains, http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/default.aspx
but they only let you book 12 weeks beforehand, so you will have to wait a few weeks before you can book them,

Tis true...I was on the Virgin site yesterday, and it wouldn't let me book this far in advance. The train part of my trip is the only thing I haven't taken care of, yet.

the thing is, when I went in Jan my tickets cost me £18 each roughly but then 2 Aussies I met in the YHA when they got theirs about 2 days before coming up to Edinburgh I think it cost them £15 or something so I am gonna go ask them at the station how much they cost coz I hate getting ripped off

Air France do direct services from L.A. to London - they're very competitive at the moment, as well.

Although Tony has just answered this one, I just have to say that there's no point in asking Londoners which one is better, because - as they're only really for tourists - very few Londoners actually go on those things!

(Not many of us could afford to!) ;)
