I think you explained it rather sufficiently, although there are some rooms you can get for 1, they aren't as bad as they seem, you can be sharing with some real cool people, however you can also be stuck with some nightmares, it also varies on how many people you are sharing with and yes you have to share a bathroom with all those people in that room, but if you just plan to sleep then its easy

why I stay in them, coz its bloody cheap, and ultimately I like cheap :D

just had a thought (and to give it a bump too ;)

for those of you with the top priced tickets (like me) asking a sort of favour if poss

Ive got 4 tickets for me, the witches and 1 undecided as people know

thing is though I wont know until the concert whether we will be near each other or not

anyway if the case is that we are not near each other BUT someone from here is near to one of our sets of tickets, would you consider a swap so we can all be close together(ish)

I know I am asking alot but if you dont ask you'll never know

My friend and I are thinking of just taking a day trip to London. Where should I go when I'm there?

A day trip?

Well, there's not a huge amount you can do in a day, but I'd say that one day could easily include;

Houses Of Parliament/Big Ben
Westminster Abbey
The London Eye
Thames River Cruise
London Tour Bus to see the other sights
Buckingham Palace
Picnic lunch in Green Park
Dinner & West End show (book it a few days in advance on www.lastminute.com for a bargain)

You should be able to do that in one day, but you'll need at least £125 per person to really enjoy the day.

If you had more than one day, then there are some wonderful free museums here and, if you're on a limited budget, you could always head for those instead of the other more expensive stuff I've suggested. :)

Thank you ever so much Andy! You have been so helpful to me!

I had been told London was very expensive, but it's definitely something I want to do. I'm liking the idea of the free museums. I could spend all day perusing museums alone. ^_^

Also I'm curious:

Is it worth it to get the Liverpool discount card, or not?

And what do you think about Wirral? I think it looks absolutely beautiful, but brochures only show he good stuff. Should I go, or not waste my time?

That's actually good to hear. We've decided to stay at a hostel in Liverpool (if I can book a room) and I think it should be fine. I'm cool with sharing a bathroom. Just like you, I like cheap. ^_^ We figure we won't be spending a whole lot of time there anyway, just to sleep and bathe. I hope I pick a good one.

try the YHA in the Albert Dock, it's a very good hostel, full breakfast is included in the price (not something many hostels offer) and bathrooms are ensuite.
Oh and it's beatle-decorated! ^_^

Thanks for the site! I didin't know it was Beatle-decorated! That makes me want to stay there even more. Do you know if I pay all when I book it, or do I pay some now and the rest when I get there?

Also, do you know anything about the International Inn? I haven't heard much about it, but it looks decent to me... :hmm:

Typically with hostels you pay when you arrive. Some may require a really small deposit. I don't remember if the YHA hostel requires a deposit, but even if it does it won't be more than 3-4 pounds. I have stayed there and it is lovely, very clean, great atmosphere, and the staff is wonderful. The location might look a bit remote if you look at a map, but it really is a walking distance from the centre where St John's is (the big shopping centre just off Lime street).
I haven't stayed at the International Inn so I can't help you there.

There are hotels and motels in the US, Colin - they're quite different, especially in terms of location and quality.

Most UK hotels aren't like US motels, apart from places like the kind of Travelodge-type places which can be found by UK motorways (freeways).
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

I've never stayed in a hotel in the UK that I would compare to a US motel. Haven't stayed in one of those in years. My parents always had us in motels when I was a kid.

i have stayed in hotels, motels and hostels here in the states and in the UK

hotels that i have stayed in while in the uk are like the hotels here........like the meridian, marriots etc..........nice high rises, in the middle of london or amsterdam or other big cities...........up on the 17th floor, nice view out a window that doesnt open and things like towel warmers in the bathroom and tvs with lots of channels

most motels in the uk in my experience and in most of europe though are not so much like our hotels here, usually they are more like a bed and breakfast that is a fairly big bed and breakfast...........usually only a few floors with about 10-30 rooms some with one bed, two twin beds or one double bed..........i have a difficult time finding kind size beds in europe........bathroom ensuite is always nice but not necessarily large..a shower, sink and toilet in a closet size room is considered more than adequate by european standards but once again, there is always that towel warmer (unheard of here in the states) oh and just cuz the name says motel, doesnt mean there is somewhere to park your car
hostels are pretty much hostels everywhere but classier in europe...........toilet and shower is down the hall and shared, sometimes male and female is distinguished but not always..... europe is much freer about things like that than here in the states.........room is dormitory style and you dont have much privacy, but for sleeping only, and if going solo or with a group and you dont care about having any nookie at night, they are a great way to go...........you get to meet folks, local folks, regular folks and face it, you are sleeping together, you get to talk.......

kind of like going to mexico and riding on the city bus..........that is where all the flavor and fun is........and it is cheap

I now have my flight reservation. Checked last night and it was $500 cheaper than last week, so I booked it. So now I have a flight and a hotel in Liverpool.

I've never stayed in a high rise hotel in the UK. The hotels I have stayed in usually had four or five floors. Of course, I've never stayed in a Marriott either. ;)

I think I know where I will be staying in London and will get that booked when I get paid Friday. I'm paying for this as I go along--except for the Liverpool hotel.

Next will be the Edinburgh hotel. Gotta figure out dates before I book the London hotel. I will be there when I first arrive in London and then again before I leave London for the US.

Linda, my lovely, we must collaborate!! ^_^ I shall be in Liverpool of course and thought we can travel to London together...and then spend 2 days there of course.

i have stayed in hotels, motels and hostels here in the states and in the UK

hotels that i have stayed in while in the uk are like the hotels here........like the meridian, marriots etc..........nice high rises, in the middle of london or amsterdam or other big cities...........up on the 17th floor, nice view out a window that doesnt open and things like towel warmers in the bathroom and tvs with lots of channels

most motels in the uk in my experience and in most of europe though are not so much like our hotels here, usually they are more like a bed and breakfast that is a fairly big bed and breakfast...........usually only a few floors with about 10-30 rooms some with one bed, two twin beds or one double bed..........i have a difficult time finding kind size beds in europe........bathroom ensuite is always nice but not necessarily large..a shower, sink and toilet in a closet size room is considered more than adequate by european standards but once again, there is always that towel warmer (unheard of here in the states) oh and just cuz the name says motel, doesnt mean there is somewhere to park your car
hostels are pretty much hostels everywhere but classier in europe...........toilet and shower is down the hall and shared, sometimes male and female is distinguished but not always..... europe is much freer about things like that than here in the states.........room is dormitory style and you dont have much privacy, but for sleeping only, and if going solo or with a group and you dont care about having any nookie at night, they are a great way to go...........you get to meet folks, local folks, regular folks and face it, you are sleeping together, you get to talk.......

kind of like going to mexico and riding on the city bus..........that is where all the flavor and fun is........and it is cheap

Well I think Ifinally got it straightened out!! Thanks for this! My head was spinning and I guess part of that has to do with the differences in some language terminologies (like what is the difference between an "en-suite" and "private" bathroom; is a "double" a room for two people or a double bed?) And I kept reading HOTELS instead of HOSTELS.

You rock, girl! :boogie:

Do you know WHERE the MMT actually takes you? I know it leaves you off at the Cavern Club...but what sites does it stop at?

The MMT goes by all four of the boys childhood homes. You can get out at George and Paul's but not go in. It drives by the church where they met, penny lane, strawberry fields (photo stop) LIPA and that's all I remember. It was great. The tour guides claim to have gone to school with them and have little stories to tell. If I forgot something, someone please fill in my blanks.

Ok, this is what the Tour 'details' says...

Inside the 08 Place, Whitechapel Road
George Harrison House
Strawberry Field
Forthlin Road
Penny Lane
Cavern Club

This 2 hour tour visits many of the places associated with John, Paul, George and Ringo as they grew up, met and formed the band that would take the pop world by storm. It stops to let you take a closer look at some of their childhood homes and places that inspired their most memorable songs like Penny Lane and Strawberry Field. Make sure you bring your camera to record the places you’ll want to remember on this magical tour.

:)

in 2 hours they take you there   flippin eck that is expensive especially when you wont be able to stop at alot of the places (ie the church, mendips etc)

when I took Dani and Tony on their MMT's it took a good 5/6 hours and we stopped at loads of places and even went other places the bus doesn't go too. Knowing the size of the MMT bus AND where Strawberry Fields gates are I'd love to know were it stops because the road is very narrow were they are :hmm:

I do not want to put people off the MMT but in my eyes (and I don't know if Dani and Tony would agree with me or not) it just seems like not enough time to see things you have only read or seen on TV :hmm:

I agree, Jayne, but unfortunately you cannot be everyones personal guide! ^_^

I'm also doing the National Trust Tour...so I will get inside Paul and Johns houses.

If you don't know how to get to all these places it is an excellent way to see some of the most important sights in a short amount of time. We drove past the street in the Dingle that Ringo grew up on, I wished they would have stopped. AT Strawberry Fields they parked right by the gate, we were able to get out and take pictures. They even stopped because someone wanted to take a pic of the Penny Lane sign. I'm sure it doesn't compare to a personal tour, especially by our Jayney but it's good if it's all you got.

I just can't seem to catch a break. Things aren't going well at work -- I could write a novel about that! -- and I just spent a small fortune that I didn't have on dental work, and the problem still isn't resolved.

I haven't told my bosses that I want to take a week's vacation at the peak of our busy season. I have a feeling that that may be the straw that breaks the camel's back, but if I don't take the trip, I think I may break. After everything I've been through in the past year, I really need to make this trip! :(

Why?

Jayne, the feeling is mutual. As much as I would love to see Paul perform in his hometown and tour all the sights, I'm most excited about the prospect of getting to meet you and all the other SF family members that I've talked to for ages.

I'll be in touch soon. I'm off to my job right now. Be back on this evening.
