Thanks.  ^_^

Are you going to do either of these tours, or haven't made up your mind yet?

I have no idea what to do, I'm kinda just going to tag along with what everyone else does...I already booked the tixs for the tour of the childhood homes with Jayne.

I haven't made up my mind yet. I for sure am doing the MMT (yellow van to the 2 homes); right now it's scheduled for May 30th but I'm trying to change it....

The MMT is a big yellow bus that takes you to and past many Beatle attractions but you do not get to go inside any of them on this tour. The tour that allows you into the childhood homes is the National Trust Tour.

Thanks for the correction; I am signed up for the Nat'l Trust Tour (yellow van)!

well just come back from Liddypool and what a good concert :yahoo:

you all never heard me screaming because Paul never showed up  but it started at 7.30pm and only finished at 11.15pm :o

top artists for me were Gerry Marsden, Dr & the Medics, The Farm, and the Scaffold (at least we had 1 McCartney on stage ) AND if the Scaffold don't release '3 shirts on a line' (in the tune of 3 lions on a shirt) then I will be totally disappointed because it was fab :yahoo:

Met up with Dani again and also Lauren

Dani says hello again to everyone and she will be back online Sunday night to catch up ;) she also told me I cant post much tonight because I'm near my 11,000th post and she wants to celebrate it with me lol :P :P

I've booked the National Trust Tour to Forthlin Road and Mendips, as well as the MMT.

I've been to the Beatles Story several times and unless there is something new, I won't be going there.

they are doin it up Linda for a big opening in Spring ;) now if you contacted my friend he can include the Beatles story as part of his tour ;)

Jayne...
What tour is your friend doing? Somehow I missed this...

I am debating whether to take the witches to Anfield now or not :hmm: both of them were bored and always wanting to go the toilet more than anythin (thank god i'll have seats in June though :hmm:) they did say they enjoyed the concert but I think they said it because I said to them I werent taking them to see Paul ^_^ I will just have to see in the next few months

I couldn't get into Liverpool earlier than before the concert due to folks taking witches out shopping :hmm: met Dani before it and then Lauren met us just before concert started. Briefly met them both outside afterwards. Dani is goin to tell you all how they are angels :innocent: I think not

well so for those of you who weren't aware or dont care, I was in Liverpool this week and this is where I am going to bore you with the details of my trip so if you cannot be arsed, stop reading ;)

I arrived last Friday for the rooftop event.Wondered around aimlessly for a bit and ditched my bags at the yha and then wondered around watching the setting up and some practising of the event.I was at the front on the barriers btw, a few other people were scattered around. Some people had actually come from Canada just for that night, couldnt believe it.They got on the local news, I was asked to say a few things on it but the woman's time got cut so apparently someone coming from Scotland wasn't as impressive as someone coming from Canada :o  - The madness of it all. Anyway so at roughly 20:08 (you see what they did there :P )the party began, some of it was very strange but mostly it was very cool. The wombats played I'm moving to New York and then Ringo came on and did Liverpool 8- Coz I'm a loser I went and hung about the door to watch him leave. He was very close to me and Barb was about too. He didnt seem to interest in saying hello though but oh well, then I headed back to the youth hostel

Saturday- Because I am so cultured likes :D I went to the Albert Docks and went to the Liverpool Tate and saw the Turner Prize thing, was interesting, some was utter shite but never mind, then I did the magical history tour and the maritime museum along with the slavery one before heading to meet Lauren, wewent and got some lunch at the grapes (I feel as though I had move in by the end of the week). Colin came and met us there and we had a drink and then he suffered getting dragged around Beatles shops with us and then we all went to visit(or annoy) George (LIPA) at LIPA, funnily enough- Better say he is a lovely guy haha He showed us some of Linda's photos which are hanging up there and then we saw the auditorium which was cool. Then we left George to do some work and Colin left too, and me and Lauren headed for the arena to see the opening thing. I bought a programmed.I frowned when I saw they were £15 and then the girl laughed because of the whole Scottish thing, she said she'd worked at t in the park and us scots dont like parting with our money
Anyway.I thought the majority of it was good, there was the odd shite part but oh well, when Ringo came on there was a huge cheer. I got a few ok pics on my phone, gutted he only did 2 songs and Power to the people ended that all off. btw its a bloody good venue

Sunday- Spent the day with Lauren doing the museums again but around the centre this time, there is a thing of Beatles photos on there just now (only on until March which I went and saw again,I had already seen them coz it was first shown at Dundee uni. We also went and visited George again at work and then Lauren had to go back down to London so I got peace and quiet for a while

I got to meet Jayne and the little angels (why they are witches I dunno- although getting beaten up by a 9 year old  )on Monday I was running a bit late coz I went and saw the wombats do an instore signing/set in HMV. It was rather good then I ran to go meet them.It was very nice and I got taken on a mini tour in the dark which was kind of funky and then we went our seperate ways

On Tuesday I spent far to much time and money in The Beatles shop

And Wednesday was my tour with Jayne and the highlight- well the St Helens ground of course  I took photos and everything,I even said nothing matters anymore, stuff the beatles.I've seen it all now :P She then took me to her fave place- Anfield :D and we had lunch (I did not help Scotland's image that day :innocent:  ) so we did all the Beatley things, Eleanor Rigby's grave, John and Paul's house's, the airport (as close as you can get anyway) strawberry Fields,Penny Lane and a few other things. Was a very cool day We also went along a number of roads which were possible places for Bread to be filmed  then she got rid of me

I then went to the library on Thursday and saw this Beatles thing, all about the boys coming back to Liverpool for the AHDN prem, it was cool, some video footage, pictures and newspaper clippings of the even and letters organising the event. In the nighttime I went to the cavern and saw the Mersey Beatles who were amazing (even better coz it was free). That was pretty cool

Lauren reappeared on Friday and we went to the cinema and saw Walk Hard, it was ok, then went to annoy George briefly at work and went to the cathedral to see what thats like, saw the red phone box in there, we then went to the cavern for a bit before heading back up to see George (I even offered to by him a drink- and he never got it- seriously dont miss these once in a lifetime opportunities  )

Saturday, was the day of the number 1's thing,so met up with Jayne and the angels just after 5pm, then eventually we headed over to the venue, I threatened to throw youngest angel into the Mersey :P (on several occasions) The programme was a lot cheaper this time which pleased me even if I did manage to drop it in a sink  I found people who I met in the Paris que which was quite funny coz we didnt even have any contact details but that was cool and then I went and sat down near a bunch of chatty Scouser's who were cool and very nice to me, although freaked me out when one of them yelled to me 'makes you want to be scouse' when Gerry Marsden was playing Ferry cross the Mersey (no it really didnt,us Scots have our songs too :D ) Was a tad gutted Paul didnt appear but quite nice when Mike mentioned him. The Scaffold were good. 3 shirts on a line was def better than the original more because you sure as hell wouldnt have caught me singing along to that for nothing
Some very odd versions of Beatles classics which scared me, but Hey Jude was pretty cool and naturally had everyone going, bloody classic

Anyways was a good night and a good week, I had loads of fun whether I was wondering around on my own or chatting with these lovely boardies (great meeting Jayne, George and Colin) or other people I met on my journey and I cannae wait till next time

And I've booked the yha again for June. There for the weekend, although looks like I'm stuck in a room with Lauren, if you hear screams.......

I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...

Quote:

IT was the night when Liverpool’s stars shared the stage in a whistlestop celebration of the city’s music history.

In a unique and eclectic salute to Liverpool’s five decades at the top of the charts, bands from across the spectrum united at the ECHO Arena in a night of musical solidarity.

Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton got it rolling with a rocked-up version of You’re My World, before handing over to teenage crooner Ray Quinn with The Real Thing’s You To Me Are Everything.

Digsy’s band The Sums played a blistering version of Paperback Writer, and Ian McNabb showed off his superb voice with Woman and Love is Such a Wonderful Colour.

Amsterdam brought their magic to The Searchers’ Don’t Throw Your Love Away and their own Does This Train Stop on Merseyside.

Bringing the first half to a boisterous climax, 60s legends the Scaffold delighted the audience with a sing-along version of Lily the Pink.

They were joined onstage by the rest of the acts for a re-written version of The Lightning Seeds’ Three Lions.

“It’s like a big party,” said The Scaffold’s John Gorman.

“It takes a Liverpool audience to get a feeling like that. It was wonderful, just wonderful.”

Mike McCartney said: “To play the arena was great.

“Liverpool has needed something like this for years. Looking out across that crowd was fantastic.”

Highlights of the second half included Thea Gilmore’s radical reworking of Dead or Alive’s You Spin Me, Shack’s more faithful rendition of Day Tripper and The Real People’s Hey Jude which brought the capacity crowd to their feet.

“It’s time to pay tribute to the legendary poet Burns – Pete Burns,” said Thea. “I’ve always wanted to cover that song. When it came out I was seven, but I’ve always loved it. To play it here in Liverpool, as an adopted Scouser, was amazing. The crowd were great, completely up for it. What a fantastic night.”

John Head said of his version of Day Tripper: “When we got round to choosing our song there were only two left – that and How Much is That Doggy in the Window. I think we made the right choice. I loved it.”

After her first-class performances at last week’s opening ceremony, blues star Connie Lush was back in fine voice for an outstanding collaboration with Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Nasher to sing The Power of Love.

Atomic Kitten had the crowd up and dancing with the Number One Project single, a cover of Cilla’s Anyone Who Had a Heart, and their number ones The Tide is High and Whole Again.

“I was so nervous,” said Jenny Frost. “But it was great being back with the girls. We’ve had such a good time.

“There were so many great acts on. We were having a bit of a dance backstage to them all. It’s been such a good atmosphere.”

Returning to the arena for the third time in as many weeks, The Farm had everyone up on their feet again for their cover of The Searchers’ Needles and Pins and a rousing rendition of All Together Now.

After 15 years without playing their hometown it was an exhilarating night for the band, who were joined on stage by their children.

“It’s been great,” said singer Peter Hooton. “It’s like the biggest cabaret you’ve ever seen - crossed with a weird dream. Where else would you get these acts on the same stage? But that’s what I love about it. You’ve got acts from different generations getting together and having a big party onstage. Fantastic.”

The last word went to the elder statesman of the Liverpool music scene, Gerry Marsden, who brought the night to a close with How Do You Do It, Ferry Cross the Mersey and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

“I’ve had great fun,” he said after the show.

“It’s been great to perform with acts from all different eras and genres.

“And best of all, it’s to support local charities. I always think I’ve been so lucky in my life, and to have a chance to give something back to the people of Merseyside, the people who bought my records and who got me to number one in the first place, it’s an absolute pleasure.

“This has been Liverpool’s night, the people’s night. And Ferry Across the Mersey is the people’s anthem.”

Co-organiser John Ritchie said: “I looked out as Gerry was on, and to see 10,000 people on their feet dancing took my breath away. I’ve been amazed and delighted by the musicians who have given their time to make this dream a reality.

“To see them on the same stage in the new ECHO Arena with the crowd singing along, it’s something I’ll never forget.”

Kitten single the Heart and soul of city’s Number One project

THE countdown has begun to Liverpool’s 57th Number One single.

As part of the Number One Project, a unique celebration of Liverpool’s musical heritage, multi- platinum selling girl band Atomic Kitten have re-recorded Cilla Black’s classic number one song Anyone Who Had a Heart.

Their aim is to get Liverpool’s first number one of 2008.

All proceeds will go to Merseyside charities.

Atomic Kitten’s Natasha Hamilton said: “We’re so proud to be a Liverpool band and we’d love to get another number one for our hometown.

“Plus it’s raising money for some great causes.

“The single costs pennies. It’s 79p to download. But for every person that buys it we get closer to Liverpool’s 57th number one.

“We want to keep Liverpool at the top. We need to make sure Detroit doesn’t beat us to it. They’ve got Motown. But we’ve got so much more.

“And we want to make sure Liverpool stays at the top.”

The single will be available as a download only on all major platforms from Sunday.

We’ll be counting down to the big day when Liverpool keeps its fingers crossed for its 57th number one hit.

Or perhaps, following revelations at the Number One Project concert on Saturday, it could be the 58th or 59th chart-topper. Dr and the Medics and Carol Decker, who had number one hits with Spirit in the Sky and China in Your Hand, both have links to the city.

The single will be followed by an album packed with some of Merseyside’s greatest number ones, re-recorded and re-worked by some of the biggest names on the Liverpool music scene.

The Number One Project aims to raise £1m for six Merseyside charities, including the ECHO’s Liverpool Unites.

It began in spectacular style with the star-studded concert at the ECHO Arena on Saturday.

The album will be released on February 4 and Atomic Kitten's Anyone Who Had A Heart is out on January 27.

FOR more information on the project, artists and tracks go to www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/numberoneproject, www.myspace.com/thenumberoneproject and www.thenumberoneproject.

You do a good tour, thats for sure!. However one must wonder about your descriptions and the accuracy of them. After all when you call those angels "witches" it is so off.

go to train times and ticket prices  just put in where you want to leave and go to ;)

It's too far in advance (june) to get a price or schedule...so...do you know if there is a direct train from Liv to Edinburgh and how long of a trip is it?

its normally not until 3 months before that you can book for the trains and yes there is normally 1 change but that will be alright and relatively straight forward- if I can do it anyone can  It takes about 3 and a half hours- 4 hours I guess long with the change

Another "Scottish" question:

I've been looking at Bed and Breakfasts in Edinburgh. I've noticed they say "ensuite" in regards to the bathrooms.

When I've emailed them asking what that means, they said the bathroom is in the room. So, does that mean the toilet, sink and tub are in the room with no privacy? What's the difference between a "private" bath and "ensuite?"

Questions....questions... :P

well there will be a door between the room and bathroom, so it allows greater privacy

erm not a lot really, just been sarcastically saying 'is this close to coming back' and also his interview on Jonathan Ross was questionable towards his attitude towards Liverpool. This is where we need George(LIPA) on here, he aint happy with how Ringo has been about Liverpool

hey heidi, maybe you and i can find a language class that will teach us how to talk merseyside or something like that..........

else we can just say we are from california and have no idea what they are talking about

and as far as the train goes, the train system works practically everywhere in the world except the west coast works and works well. tis usually the cheapest and the easiest way to go anywhere. it is dependable and the public transportation systems that connect ( trams tubes and busses ) work so well that you would never need a car unless you really want one...........
i also am planning on going to edinburgh via train as am probably flying into london and taking the train into liverpool but not absolutely sure yet. have rented the car and driven from london to the highlands and enjoyed the drive but boy is it expensive

Audrey,
I'm flying into London from San Fran on Fri May 23rd; will spend 6 days in that area.

Then I'll probably take the train to Liverpool on either May 29th or 30th; will spend 3 days there.

Will leave Liverpool on Monday June 2nd for Edinburgh; will spend 3-1/2 days in Scotland.

Then leave Edinburgh on Fri June 6 to fly back home. :hmm:

I wish I had more time...I'd love to see Ireland but that'll be the next trip.... ;)

Thought you'd never ask... :P

Since I have 3-1/2 days...here's what I thought I'd do (so far):

1-1/2 days in Edinburgh (the half day is the day that I'm getting there from Liverpool; thought about doing some kind of "ghost" or night tour...any suggestions?) that day.

I then have 2 full days left: I was thinking of taking one of those minivan tours given by Rabbie's, Timberbush, or Heart of Scotland Tours.

They offer day trips:

Loch Lomond, the Trossachs & Stirling Castle
Loch Ness, Glencoe & the Highlands
West Highland Lochs & Castles

Since I can only choose 2, I thought I'd probably pick the first two. What do you think?

I have actually been on one of the Rabbie's tours and it was quite good, yeah they are normally worth it because there are quite a few good tour guides in Scotland (I had best say that coz I know a couple  ), yup if you are gonna do one of the ghost tours def better doing it at night, its a lot more fun. There is a few different companies that do them, I have only been on the Auld Reekie ghost tour which is good (I was being a cheeky cow on that tour coz I was the only Scot as I took a bunch of my English mates on it, anyway the guide got me to play a witch in her reanactment of it all,fun times and a very long story) but one of my tour guide mates said the Mercat ones were better.
The Mary King's Close is also alright to have a wee look at, its kind of going under the Royal Mile slightly so you see what it was like to live in the city a few centuries back.I went there with a bunch of mates some of whom were really scared.

hmmm I'm not to sure about which ones. The first two are prob the most popular really because they are the most well known and more touristy aimed, the western coast tends not to be explored as much but thats sometimes because everyone wants to see Loch Lomond and the trossachs or Loch Ness, but they are all worthwhile so whatever you decide you wont be disapointed.

erm out of all of them I'd be less inclined to do the dungeons, whilst they are good they are also kind of more obviously geared up to impress the tourists, its kind of a bit more played up than other tours,

Heres some links

http://www.realmarykingsclose.com/
http://www.auldreekietours.com/
http://www.mercattours.com/home.asp

For the later 2 there are a selection of different times of tours you can do, things like the voults and stuff that takes you underground are more advised because its the only oportunity to do it

You won't get there without a car (unless you've got a helicopter of course). It doesn't look far but it's about 100 miles from Oban from what I remember. It will take a lot of time out of your schedule.

Has to be worth it for completist Macca nutters (like me  ), but there's not really a lot to see. Just nice to sit amongst the heather and feel the atmosphere. We tried to dig up a bit of heather to bring home. We didn't have any tools or a pot to put it in, so it died unfortunately

Sing the Changes
May I ask for recommendations for some safe B & Bs in central London and Edinburgh. Near a tube station in London.

Thanks.

Just to offically let you know, I won't be doing Liverpool this year. I had been thinking hard about it, but I need to take baby steps with the flying, so my biggest goal will be to take a short plane ride to L.A. I won't see Paul there, but maybe I'll see Bev, MaryAnn or Cathy - maybe they'll sing to me!

I hope and pray Paul will come here.....for me and Judy!

I agree with you Barb. I haven't flown since 1993 and I was terrified but we had to be at a funeral on Vail. I too will have to start with shorter flights.

My fear began in 1987 when a UNITED AIRLINES, flying a 747, did a touch and go at O'hare airport. Our plane touched down and all of a sudden the pilot hit the handle and the plane took off with full force because another plane was on our run way. Bless the pilot for not snoozing, we could have all been dead. Ever since then, flying is never on my list of things to do.

PEACE and love to my friends, Judy

1977 here....pathetic, isn't it? I can't blame you, Judy. But there are plenty of us non-flyers, so we are in good company, Judy. I do, however, want to overcome this irrational fear as it is very limiting and keeps me from doing some things I love - like seing Paul in Liverpool.

My only other rationalization is that I'll have more money when he comes to the states this year! And now that he is healthier than reported, I'm sure he'll do just that!

See you at a concert soon, Judy!

I will try and book the same day as you for the MMT.

Linda, have you ever done the MMT before?

So I have finished my drawing for the concert. It has a grand total of (drum roll please) 24 albums on a 9x12i inch paper. I'm very happy with the way it came out. I hope you all like it. :sweet:

Audrey,
I'm flying into London from San Fran on Fri May 23rd; will spend 6 days in that area.

:hmm:

I wish I had more time...I'd love to see Ireland but that'll be the next trip.... ;)

ok, am not sure of anything yet, so these are really loose plans that may change drastically but, if bruce comes with, we definitely wont be doing the pitch thing but the seat thing.............
so fly out on the 27th land on the 28th in london, do the sights briefly with bruce, some of the beatles stuff and breakfast on friday where paul eats often on friday.......after that go to l'pool.... about on the 30th, then do that city, see what i want to see and then on the 2nd go up to edinburgh...... as i said before i have friends in the highlands may go for a night or two to see, they live up by the castles and whiskey distilleries and so that is a lovely place to visit.......no heather yet that time of year, but kilts are about everywhere you go.........

me i am from the clan munro...............have our tartan in many items from my dads side of the family
including entire childs outfit, cashmere scarf and socks!!!

Me...I'm Irish. Almost one half. But I would love to visit Scotland. My aunt went last year to Ireland and Scotland. She got more into Ireland (I think she chose to). But she loved both countries. ^_^
