I still have no idea what I'm doing there apart from the Friday and 2 Saturdays. I think I'm just gonna blag the week but it will be fun.

I gotta get you your haggis as well Jayne

have you decided where you will be staying ??

because you are there for the full week you could get saveaways each day and visit different parts of Merseyside (or I can pick you up after work some days and take you various places)

cool thanks Jayne. Should have booked earlier for the 19th.Looks like everyone is coming that weekend

and blag means to get through or talk about things without actually having a clue, sort of making it up as you go along and hope for the best I guess

PM on way ;)

Things for Dani to do in Merseyside

1. meet me and the witches
2. meet George and Colin too
3. go round the place
4. eat
5. drink
6. be merry
7. ermmmmmm come on Jayne be serious now :duh:

1. Go to the docks, get one of them cards (see previous page) and go in the beatles story for free and all the other places they have on offer but I don't recommend going to that place called shitefield unless you have got a bottle of disinfectant with you and yes I've got my supply ready for everyone in June ;) :P
2. getting a saveaway is a good idea to get around - get an all zone one and you could go to the seaside for the day and travel to Southport and/or get off at freshfields and around the corner from the station is the red squirrel place
3. Goto Woolton and visit the church and try and find Eleanor Rigby's grave
4. Visit strawberry fields gates
5. see the houses
6. Take the ferry across the mersey (saveaway card includes trip on there)
7. Over on the Wirral there is some good places like blue planet aquarium and cheshire oaks shopping is fantastic there lol :P

any more suggestions I'll get back to ya ;)

saveaway cards can be bought at the main bus station in city centre they cost £4.30 for an ALL ZONE card saveaway information

Quote:

Saveaways are cheap, one-day tickets that you can use for travel on buses, trains and ferries in Merseyside after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.
The `All Area` ticket now extends to the Whole of Merseyside - as far as Chester, Ellesmere Port and Ormskirk (by rail only).

Just been reading up about that other card - got updated details now

free beatle story entry amongst other things - updated !

to go to Forthlin Road you would need a bus going to Allerton - remember though just near there is Penny Lane ;) I think Colin might be able to give you exact bus route - I just drive there lol :P

like said though you can go quite a bit on the saveaway - they have even included Chester in it now so you could go to the city centre there which as got Roman Walls and some lovely tudor buildings

I might see if I can get a day or afternoon off work - or possibly might have to have a sudden meeting in Liverpool to attend too

At 20:08 on Friday, January 11 2008, artists, people of the city and the world's media will gather in and around St George’s plateau for an astounding open-air performance.

The People's Opening will see Liverpool’s amazing architecture transformed into a magnificent stage; an extraordinary performance from the rooftops surrounding the plateau and the steps of St George’s Hall.

The following night, Saturday 12 January 2008, Liverpool – The Musical will open the new 10,000 seat Echo Arena.

The performance will celebrate both the past and future of Liverpool with the re-invention of many classical songs that have helped make the city the centre of the musical universe.

Featuring a once-in-a-lifetime cast, including Vasily Petrenko, Ringo Starr, Dave Stewart, No Fakin Djs alongside poets, aerialists, comedians, sailors and much more… probably the most unusual line-up ever to set foot on one stage.

Thanks, hon...I already pm'd her with the info. :)

So far the only plans I have is the National Trust Tour on FRIDAY (same time as Linda). I can spend the rest of the day touring Liverpool on that same day, which leaves me open on Saturday!

Going to Scotland....I got an email from a friend who spent three weeks there and I asked her what to do; here's what she said:

It's really tough to narrow down our favorite places, but I'll give it a
shot.

Edinburgh:
Between the big towns, Edinburgh and Glasgow, we preferred
Edinburgh. It was a little more "touristy", but also seemed way more
friendly to us, plus they have the castle with the crown jewels. (A note
about castles in Scotland: the ones that you pay to get into are made
to be museum-like, but I found them a little Disneyland-ish with talking
mannequins and the like. Not that it was bad, just not what I was
expecting. It was actually quite comical). We enjoyed all of Old Town,
but didn't stray too far into New Town. It's a bit more high-end
shopping, which isn't our style. We stayed at the Bank Hotel, which is
right on the Royal Mile in Old Town (very convenient), though it was a
little noisy on Saturday night. (We spent 2-3 days here)

Stirling:
(We did Stirling in one day) If you see one castle in Scotland, make
it Stirling Castle. Even though Edinburgh has the crown jewels, we
really enjoyed walking through Stirling castle. ( I believe if you are
going to go to both, you can save money buying a special ticket at
either castle...I wish we would have). Also in Stirling is the Wallace
monument, which was a gorgeous hike, but they have a tram up the hill as
well, and the Bannockburn Heritage center.

Drymen/Loch Lomond:
I think everywhere else I've suggested you can get to by train, but
if you are going to rent a car (and Chris thinks you absolutely must,
just for the fun of it) the Loch Lomond area was gorgeous, and very
close to Stirling and Glasgow. Also, in the village of Drymen, there is
a pub/restaurant called the Clachan which is the oldest registered pub
in Great Brittain. It is there that we had wonderful haggis topped
steak. Haggis is actually very tasty, I promise. While in this area,
we stayed at a B&B called Green Shadows, overlooking the Buchanan Golf
course.

St. Andrews:
(We went for a day trip) We really enjoyed St. Andrews for its
Protestant Reformation history, plus it's a beautiful little sea town.
Also there is the St. Andrews golf club, where golf was invented. I
think you can play there, though I'm sure it's expensive.

Isle of Skye:
(We stayed two days, but probably could have been fine with one)
The island was different from anything else we saw in Scotland, plus you
travel through the highlands to get there. If you drive, we suggest
going by way of the Skye Bridge instead of the ferry. The bridge is
free, and you will go by Eilean Donan Castle on the mainland. On the
island, Dunvegan castle is spectacular, especially the gardens. We were
amazed at how many tropical-looking plants they managed to grow.

I really hope that doesn't overwhelm you. Really, all of Scotland is
beautiful so wherever you go will be great

Any input from you Scots out there would be appreciated!!

So far the only plans I have is the National Trust Tour on FRIDAY (same time as Linda).  I can spend the rest of the day touring Liverpool on that same day, which leaves me open on Saturday!

Is that the house tour or the sightseeing tour?

I'm on one of those with Linda, too I think. B)
What a long, strange trip it's been....

erm yeah I pretty much agree with all of that I think.Pretty good overview really.

Stirling is doable in a day and is worth it. The castle is good and is better than Edinburgh castle slightly although they were pretty much supposed to be doubles so there are loads of similarties. Near Stirling is Bannockburn where us Scots kicked some English butt in 1314  which can be worth a look. Also the Wallace Monument is just on the outside of Stirling and once you reach the top of it you gt some rather good views

Edinburgh is a lot more accomodating to tourists than Glasgow but I think Glasgow is generally better for the shopping and culture/artsy type things unless you visit the rough areas where you step into ned terrotary.
New town is really pretty much like anyother city in the UK but you can find some really interesting places on the outskirts. So much to see in Edinburgh, the castle, scottish parliament, holyrood, royal mile and much much more.

St Andrews is a nice place to visit. They do some really good ice cream there as well

and er yes even though I am veggie now haggis is rather tasty (thank christ there is a veggie alternative) and battered mars bar is always worth a try, tablet and so on are also nice.

So much to do and see really and those places mentioned are just the tip of it.There is loads of other stuff not as touristy or well known but depends what you are after for your first visit to Scotland.

There seems to be quite of few of you looking to visit Scotland which is good :D
If anyone needs any info about Scotland, then yell coz I am more than happy to bore you with it

when do you come over and leave ??

Can't remember the dates now, (and I don't have tickets yet) -- but I am planning to arrive in Manchester on Thursday morning and leave on Tuesday.

Quick trip, I know... but I can't get all that time off from work right then.

Too bad Paulie couldn't wait until my birthday (28 June) -- then I'd have all the time in the world because School holidays start on June 12 I think.
What a long, strange trip it's been....
