I'm doing an opinion piece for Modern History on the Political Ideology, Liberalism. So I thought here would be a good place to start, I know a few of you are quite opinionated when it comes to Politics and the like; I was wondering what your opinions are, anything you feel you need to say in regards to Liberalism.

I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine.

I have yet to see the term properly defined. My own view is that it exists only as a relative term.

We often laugh about the fact that the Australian conservative party call themselves the Liberal Party. But when you look at how the party was founded, the Party that Menzies started was a very liberal thinking party.... as conservative parties go. Of course, it has now drifted from the liberal side of conservatism to the right wing of conservatism, yet still advocates policies that are considered radically liberal in America - like universal health care. Mind you, I suspect they only advocate it because the know it would be electoral suicide if they didn't.

If it were me writing the essay, I would argue that there's no such thing.

According to American television liberals in my nation are conservative, conservatives are terrorists and ultra-conservatives think of nothing but your immediate death.

Pretty much how Fox News thinks of us liberals here in the US.

Liberalism = Libertarian = Libertine ? Are they one and the same thing and if not, why not.

As a political theology well of course you start with the Whig party which gradually transformed in the Liberal party which then spread across the globe.

no, incorrect go to the bottom of the class.

I have never did my neice's essays for her "A" level history nor for her degree, indeed the last two phone calls from the little madam were all about her dissertation for her final year. I give out questions thereby encouraging her to think and from that thought process maybe an angle from which to proceed.

As had already been pointed Liberalism is relative to the country you inhabit. As it is in political ideology, you start with defining what it is you are discussing and the origins of that idealogy.

If you are referring to someone who is always in the news but who's music if you wish to call it that, i have never heard a full song by the idiot, though at school we were made to read poems by a drug user of clossal proportions who was most cerytainly a Libertine.

Such a subjective thing and really a b*tch to define. There are so many different ways at looking at liberalism

If you look at it in terms of how the world has changed over the last 50 years you can easily argue that we (Western civilisation) have become more liberal and progressive.

I think its important to try and compare how realism and liberalism works together or against one another.

I always think of it as the alternative.
I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...

I know thats the annoying things about Politics. There is so much to define and it will always be subjective. What one person says well always be different to what the person next to them says

Absolutely. In fact, it should be pointed out that Emilee's question comes from New South Wales which means it could be regarding the Liberal Party, which has far more in common with the British Conservative Party than any classical definition of liberal and that could change the answer completely.

Interesting...
