Guess having only Dubya as your backer was not enough to keep him in office. Now let's see who we get.

He's been dead on his feet for months.

The announcement finally comes in the same week as the Katrina anniversary, the Diana anniversary, and the Daily Show in recess.

Talk about take-out-the-trash day!

If I didn't already know how open and accountable they were, I might just think they were trying to bury the story.

Hah, I thought of that too! :D I suspect however that all the writers aren't on holiday - and my guess is they're probably going to do something special to cover it when they come back given the extra time to prepare.

Bill Maher is back on the air, though.

Let me see, one jackass down=two more to go.

Apparently Tony Snow may be thinking of leaving, too. He's the only intelligent person left in the adminstration. At least he can talk and knows how to put a good spin on things.

Tony Snow said he'd be going when the money runs out. I know he has health concerns but you have to wonder what's going on if he can't make ends meet on $180k!

Haha, glad I'm not the only one who thought that! :D Well, I can't say Gonzales is much of a loss. I only hope we get someone a little more - what's the word? - oh yeah, competent. I get so used to placing the in- prefix on that word, I sometimes forget that you can use the plain form as well.

Well, let's keep some perspective....

People thought "ding dong, the witch is dead" when Ashcroft left. We now know that for all his nutiness (covering the breasts on statues, awful singing), he was like some kind of white knight compared to what happened next. So there's no assuming that the worst is over.

Also, fans of irony will love Bush's statement:
"It’s sad that we live in a time when a talented and honourable person.... is impeded from doing important work because his good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons."

You think??

How does he keep a straight face?

I may be mistaken, but I thought Tony Snow is resigning as of August 31. I will have to look that one up after work.

Can't find where Tony Snow has given a date, but looks like he's leaving.

Tony Snow Signals His Resignation, Plus ‘A Couple’ More ‘Coming Up In The Next Month’

After the recent resignation of Karl Rove, media outlets speculated on what the rest of President Bush’s term will look like without “the Architect.” The President is “fighting lame duck status,” reported the AP. In response, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow shot back: “As the president has said many times, he’s going to sprint to the tape.”

But even Tony Snow doesn’t want to be around for that sprint. In an interview with the conservative Hugh Hewitt show, Snow signaled that he will not stay until the end of the term. He also mentioned that there are “probably a couple” of other high-level resignations “coming up in the next month or so.”

HEWITT: Are there any other resignations upcoming, Tony Snow?

SNOW: I think that probably…as Josh said the other day, he thinks there are probably a couple coming up in the next month or so. […]

HEWITT: Your intention to go the distance, Tony Snow?

SNOW: No, I’m not going to be…I’ve already made it clear I’m not going to be able to go the distance, but that’s primarily for financial reasons. I’ve told people when my money runs out, then I’ve got to go.
