June Newsletter From Strawberry Fields Greetings! The team at Strawberry Fields thought that it would be a good idea to send out a monthly 'newsletter' to let everyone know what's happening in the Beatle world and on the Strawberry Fields site, so this will hopefully be the first of many such letters sent out to the members. Firstly, overshadowing everything else is the release of Paul's latest studio album, Memory Almost Full, and the worldwide Starbucks listening events which many of our members attended. Reviews (which have been overall positive) can be found in the the 'Wings & Solo' section of the website and experiences of the Starbucks listening event can be found in the 'Press' section along with all the other Macca news. If you have the album, please let us know exactly what you think of it - all opinions are welcomed and respected, although not necessarily agreed with, of course! It's being reported that Paul will start touring next year, so watch for news of that at Strawberry Fields as well. Last Friday was the 40th Anniversary of the release of Sgt. Pepper (so in effect, it was sixty years ago today Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play!). Related articles and discussion can be found in our 'Magical Mystery Four' and 'Newspaper Taxi' sections. Other discussions include deciding who was the fifth Beatle, the most underrated Beatles album, your favourite Beatles cover versions and many more. We're also awaiting some press releases about Ringo's new album which is, apparently, being released this month. If anyone has any info about it, please be sure to let our members know. The 'off-topic' section is as busy and buzzing as ever. The most popular and interesting discussions concern the US letting in 7,000 Iraqi refugees, whether we can live without the internet, baseball and alcoholism, as well as our ever present birthday threads, joke thread, venting thread, 'what are you thinking/doing right now' threads and many, many more. SF doesn't just exist online - we had our second London meet-up recently which was a lot of fun & we hope to repeat it in the future. Our members have had lots of get-togethers all over the place, so look out for those threads if you're interested in meeting up with like-minded Beatles fans. Well, that's about it for now. If you have any forthcoming events or anything you'd like to be included in the July newsletter, please contact any member of the Strawberry Fields team and we'll be happy to help. See you all on the forum! Warm regards, Andy, Fiona, Bill, Clare, Lisa & Tom The Strawberry Fields Team |

Two things; You need to check that the e-mail you are registered here on is a current e-mail address and you also need to ensure that you have opted to receive e-mails from the administrator. To do this, you need to go into your control panel, select 'Email Settings' and ensure that the "Send me any updates sent by the board administrator" box is checked. |

July Newsletter From Strawberry Fields Hello all, This is the July 2007 newsletter from the Strawberry Fields forum and all I can say is that June proved to be quite an amazing month for Paul & Beatles fans and for many of our members on the board. We saw Paul’s trio of ‘secret gigs’ coming to a close the other day at Amoeba Records in LA and, like New York and London, some of our board members were lucky (and dedicated) enough to attend. There are threads on the board about all three events and all are great reads. Paul’s playing a date at the iTunes festival in London in a few days - there’s a competition to win tickets for that show over at http://www.memoryalmostfull.com/comp_london/ if you’re a UK resident. They have 50 pairs of tickets to give away, so if you enter, good luck with that! It’s such an exciting time to be a Beatles fan at the moment - there was also a fantastic Larry King show on CNN a few nights ago, featuring Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Olivia who were celebrating the first anniversary of the hugely successful ‘Love’ show in Las Vegas. If you saw it, did you think that Ringo was a little tense towards Paul? That’s just one of the talking points in our Larry King thread. We have an exclusive ‘Beard Times’ article where Heather Mills gives her very own review of Paul’s Memory Almost Full. That can be found in the ‘Press!’ section of the board. Does she give it a thumbs up? You’ll have to visit the thread to find out! Other Beatley discussions include debating whether ELO’s 21st Century Man was about John Lennon, why ‘Love Of The Loved’ didn’t make it onto Anthology 1 (you can hear that song if you visit the “Rarity Of The Week” thread, courtesy of our resident master of the archives, Ogoble) and much, much more. Other artists, apart from The Beatles, provoking conversation in the “Lonely Hearts Club Bands” section are Crowded House, Belle & Sebastian, Simon & Garfunkel, ABBA, Muse, The Kaiser Chiefs and Linkin Park. There’s an index of all of the popular artists we’ve discussed so far and a host of music-crazy people who are ready to talk in depth about virtually all music, regardless of genre so, if you want to talk about your favourite bands besides The Beatles, that’s the section to visit. Popular off-topic discussions include “Do you believe in spanking your kids?”, “Gordon Brown” and many other topics including baseball, industrial action, gossip, the ever-present ‘Vent’ thread and other topics way too numerous to mention. They can all be found in the “You Can Talk To Me” section, as can one of the most innovative additions to the Strawberry Fields Forum, the entertainment-tastic Strawberry Fields Radio, presented and compiled by Bill, one of our dedicated moderators. Episode 4 is now available (as are episodes 1-3, if you‘ve missed out) and it contains some really wonderful contributions from our very talented members. If you have anything to contribute to Strawberry Fields Radio, please send Bill a PM. We’ve had a bit of a redesign of the forum layout recently, so if you haven’t visited for a while, you may notice the changes. There has also been a new TV & Movies section called “I’d Love To Turn You On” added, which has proved to be quite successful so far. Hope you like the changes - be sure to give us some feedback on the forum. Well, that’s about it from me for this month. To all the members who are posting regularly, thank you - this place wouldn’t exist if not for you. To all of the members who, for whatever reason, are unable to be with us - we miss you… come back soon. To all of those who haven’t ever really posted - what are you waiting for?! Thanks for reading - hope to see you down at Strawberry Fields very soon. All the best, Andy (JeffLynnesBeard) Administrator & Moderator Strawberry Fields Forum (on behalf of Fiona, Clare, Bill, Lisa & Tom - the SF team) http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fields |

August Newsletter From Strawberry Fields Dear friends, This is the August newsletter from Strawberry Fields and I'd urge you to read all of it instead of skipping over it, like you probably do many other e-mails... well, I know I do. Here's why; SAY HELLO TO OUR MEMBERS.... In a sporadic special feature for the newsletter, moderator Jacaranda (Lisa) interviews two of our members, our top posters Maccascruff (Linda) and Merry. Maccascruff, our Beatles fan extraordinaire, lives in Colorado is a tax preparer, while Merry makes her home near Detroit, and works two part-time jobs. Both came to Strawberry Fields as refugees from the Paul McCartney board, and both know most of the original members of the SF board. Special interests: women’s basketball, her boyfriend and her cats (Maccascruff); music, particularly her sons’ band, “The Nerve,” reading, writing and hopefully travel (Merry). Here are a few responses to a few Beatle- and Strawberry Fields-related questions, in their own words: What drew you to become a Beatle fan and when and/or how did it happen? Maccascruff: I'm old! I had heard the Beatles on the radio in January and February of 1964 and knew they were going to be on Ed Sullivan. Then on February 9, 1964, there they were and I immediately fell in love for a lifetime with Paul and the music of the Beatles. That is part of my life that has never changed. Merry: I was there when it first happened, so it wasn't too hard to do! But to be honest, I wasn't a huge fan until after Sgt. Pepper came out. Up until then I was a bigger fan of The Monkees! It was only when a fellow classmate brought in her copy of Sgt. Pepper, and was allowed to play it for us one day in school, that I truly appreciated them. All those fantastic songs...I was hooked after that! Do you have a particular Beatle you like best and why, and how does he interest you specifically? Maccascruff: At age 12, I think falling for Paul was all hormonal. As I grew older, I found who wrote which songs, I learned that it was his songs that spoke to me. “Let It Be” is my all-time favorite Beatles song and that song has saved my life at least twice. Songs like For “No One,” “She's Leaving Home” and “Eleanor Rigby” always felt like the story of my life. When Paul wrote “Another Day,” I thought he was watching my daily routine. I don't know how he can write from a woman's point of view and be so right on. Merry: I don't think it's much of a secret! It is John...I love his honesty, his voice and way with lyrics and music. It strikes a chord in me, and my love and appreciation for his music will go on the rest of my life! What is your favorite Beatles’ song and your least favorite? What about the solo songs? Maccascruff: Favorite: “Let It Be.” Least favorite: “Revolution No. 9.” Favorite solo song: “Calico Skies.” Least favorite: something by poor Ringo. Merry: OH, it's impossible to name just one favorite Beatle song, I love so many of them! I'm not too fond of the early, cover version of songs that they did, but I do feel that they grew and improved from "Revolver" on...or is that "Rubber Soul"? I would have to say that John's "#9 Dream" is my favorite solo song (next to "Old Dirt Road"), and my least favorite of his, "Cold Turkey." Paul's "Maybe I'm Amazed" is one of my favorites. What do you like about SF and why? Maccascruff: The love and respect among the members. We rarely squabble with each other. Merry: The wonderful people at SF, the love and concern between everyone is very special and uncommon in the world of internet forums! Which thread in Strawberry Fields is your most favorite and which is your least favorite? Maccascruff: Favorite: Count to a Million! Just kidding. Least favorite would be some of the silly threads. Can't name one specifically, but, to me, they are nonsense and I don't even read them any more. I also don't like threads about missing people or congratulating people on post count. Favorite is probably the Betsy [theonlyfab4fan] thread at the moment [Editor’s Note: “Get Well Wishes for Betsy” in the “You Can Talk to Me” section.] Merry: I look forward to Andy's "Drivel" contributions...hopefully he'll do them more often! My least favorite? I don't have one, really. If a topic comes along that I'm not interested in, I just let it be. They both closed their interviews with lovely parting thoughts. Maccascruff said: “Thank you Andy and Fiona for starting this board and keeping it going for us. I've had the pleasure of meeting many boardies in person and spoken to more over the phone. It's a pleasure to be here.” Merry added: “I think it is a wonderful community, and Andy and Fiona have done their all to accommodate everyone. I love it, and think it's the best on the net! I think we have a wonderful group of people on our forum, the best!” --- Thank you Linda & Merry! One of the most exciting and enjoyable features of the SF forum recently has been the creation and continuation of Strawberry Fields Radio, a series of downloadable shows around the 30 minutes mark which feature all manner of Beatles-related music, member contributions, a round-up of what's happening on the forum and much more, all hosted by Bill, one of our very talented and dedicated moderators. You can download the latest Strawberry Fields Radio show (number nine, number nine, number nine...), plus all of the previous shows in MP3 format by clicking on; http://strawberryfields.podomatic.com/ For those who have a slower download speed, there is a version sent out in WMA on a seperate filehosting site. For more details, please click on; http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...dpost&p=3624455 ...or copy it into your browser if it doesn't appear 'clickable'. We've had a bit of a quiet July on Strawberry Fields - lots of people on vacation, some just enjoying the sunshine (or rain) wherever they live. Let's make August a not-so-quiet month! There's plenty to talk about, so please - if you haven't been to Strawberry Fields for a while - come along and join in. Just in case you've forgotten the address, it's; http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fields/ Hope to see you there! On behalf of the SF team, Andy (JeffLynnesBeard) |

September Newsletter From Strawberry Fields Hello everyone, August was a very sad month for us all. Most of you already know, but for those who are not yet aware, one of our valued members, mozart8mytoe (Lissa), was killed in a road accident in China. This has naturally cast a rather sad shadow across the forum, but we have learned some incredible things about her life, thanks to Reverend Dave and Lissa’s family and there have been some wonderful written tributes to Lissa by our members. For those interested, you can listen to some of her rather amazing piano performances on Strawberry Fields Radio, Episode 13. The thread breaking the news can be found here; http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...?showtopic=5640 A collection of quotes from Lissa’s time on Strawberry Fields can be found here; http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...?showtopic=5707 …and the site from which you can download Strawberry Fields Radio Episode 13, featuring Lissa’s performances is; http://strawberryfields.podomatic.com/ Of course, Lissa’s passing was a great shock to us all, something that none of us were really prepared for. We can only offer our sympathy and sincere condolences to Lissa’s family and friends and hope that we have handled the news sensitively and with the dignity that she deserves. We’re going to miss her greatly. There are many other threads, discussions and conversations going on about Strawberry Fields. It is ‘business as usual’, but for obvious reasons I won’t give you the usual summary of the ‘hot topics’ but there are all manner of interesting subjects to talk about at the forum, as well as the passing of our friend. Hope to see you at Strawberry Fields soon. All the very best & on behalf of the forum team, Andy (JeffLynnesBeard) Administrator Strawberry Fields http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fields/ |

Hi Rose, We don't currently have a valid e-mail address for you on file. I think if - at any time - people choose not to have e-mails sent to them by the administrator, the database deletes the e-mail address for that member. If you (or anyone else who isn't receiving the newsletters) would like us to add your e-mail address to your account, then please PM or e-mail it to us at strawberry.fields@blueyonder.co.uk. Andy.

October Newsletter From Strawberry Fields Dear Strawberry Fields Members, October has the potential to be a very great month for Beatles fans indeed and especially fans of Paul McCartney who is playing two shows - L’Olympia in Paris on 22nd October and The Roundhouse, London on the 25th for the BBC’s Electric Proms. The Paris tickets are only available on the day, from 10am onwards on this French number: 08 92 68 33 68 and the London tickets are all but sold, apart from 100 tickets priced at £5 each. If you want to be in with a shout for the £5 tickets, you need to register at the Electric Proms homepage one week before the gig. Here’s the link; http://www.bbc.co.uk/electricproms/2007/ar.../paulmccartney/ For those who aren’t able to make the Roundhouse gig, there are many ways that you will be able to view Paul’s Electric Proms performance - either live on BBC Radio 2, via BBCi (interactive television), some highlights on BBC2 and, more importantly for those not in the UK, for one week on the Electric Proms website. Some Strawberry Fields members have been lucky enough to secure tickets for the Electric Proms and I’m sure there will be quite a few reviews posted on the site, so be sure to check back after the concert(s) for some enjoyable reads! There are a couple of interesting threads relating to these gigs in the ‘Wings & Solo’ and ‘Press’ sections of Strawberry Fields. Wings & Solo: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...php?showforum=3 Press: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...hp?showforum=11 Some more exciting Macca news now. Most of you will already be well aware, but it has been confirmed in the last week that Paul will be playing at Anfield, Liverpool on June 1st, 2008 as part of the ‘Liverpool European City of Culture’ celebrations. To be in with a chance of buying tickets, you will need to register on the wayahead site and tickets will be allocated on a random basis. You can find the link for the site selling the tickets & more information here; Macca playing Anfield: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...?showtopic=5847 Good luck to all of you applying for those tickets - I’ve certainly got my fingers crossed! You need to get your application in by October 7th, so if you want to see Macca on his home turf next June, don’t delay. Apart from the great news about Paul’s concerts, there are a lot of discussions going on at Strawberry Fields at the moment. Some of the ‘off-topic’ discussions include religion, the 2008 U.S. election, baseball, football, ghosts and much more, including the ever present vent thread which is never anything but entertaining. Please also remember to tune into the brilliant ‘Strawberry Fields Radio’ which is currently up to Episode 18. Bill puts a lot of hard work into producing an enjoyable, high-quality, half-hour radio show every week & it’s most definitely not a chore tuning in to some top-class music, topical chat, member contributions and much more. If you haven’t listened to it before, then you’re missing out. Also, if you have any contributions for the radio show, please e-mail them to Bill. The e-mail address & the links for the show can be found on the SF Radio thread; SF Radio Thread: http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fiel...?showtopic=5031 If all of that wasn’t enough, there’s the games forum to enjoy, a non-Beatles music section where artists such as Mark Knopfler, Rufus Wainwright, Josh Ritter, Arctic Monkeys and, er, Rick Astley are being discussed, and much, much more. So, please - let us take you down to one of the best, if not THE best Beatles forum on the ‘net. Yes, we’re that modest. Hope to see you there soon! All the best, on behalf of all of the SF team, Andy (JeffLynnesBeard) Administrator & Moderator Strawberry Fields Forum http://z3.invisionfree.com/Strawberry_Fields/ |
