The Internet,Can we do without it?

Last night while I was browsing this site,my wife asked me how old is Ravi Shankar. Within a few seconds I told her he is 87,born on 7th April 1920. Finding information in seconds we now take for granted, before it would have been a case of finding a book with the date in.
Shortly after I looked up flights and hotels in Singapore and Thailand. Again I found plenty of information. A few years ago it would have meant a trip to a travel agents to collect some brochures, looking at them during the week and returning the following week and spending an hour or so booking everything.
We now take the internet for granted and can do so much simply from sitting in front of a computer. We can meet people with similar interests, like this site for Beatle fans, book holidays, order books,cd's,dvd's etc. I'd find life so difficult if I was ever without the internet now. I'm totally hooked.
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

No way. I'd rather die than be without the internet.

plus sides and negative sides to this :hmm:

if it was invented I wouldn't have met a lot of wonderful people on here

in the thoughts of my study work - i can find the books i want online - VERY QUICKLY because it summarises it - but i know if it wasn't here, i would have to find the book in a library, read it all and pick out the relative parts i need for an assignment - something i have realised recently is more effective in my studies as the internet doesn't always give what i require.

hope that makes sense lol :P

I have been on the internet since the early 1990's and especially since broadband came to be, I could not nor would I want to live without it. A lot of the time, it's my only means of communication with people that I love dearly.

Can we do without it? Sure, but it'd make life a lot more complicated and, for information, we'd have to make trips to that place... er... can't remember what it's called... begins with 'L'... um... Labia? No, that's not it... that's something quite different... um... oh yeah, Library! (It's been a long time!) :P

I'm rather fond of my internet. ^_^

Having just spent three days without the net, I can safely say that I could live without it quite happily - I just don't want to.
I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me.

Yes, I could do without it but I like the speed of information it gives me and the ability to quickly connect with people in other countries so I don't want to.

I could not do without it now. Life is much easier. No more writing cheques, queuing in the Post office to buy a stamp. I bought a book online last night,24/7 shopping. Next thing to buy online will be The Travelling Wilbreys remastered cd. ;)
With every mistake we must surely be learning.

One thing to ponder though, if we didn't have the internet we would communicate with people by letter, phone or :o face to vace. Nowadays, we just e-mail them, meet people on a place like this or IM them. Before the internet was invented, we would go to clubs or play outside with friends.
Yeah, the internet is good and I don't think we can't let it go, but sometimes I think if we didn't have it people would be more sociable.

A few years ago I was seriously addicted to the internet. I neglected my work and studies, stayed up all night, spending as much time as I could on the internet trying to find someone to talk to.

Then I quit and went travelling. When I got back, I started to concentrate on studying a bit more but the internet was still something on which I depended for some sort of contact with ... with... what are they called... *checks wikipedia*... humans.

It's a pathetic situation. Not having the internet can be bad because I can become even more isolated, but at other times it is a better life to be away from the internet.

The internet can enhance your life...or completely take over your life..... ;) When I"m at work it REALLY makes my work day go quicker :o  ...but when I'm at home I prefer not being on the PC...... too much fun stuff to do OUTSIDE!! :P
