Finally so very serious news, and one that all the newshounds out here in lala land are just salivating about :P , Paris Hilton going to jail.

Paris' Date with Jail Looms

by Joal Ryan

Is Paris Hilton nervous?

"Of course, she is," Hilton's Simple Life costar Nicole Richie told E! News' Ryan Seacrest. "I mean anyone would be."

On or before 11:59 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday, Hilton must turn herself into authorities to begin serving a 23-day jail sentence for probation violations. She can surrender at a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department facility. Or maybe even at a courtroom. But she must surrender.

There was a report that the 26-year-old hotel heiress might turn herself in sooner rather than later. There was a report that her cellmate had already been selected. There were so many reports that sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore sounded weary Thursday of responding to them. But he did. One more time.

According to Whitmore, the surrender deadline is what it is—June 5;  the cellmate situation is undecided.

"We don't know if she'll have a roommate yet," Whitmore said. "Very possibly, she'll be in there by herself."

"In there" is the Century Regional Detention Facility, a county-run jail in Lynwood, California, where Hilton, who was sentenced May 4, will be one of as many as 2,300 female inmates. She'll dress like them (orange jumpsuit), and she'll eat like them (three meals a day), but she won't quite be one of them. Certainly, not all of them.

Hilton will be housed in a so-called special-needs housing unit. (Hilton's special need is her celebrity.) The pod consists of 12 cells, combining to hold up to a 24 inmates.

Apart from her exclusion from the jail's general population, Hilton will go through the usual inmate paces:

Lights on at 6 a.m.
Breakfast, usually consisting of cold cereal, bread, orange juice, milk and a hard-boiled egg, from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Lunch, usually consisting of a sandwich, an apple, cookies, veggies and a beverage, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dinner, centered around spaghetti, pepper steak or perhaps macaroni and cheese, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Lights out at 10 p.m.
Next day, the same drill.

Inmates like Hilton take their meals inside their cells and can receive daily visits from their attorneys, and one visit a day from others on the weekend. Daily downtime lasts about an hour—precisely how long Hilton can spend outside her cell, and in the larger housing pod.

The Simple Life star will not have a TV, but she'll be near one. The housing unit has one wall-mounted set in the common area.

Said Whitmore: "She can see it from her cell."

But she won't have the remote.

Paris Hilton needs to get a little more relaistic. Perhaps she will have an understainding of people and reality after the jail experience she is not going to a Country club or spa for the rich.

Like a great many people, I have been inside the Paris Hilton. It is not all it is cracked up to be. It looks ok on the outside, but I do not much care for the accomodations.

I totally agree! WTF is this crap about giving her less time becuase she 'showed up in court' as mandated. Everyone else is expected to show up in court too, why should she get less time for doing what she had to do anyway?!

She's such an immature brat.

Nobody should feel sorry for her. She's getting what she deserves and I think she should get more jail time. Overcrowded my butt. Also, instead of putting her in solicatry confident she should be put in with the other inmates and see what is really like to be in jail. You know her other sister Nicki doesn't seem to be the bad girl. She seems like the better of the two sisters. She seems more stable, IMHO. Paris is the black sheep.
Her, Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lowan all make my stomach turn.

Molly, I can tell you for sure that the Los Angeles County Jail is overcrowded. There is always the chance that because of the overcrowding, she may get sent home after only a few hours. Something that is not all that unusual. I'm just glad that she decided to drop her appeal. It would have really dragged things on.

Cathy, I thought I heard that her time was downgraded was because of the overcrowding, not her coming to court. I've heard so many different things about this I don't know what to believe. :hmm:

Her time was downgraded mainly for her showing up to court, even though her tardiness angered the judge, and for overcrowding. Depending on the cell, they are only allowed no more than 2 inmates per cell. The average can be more than that and that makes it a dangerous situation. More fights. When she turns herself in, they will know if they have the room for her. It happens quite often. The lesser criminal can go home with having just served a matter of hours due to overcrowding and it will show on their record as time served. A higher criminal will not go home regardless of overcrowding.

I don't feel sorry for someone who gets away with stuff she shouldn't, plus she did, as Cathy pointed out, drive drunk. I have had a family member get seriously hurt due to drunk driving. She was the only surviving member of the car she was driving in. The car she was riding in got hit by a drunk driver and she's now paralyzed and brain damaged.

Dotty, where is the dignity of telling friends and family that their loved one is dead due to a drunk driver. When you make a small mistake, like she did, there is a small price to pay. If urinating in front of someone is that small price to pay, isn't that getting off easier than finding out while driving intoxicated you killed somebody? I have had 2 friends die, one of those having just left my house and was planning to get married (she died, he was badly injured and was not expected to live but did) and have my mom-her best friend-be in the wedding.

So Paris loses a bit of her dignity, if this saves more lives, her dignity (if she had any) is but a small price to pay.

Sorry Dotty, I can't let anybody off the hook for driving drunk and losing their dignity because they have pee in front of people. It doesn't add up. You do the crime, you do the time.

And those who drive drunk, celebrity or not, should go directly to jail and don't pass go. If it's their first offense and they didn't hurt anyone, maybe they can go to jail for a couple weeks to a month, but if they hurt or kill someone they should be put to jail for a very long time.

Paris Hilton Ordered to Return to Court

By LINDA DEUTSCH, The Associated Press
2007-06-08 01:14:29.0

LOS ANGELES -
Hours after Paris Hilton was sent home under house arrest Thursday, the judge who put her in jail for violating her reckless-driving probation ordered her into court to determine whether she should be put back behind bars.

Hilton must report to court at 9 a.m. Friday, Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told The Associated Press.

"My understanding is she will be brought in in a sheriff's vehicle from her home," Parachini said.

Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer issued his order after the city attorney filed a petition late Thursday afternoon questioning whether Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court for releasing Hilton on Thursday morning.

The celebrity inmate was sent home from the Los Angeles County jail's Lynwood lockup shortly after 2 a.m. for an unspecified medical condition in a stunning reduction to her original 45-day sentence.

She was ordered to finish her sentence under house arrest, meaning she could not leave her four-bedroom, three-bath home in the Hollywood Hills until next month.

"What transpired here is outrageous," county Supervisor Don Knabe told The Associated Press, adding that he received more than 400 angry e-mails and hundreds more phone calls from around the country.

Hilton's return home gives the impression of "celebrity justice being handed out," he said.

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo complained that he learned of her release the same way as almost everyone else - through news reports.

"It is the city attorney's position that the decision on whether or not Ms. Hilton should be released early and placed on electronic monitoring should be made by Judge Sauer and not the Sheriff's Department," said Jeffrey Isaacs of the city attorney's office.

Sauer himself had expressed his unhappiness with Hilton's release before Delgadillo asked him to return her to court. When he sentenced Hilton to jail last month, he ruled specifically that she could not serve her sentence at home under electronic monitoring.

Parachini said Sauer reminded the Sheriff's Department of that when he learned Hilton was about to be released.

"He reiterated the terms of his sentencing order. He did not agree to the terms of release that the sheriff proposed," Parachini told the AP before Delgadillo asked that Hilton be returned to court.

But, Parachini said at the time, it is the sheriff and not the judge who decides when inmates are released from jail.

Delgadillo's office indicated that it would argue that the Sheriff's Department violated Sauer's May 4 sentencing order.

---

There you have it. In all of its' glory the power struggle that has been going for years between the Sheriff's dept. (who run the jail system), the City Attorney's office, and the judges.

I hope they send her back to the slammer where she deserves to be.

I heard two things about her "medical" condition. One was that she has a rash from the jail orange clothes. The other was that her shrink went to see her yesterday (coincidental timing--I doubt it) and she can't eat the prison food, sleep with the lights on and is crying all the time. She should have thought about this before she drove drunk.

Yep, and this rash can be deadly if not treated. They have released prisoners for it.

With her probation violation conviction, it has been known that they will detain arrestees for as little as a weekend (I know that for sure, my brother was one) and for as long as 6 months. What I have heard all morning is that an early release like this has not been all that unusual. Let's not forget that she was not doing time for drunk driving but for probation violation.

This makes me want to puke my guts out!

I guarantee you if it were any one of us we'd be in jail. The only good thing is that someone had enough sense to send her wh*re ass back in the slammer!!!

Her Lawyer should be shot for even appealing this new ruling.

It makes me sick that there are brave men and women over in Iraq defending her right to be a snotty, little rich sl*t, whiney b*tch!!

OH YEAH, CHECK THIS OUT, SHE DOESN'T WANT HER FANS TO SEE HER LIKE THIS...EXACTLY WHAT DOES THIS NO TALENT sl*t DO AGAIN?

Others who don't deserve to be celebrities include Lindsey Lohan, Joey and Amy the "Glorified Criminals" Brittney Spears, and i'm sure I could go on.

Not only should they not be celebritites, but they too should be shot twice in the head.

You may as well line up the entire hard up media who should all be fired.

OK, i'm done ranting!! It felt good, real good!

From someone who has listened to the coverage all day, I can tell you that I am feeling a little bit sorry for her. I don't know what has been said elsewhere but here in Los Angeles, we have the full ringside seat. There is a major fight going on by the courts and the sheriff's dept (who actually do run the jails) that has been going on for quite sometime. I almost feel that the judge is making an example with Paris for a crime where most people have not served the 45 days that this judge is asking. Most of the attorney's interviewed said that the 45 days is normally not the ruling that the 23 days that she was to serve was more in tune with what is actually done with early release in as little as a few hours.

Many of you think she got celebrity justice, but from what I know from secondhand experience (my brother being firsthand) and from what I have been hearing, it was not totally true. For whatever medical conditions she was being allowed out for, most reports has it as a nervous breakdown, people in and around the court system are now questioning as to how many people have been let out for the same reason.

The fight between the sheriff's dept and the courts really escalated today with reports that the sheriff's dept refused to send a car to pick her up. They are stating they did not get the notice when it was reported that they did. The judge claims that he never saw the report that the sheriff was releasing her when the sheriff claims that he did. Now this whole thing has blown up to the point that there is no doubt in my mind the Hilton's will sue and with the childish antics of all involved, will most likely win. Hopefully they will give their winnings, if it does indeed happen, to a alcohol/drug therapy program and homeless shelters.

It was fun to listen to but after awhile it just got thoroughly disgusting. Yes I know she did a crime and she should do the time but being used as a pawn in this stupid war between the sheriff and the court system is really really unfair.

It isn't completely unbelievable to me to think that Paris would have had a nervous breakdown inside jail, but how many first-timers suffer from stress & anxiety leading to a breakdown? I bet it's a high figure and they're not let out, so why let little miss privileged out?

Stuff the internal politics, Paris was repeatedly drink driving. I think she got off lightly with a 45-day sentence. She could easily have killed somebody - she deserves exactly what she gets if she serves out every day of that sentence.

Andy, I am not disagreeing with you but she was not going to jail for drunk driving. She was going to jail on a probation violation.

This whole thing today has been nothing but a f*cking circus and will be for the entire time she is in jail.

Yes, people have gotten out of jail for suffering a nervous breakdown. If the jail medics are not able to treat it, and they were the ones who said she should be released, than they will be released. After the court hearing it was revealed today that they jail medics were the ones who said whatever her ailment was that she should be released so she can seek the medical care she needs.

I don't have any sympathy for the b*tch. And I don't get how people can sympathize with her. She's a rich b*tch and she seemed like she got special treatment to me. And give me a break, she probably had a "nervous breakdown" to get back to her Mommy and Daddy. If I were her parent I would have kicked her out of the house and let her live her life. I would have also stopped giving her money.
I wonder why Nicki Hilton turned out better than Paris? We don't hear about her much in the news and if there is it seems like more postive news for some reason.

Yes, she's going to jail for a probation violation. She was driving drunk, had her license suspended, then she got caught driving without a license, then she had to go to court, then she didn't appeal the sentence, then they came to throw her sorry ass in jail right where she belongs. They should ley her take her dumb ass mother with her.

Paris a victim, come on now seriously  . She's nothing but a no talent, drunken sl*t.

The reason why it's become a circus is because that Sheriff is too damn stupid to be a Sheriff.

Mike, I didn't say she was being a victim just a pawn in the war that has been going on here between the sheriff and the courts for years. The sheriff did what they are entitled to do. They run the jail system and make the determination on who stays and who goes. The only thing the courts can do is to override, something they rarely do.

I live in and around LA and know a lot more than what is being shown all over. It gets pretty disgusting when the courts say one thing, the sheriff's dept say something else, and the City Attorney (who wants to go more into politics) saying something else. It happens quite a lot here which is why it is now being believed out here that the courts and City Attorney's office is using her as a pawn against the sheriff's dept.

I have no sympathy with what she did, I know the heartbreak of what happens with a drunk driver, but the way she is being used is sickening. And now, because of her celebrity, it is being played out all around the world.

Those of us who have to live in and around Los Angeles see the way they deal the cards around here. The sentencing for Paris is not the normal sentencing for the crime she committed. The only thing that was done right was the suspending of her driver's license and her arrest. The only reason why the judge gave her 45 days was because she was 15 min late and that angered him. Otherwise her sentencing would fall into line with everyone else.

And yes, the sheriff's dept has been known to reduce a 30 day sentence to a mere couple of hours in no time flat. It happens all of the time, jail overcrowding (face it there is over 18000 criminals waiting for 1200 beds), illness, and time off for good behavior.

I laughed so hard at her crying picture in the car. Imagine, having to go to jail instead of her mansion. Oh the indignity of it all. LOLOLOL

In the terms of being a celebrity her 4 bedroom, 3 bath house is not a mansion.

CARRY ON! :)

So tell us how you REALLY feel Nutty!!! :D

My hatred is not that deep for Paris Hilton....I think she is priviledged and spoiled but it does not make me happy seeing her in tears in the back of a police car...and calling out for her mom.... :(

She should just do her time and suck it up....the more the press berate her the more sympathy she will get from the public....I think...

When I look at the photos of Paris in the police car, tears streaming down her face, I see a girl, who for the first time in her life, is being made to face the responsibility of her actions.

The food will be horrid, the days long, and the nights longer, I imagine. But at least she is not with the general population. She can spend her days reading (well....maybe fashion mags), she can listen to music (which she can hear over a CD player purchased in the jail commissary at enormously inflated prices), she can have chocolate candy purchased in the commissary (chocolate bells and chocolate santas, bought by the jail long after Christmas at pennies on the dollar and sold for dollars) and she can write letters (as long as she has no more than 20 peices of plain paper at a time, and a pencil, no pens). She could also spend her time contemplating the error of her ways, and deciding if she will become a productive member of society.

She entered jail like a regal queen five days ago. "Cooperative" and quiet. I'm sure this was because she knew she was a short timer. She re-entered the same jail today, not so quiet or cooperative. Amazing the difference a day makes, isn't it? At least Martha Stewart did her time with class and no complaints.
If slaughterhouses had glass walls the whole world would be vegetarian.

Actually, Jana, she is not in the same facility. The Lynwood station, where she was before, is a small palace compared to the twin towers several miles away where she is in a mental ward. The twin towers IS Los Angeles County lock-up. This is the only place, however, where she can get the treatment they feel she needs. At the moment, it is believed that she is a harm to herself and the people around her so she is being watched.

Her privileges will only be what they say it should be and under constant guard until it is felt that she is no longer a danger.

BTW, where Martha Stewart was incarcerated is a much smaller place than Los Angeles County lock-up, and a step above where Paris was in the Lynwood Station.

Funny you should mention OJ, Bill. My friends at work and I were likening all this media frenzy to the day OJ was heading for Mexico and wanting to commit suicide. As we listened to where the sheriff's car was on the way back to the courthouse and the media feeding frenzy I think we all half-expected to hear them give the radio/tv listeners the play-by-play of what was happening on the freeway. It came very close. We had to hear that "they stopped in front of the courthouse, no we lost view of them. We don't know where they are right now, oh wait there's her parents. We just found out that they entered the building through the backdoor. Back to you, at the station."

Paris is trying to cry her way out of jail. I have no intentions of ever going to jail, but if I did, I'd be crying, too. However, I would not have the money to fight like Paris does. Neither do AIDS patients in prison.

Martha Stewart did do her time with dignity and didn't complain, as I recall.

Stop whining and calling for mommy, Paris.

I'm not even sure if Nick was trying to be funny. There was a piece in the News Of The World today saying that the 'unidentified medical condition' that Paris was originally let out of jail for was an STD.

Perhaps that's what Nick was referring to?

You would trust News of the World?!? That is a pretty sick news item coming from them. Like our National Enquirer or Weekly World News.

Here is the latest which is more legitimate than News of the World,

Paris Won't Appeal Jail Sentence

by Sarah Hall

Jail may not be Paris Hilton's idea of a good time, but she's determined to stick it out this time.

The incarcerated celebutante has dropped plans to appeal her sentence for violating her probation on a reckless driving charge.

"Today I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision. While I greatly appreciate the Sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, after meeting with doctors, I intend to serve my time as ordered by the judge," Hilton said in a statement.

"This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to reflect and have already learned a bitter but important lesson from this experience.

"As I have said before, I hope others will learn from my mistake. I have also had time to read the mail from my fans. I very much appreciate all of their good wishes and hope they will keep their letters coming.

"I must also say that I was shocked to see all of the attention devoted to the amount of time I would spend in jail for what I had done by the media, public and city officials. I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things, like the men and women serving our country in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places around the world."

As of Saturday, Hilton has been credited with serving 7 of the 45 days to which she was originally sentenced on May 5 by Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer. Allowing for time off for good behavior, she could be released in a little more than two weeks.

After spending a few brief hours under house arrest at her luxurious West Hollywood home, the incarcerated celebutante passed her first night back behind bars Friday in the medical services building at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

She is currently being housed alone in a 120-square-foot room with a toilet, sink and a "sliver of a window," Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said, and she will remain there "indefinitely" while undergoing psychological and medical tests to determine where she should be placed to serve out the rest of her sentence.

A guard is monitoring her at all times to ensure "there isn't anything harmful done to herself by herself," Whitmore said.

As during her previous jail stint, Hilton has reportedly been having trouble sleeping and eating since arriving at the facility. Her psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Sophy, visited her at the jail for more than two hours Saturday morning, according to TMZ, but her family will not be permitted to visit until Sunday.

On Friday, Sheriff Lee Baca said he decided to reassign Hilton from jail to house arrest because she was suffering from "severe medical problems" and had deteriorated to the point where she was "not speaking coherently," leading to concerns for her safety.

While he did not disclose the specifics of Hilton's health issue, Baca indicated it was psychological in nature. He said he had no warning of the condition before she arrived at the Century Regional Detention Facility and later learned from one of her doctors that she had not been taking a certain medication during her three-day stay.

"When you're talking about psychological problems, it's far more complex, and it does require a more complex medical approach," Baca said. "We didn't have all of our information."

He said she was sent to Twin Towers for the time being because it is a "better facility for her condition, meaning one that has a more intense form of medical support."

Where Hilton ends up after Twin Towers will depend on the results of her evaluation by the jail's medical staff.

Though the Simple Life star was no fan of her earlier stay at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, winding up in the general inmate population at Twin Towers could be far worse, according to Michelle Rodriguez, who served a few brief hours of her own probation-violation sentence there last year.

While reports have claimed Rodriguez spent her short stay behind bars at the Lynwood facility, she told E! Online's Ted Casablanca last week that she was actually sent to Twin Towers—and according to the former Lost star, there's no comparison between the two.

She described the Lynwood facility as "a jail for misdemeanors," while Twin Towers is a place for "real criminals."

"Twin Towers is…yiiikes," Rodriguez said. "It's different...hard-core!"

In other words, that 12-by-8 solitary-confinement cell at Lynwood might be sounding pretty good right about now.

This is what we have been hearing on our local news as well.

Are you seriously asking me if I trust the News Of The World? The answer to that is, of course, no. I was just pointing out that there was an article in that paper about Paris, which is where Nick probably saw the story.

I am, however, interested in why you branded the story 'sick'. Regardless of whether it is true or not, there is nothing 'sick' about having an STD. Although there is a kind of stigma about them, STDs affect millions of people worldwide and there are plenty that can be transmitted even if condoms are worn.

As for Paris, I feel absolutely no sympathy for her whatsoever. Even these statements she's reportedly making are carefully worded concoctions from her legal team and probably bear little resemblence to her actual thoughts about this situation. For what she did, she deserves to be inside and hopefully it will teach her a well-needed lesson and set an example to those who believe they can do anything without consequence.

Those people who have sent her 'fan mail' in jail - I think they're in greater need of psychiatric help than Paris herself, to be fans of such a no-talent, famous for the sake of being famous bimbo. She sets an appalling example to young girls - personally, I wish they'd throw away the key.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Andy, it was a rhetorical question. To me, it is sick that anyone would publish that someone has an STD no matter who they are. That is highly personal information and until it comes out of that person's mouth, we don't need to know. Freddie Mercury had that choice and chose not to confirm the rumors of him having AIDS. That is something we have to respect, it is their personal information ............ not ours. Knowing that it is from News of the World, makes it highly suspect.

IMO, they need to lock up Paris, Britney (who apparently is doing just fine right now), and Lindsay Lohen. Lindsay is a talented actress, but she is very much a danger to herself and others. She is getting help right now but her parents are both assholes and need to take responsibility for their inability to parent their daughter.

That is exactly what these statements are, Andy, and I feel not one bit of sympathy for her. I've never figured out why she is even famous, besides her last name and those infamous sex tapes.

A friend of mine met her while she was filming the first year of the Simple Life and said she had no thinking brain.

I think the lot of those young Hollywood partiers need to be locked up. I can't believe that the producers of Lindsey Lohan's next movie are waiting for her.

O'Reilly tells Sharpton well how about that Thug rapper Snoop Dogg who was convicted on weapons and assault charges but didn't do any jail time because of who he is.

Of course the Reverend's answer to Bill was "If people called me to complain about it I would have investigated it"

Oh yeah, and Reverend, please stop calling yourself a "Civil Activist" you are a Black Civil Activist..and while you're at it tell me the name of ONE white folk you've defended.

You don't think that's true?

Why so bitter, Mike? I would also defend black people against racism. But I'm white so I suppose it's OK.

'Civil Activist' pertains to civil rights and how many white folks can you name who need defending from racism in court?

You don't think activists for certain groups are currently necessary but I'm curious if you think they ever were...?

Fiona, Al Sharpton wants to say everything is racist if he wanted to. He won't shut up his mouth about it. If you look at him the wrong way, he would call you racist probably.

I watched The View this morning and Barbara Walters did an interview with Paris from jail and she said she has "found God" and when she gets out of jail, she's going to change. Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. I think what she said to Ms Walters was probably scripted to make her look good.

I think the lot of those young Hollywood partiers need to be locked up.  I can't believe that the producers of Lindsey Lohan's next movie are waiting for her.

I can, she actually does have talent.

At what, getting attention?

Lindsay is actually a pretty good actress. Just because she is stupid in real life does not mean that her acting ability is not there.

She has barely been in jail for five f*cking minutes. It takes a lot of personal and spiritual reflection to to develope a new belief system. If it only took her that long to find God, about how long will it take her to forget about God again after she gets out? I'm betting less than 2 minutes.

I agree, Linda. As I've said already, I'll believe it when I see it. She's going to have a lot of trouble convincing people that she's changed. A lot of people will not take her seriously until she practices what she preaches.

MMM...Al Sharpton should take lessons from Martin Luther King if he EVER wants respect!!! He is a disgrace to not HIS race but the HUMAN race and when it comes down to it we are ALL just the Human Race...aren't we??....NOT an Al Shaprton fan but that is just my opinion! ;)

Personally, I think Al Sharpton has little to do with it. If he had not been the one asking for a list of people it would have been someone else.

What I object to is that he asked for a list of 'black people' rather than a list of all people with medical conditions similar to hers. If they need to be released due to medical conditions it should make no difference what their color is, and if Sharpton actually used the terms 'black people' then it turned it into a race play.

Baca made a BIG error in judgement which California courts (maybe all US courts) will be forced to address for quite sometime. Baca needs to be replaced...I think he overstepped his bounds. He is not a judge or an attorney.

Jana, actually Sheriff Baca was doing exactly what his dept normally does when it comes to a sentence like this. Normally probation violation means you go to jail for like 2 days (as stated before, I know as it has happened to my brother) up to 6 mos. Normally it is less than a week.

Her sentence is atypical, meaning that normally her sentence is about 20 days with most of that going to time off for good behavior (about 10% is automatically knocked off from the start). It is the sheriff's dept who determines who stays in jail and who goes. That's the way it has been in the Los Angeles jurisdiction for as long as I can remember. Normally the Sheriff's dept has a bad reputation on being more harsh on inmates than the police would, and that has always held up though Baca has cleaned up the dept quite a bit. As much as I don't like Baca for other problems going on around the County of Los Angeles, it was the judge that was a bit more harsh by sentencing her an extra day for each minute she was late (15).

She had no respect for the court and should have received an extra day for each minute she was late.
