Abbey Road on the River. Scranton, PA. 6-2-07.

No doubt there will be prodigious amounts of "Beatards" there.

If not obligated due to some prior lack of good judgement, why bother ? :sweet:

That was a fun conversation. One of us understood the other two and the other two are told to speak English. It may have been more 'Queen's English' but it communicated zero, nada, nil, zilch, tipota (that last one was for benefit of 'expanding your horizons!')

Geez, have you ever heard the sitcom "I Love Lucy?" If you haven't you should go watch it. Ricky used to tell Lucy, "Okay Lucy start 'splainin"". Oh maybe you don't want to watch it because you wouldn't understand Ricky.

Very interesting question.

I don't begrudge anyone their fun, but I for one can't stand the idea of the greatest music in the world being reduced to a Star Trek convention. And hey, I like Star Trek too, but that doesn't make someone wearing plastic vulcan ears any less kickable than some twit wearing a Beatle wig.
The dream is over. What can I say?

So maybe Past's comment about speaking english or emigrate was rather blunt.

I know plenty of people online who have reported having a fantastic time at AROTR. I'm not sure if it'd be my thing - I'm quite critical when it comes to Beatles tribute bands, but I'm certainly curious. Has anyone here been? :)

YES!! I have been to Abbey Road on the River and it is a FABULOUS time!!! I went all 3 years in Cleveland and once to Louisville KY- it is a wonderful, well put together 5 day event where you meet many wonderful people and hear great and not so great bands from all over the world. I have met most of then at one point or another and have many dear friends from those events-I was so sad when they left us to go south, but the venue there is beautiful-

Unless you have gone, don't knock it until you have tried it-

I wish I could have gone this year, but work is too busy and life is a little hectic at the moment- I WILL go again!

I truly enjoy knocking things before I've tried them.

It must be an inherited trait.

Young men in dress-up clothes and wigs. La de da.

You pays your money you takes your chances.

This is why I like the Fab Faux. No costumes, no makeup. Just note perfect renditions. You only think you know Savoy Truffle until you hear it live with real brass and strings ! ^_^

i'm rather critical as well Andy, so you aren't the only one.
However, I wouldn't mind hearing a great tribute band with the perfect pitch.
But the visual is always good to

I do know of some very good Beatle tribute bands. A couple of them pitch and note perfect. Don't go judging things you haven't given yourself the chance to try out. You never know it might either be you like it or you don't. You don't know until you try.

"Young men in dress-up and wigs, la de da." If only you knew how hard this really is. This business is very hard to break into and very hard to stay in. Only the really good and talented survive past the first year. The best survive past the 3rd year. Takes a lot more than just dress-up and wigs.

I've seen the copycats before. I've been there done that.

It's an exercise in futility.

But the worst, the absolute bane of my existence - is the Beatards.

The aging, balding, thick around the middle, singing in the lobby, bad tee shirts, goofy demeanor, low IQ, nowhere men & women.

They really trouble me. I leave depressed. I lose faith.

And I pay for this privilege ?

If you have ever heard or seen Hal Bruce, Tim Piper or All You Need is Love (band), you would understand the true talent of what the Beatles, as a group and individually, brought to our lives- Tribute?? Oh I think so!

These are true talents and performers in their OWN right- artists who love the Beatles and share with us all-

There are so many more- these are MY personal favorites (as well as friends) who I love to hear- If you have never gone to a fest, make it a point!

I believe many derive their sense of self-worth from communing with those who are needier. Those who feed others and fulfill that need.

The Beatles hated these kind of things. Hated these kind of people. Sorry kids.

No it's not.

I've never been to AROTR or a Beatles tribute concert for that matter, though I would love to see the Fab Faux, I have to admit.

I am such a John fan that I tend to think a lot like him, and I don't believe in recreations of the past. There's too much interesting stuff going on in the present. However, that wouldn't stop me from going to a Beatle Fest just to see what it's like, at least one time.

As someone who used date a Beatle impersonator....

PASS!

Why see people try to make a living off of someone else's fame and trying to be like them, so dumb. If you do it just for the music and have fun, yeah, ok. But for me, no more Beatle trib bands. I rather listen to nails on a blackboard than some of the trib bands that are around.

I'm really surprised at this...maybe since most of the times I have gone, I have met up or gone with people I met at PM.com and had a chance to put a person with a name- it has been great! I have enjoyed that as much as the bands, honestly- We have had some great times! I bet I have met over 100 people from the forums (some from here, too!)

To each his or her own- it is more of the "community spirit" that the Beatles brought us together under...

I love spending 3-4 full days and nights of hearing only Beatle music-

And Beat, the Fab Faux are absolutely wonderful- saw them in Cleveland for a full show last year- WOW!

I agree, 1964 does suck. They limit themselves to much. I have only heard the Fab Faux and they are very good.

I know Tim Piper and The Fab Four. Both are very much worth the listen and take their craft very seriously. I even know Gavin Pring, who is a part of the Fab Four and very much like George.

I have seen some outstanding groups and some not-so-outstanding but even with those, watch the kids, the families and I dare you to say that they aren't having a good time.

Just because you don't think it is hard being in a tribute band, does not make it so. A good, successful tribute band practices for weeks for one show. The travelling they do would make most people wonder if it is worth it. The heat they have to endure in those costumes, especially in the Cavern Club, have made some faint or come close to it. Most don't even have their own stage managers so they have to breakdown their own set. So yeah, I guess la de da is the right word for it. The fact that they don't get to see their own families very much really makes it la de da.
