I don't but wish I do. I know of a family that all have Prius. They love it. It is pretty quiet and not only saves on gas but also has pretty good power.

I have clients that have them and they love them--and they like the tax credits.

yeah, they just did away with the tax credit here so I'll miss out on that. It's a bit of a different car but I think it's pretty cool. It's a lot smaller than what I have now but I think that's ok too.

They're Walmart's corporate vehicle of choice. All of our Market Managers are provided with one. For a little car they have pretty good get up and go.

The concept will of course evolve over time.

These cars are not yet ready for prime time however. I've seen people speeding at ridiculously high speeds in my travels in the American North East. Perhaps they believe that they can waste fuel because they are saving it. :nono:

If it's not American, not worth looking at, to me.

Hi Irene,

My sister had one. She loved it. It's electrical dash went out, thank goodness it was under warrenty. She ended up selling it, because the battery will only last for so long. They are very expensive to replace. You might want to do some research into batteries. Other than that, she loved her car.
Hope that helps,
Carol

Why? Toyota assembles a lot of their cars here. They are a major employment force in the US.

And Japanese cars last so much longer. About 25 years ago, I had a Toyota that was going strong at 104,000 when I traded it in for a Ford Escort. That was a piece of junk and I traded that one for a Honda. I'm on a second Honda now. No major problems with the Toyota or two Hondas. Plenty of problems with the Ford.

Because Kathy I live in Detroit and see the factors of what happens when people buy foregin. My grandfather worked for GM for 30 years, my parents work for Big 3 suppliers, Skip's father worked for Ford for 27 years, plus I live in America. As long as I live in this country, I will only buy from the Big 3. I've owned all GM cars and never had any trouble with a single one. Yes, there may be American workers on other car companies' lines, but it's not from an American company. I stand by the American product and always will.

It's a shame that the American car companies haven't always stood by their American workforces.

If it helps the environment and it is proving popular, perhaps the US manufacturers should be looking at designing and building hybrids of their own.

It has always seemed to me that the Big 3 were more interested in big cars, like SUV's and power engines, than in a more efficient car at a lower price. That is why I quit buying one. The smaller cards they have built were terrible when it came to reliability.

apologies in advance if I 'hijack' your thread Irene but some of you may of read that I am 'car-less' at the moment :( :( and I am looking for a good reliable but cheap(ish) car

Now this 2 weeks I have been to all the local auctions, bidded on a few cars - but then bidding went stupid so stopped before I went over my budget.

I have been looking towards a renault megane/vauxhall astra or vectra or ford mondeo or escort.

Anyone have experience with any of these cars ?? are they reliable, parts cost wise, are they cheap??? what other cars would people recommend (I know toyota is a good make but expensive over here :hmm:)

any views much appreciated.

btw - engine size prefable 1.5 or less (tax reasons) but looking at 1.6's
