Molly, the problem is the way you often go all passive-aggressive on people when the discussion takes a turn that you, for whatever reason, disapprove of.

The issue of gun control is inextricably linked to this discussion because a headcase killed 32 people with guns. He didn't do it with a switchblade. Now you may find the connection of issues distatsteful, and that's you prerogative, but threatening a boycott isn't going to change people's minds or behaviour one way or another.

This thread is about the Virginia shootings and as such, the issue of gun control is inevitabley going to come up. One thing this thread is definitely not about, is whether Molly is going to post on it again. ;)
Put a puppet on it.

It's very sad that this man did not get the help he needed. I'm hearing his family said he had mental problems for years. How did he get this far through college with all that has come out about him? It's even sadder that he was able to buy a gun over the internet and a gun in a gun shop and kill 32 people, none of whom had done anything to him.

I feel for this family. I feel for the families of each and every victim in this horrible happening in this country. I hope some good will come from this--in the mental health field and in the area of gun control.

And to think he was reported by a teacher to the school and the authorities several times! Someone knew he was a ticking time bomb. :hmm:

Is the connection between the ultraviolent Korean film Oldboy and the shootings just a coincidence pieced together by a world grasping for answers or is it more than an all too common possibility?

This whole situation still makes me want to sit down and cry for those families.

Well, here's another clue for you all, the Walrus was Paul...
They had to evacuate a dorm at my sons campus Wednesday, because someone made a bomb threat and alluded to VT. Thank God he graduates in a few weeks.
Who would have ever thought that schools would be one of the most dangerous places to be????? :hmm:

I was up at the law library at my campus and seeing the cops around, watching, it just made me so scared. In a way, it's like re-living 9-11 for me. The fear just creeps back in.

Here's a video that a friend of mine made on the VT shootings.

In Paul's Arms!
This from the family of Seung-Hui Cho, a family in deep deep mourning:

Seung-Hui Cho's family speaks out.

I pray for them, too. I just hope that everyone can come to grips with their losses and can start rebuilding their shattered lives.

This might sound a little cynical, but how do you suppose Don Imus views all this?

He was evidently obsessed with that movie and his actions were, in some way, influenced by it, so it is certainly no coincidence. Still, the actions of MDC were influenced by Catcher In The Rye and The Bible and Charles Manson was influenced by The White Album. There's a huge difference between those things and Oldboy, of course, but I get the feeling that those people would have found any influence or reason to throw their actions back to society.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

We should ban influences. They can be deadly.

But then, people would just be influenced anyway, so why bother.
