What are everyone's plans for Easter? Do you go to church? Do you color eggs and go egg hunting with your kids (or relatives kids)? Do you just hog wild on chocolate bunnies and other goodies? Well, I'm heading to my Mom's this weekend and on Easter we are going to go up to my aunt and uncle's. My grandparents just moved back here from Arizona and they are going to come over too. We are going to have lamb and other goodies. My Mom will probably give me a small Easter basket and we'll probably color some Easter eggs. I'm usually not a huge fan of Easter, but this year I am, because I'll be seeing my aunt, uncle, grandparents and of course, my Mom.

I thought Easter was a day when lambs were supposed to be adored.
You know, barnyard fluffy animals and the lamb and the lion and all that...Anyway, Easter was always a fun holiday when I was a kid. I mean, lamb. I can't wait to have children so I have an excuse to do all those things again.

I go to church on Easter. I haven't done an Easter egg hunt in years. I don't think the kids around here would enjoy it that much. We don't color eggs either or eat chocolate rabbits. We mostly talk about Jesus and celebrate His life and Message of peace and love. People can debate Christmas trees all they want and use it as an excuse to be nicer to others - the more the better - but Easter is about Jesus, plain and simple. Happy Easter everyone. |

Color eggs, we don't hide them anymore the kids are too old, but we all love boiled eggs so it works out fine. We'll go put Easter Lillies on my grandparents graves |

This is going to be a really weird Easter for me. Since it's kinda inconvenient for my parents to pick me up, I'm staying at college for Easter. Maybe I'll go to church with one of my friends or something, but I dunno. Usually I go to church with my family and then have a little Easter egg hunt with my younger brother. Afterwords we have Easter dinner as a family. It's going to be sooo strange not to be with my family this year. |

Normally Easter is spent being with my mom and brother. This year I totally screwed up and planned a Vegas trip for that night instead. So we pretty much had Easter already. Did that on Palm Sunday. I may be able to go to sunrise services if the Hollywood Bowl is conducting them but likely will be spent at home with my boyfriend until we fly off for the night. Gonna be weird not being with family. I would go to my Church but our flight isn't conducive to the services. :hmm: Oh but I do intend on going to Good Friday service. Doubtful on Maundy Thursday, though. |

Unfortunatley, We who work in the medical field in the night can't really do much for Easter. Yeah, another one I have to work again this year. My kid is going to love this. Oh, I'll get to eat with my family, then it's off to the job I go. I do hope everyone here has a Happy Easter. :hmm: |

Not being a Christian, I don't 'celebrate' Easter. If people buy me chocolate eggs then I'll gladly eat them, but - to be honest - I wouldn't mind if they didn't. As for plans - well, I'll be working all weekend. Oh joy. I do, however, wish all of those who celebrate Easter a very happy holiday.

No Easter here, not being religious. Years ago my family would travel to some relavites, colour eggs and roll them down one of those curved roof tiles, covered by a blanket, trying to hit the others' eggs, collecting points. Old "pagan" ritual (germanic roots if I recall correctly). Not that we cared about old pagan rituals either. It was mainly a colourful distraction whenever there were young children attending who wouldn't otherwise would find the long dinners and walks in the woods all that exciting. We revisited it as sort of a means of distraction last year when a close relative had just passed away. Once again, newborn children in attendance made it worthwhile. This year, though - nothing. Will work and as is tradition over here, Swedish television usually airs Monty Python's The Life Of Brian around the Easter holiday. Love that! |

Well I won't be having any repeats of last Easter, feeling VERY hungover and tired from the night before (last year the night before I was at a welcome home party for my boyfriend and things were crazy). This year it's going to be a little sad as my traditions for the holiday are broken. I used to go with my mother and stepfather and siblings to my parent's golf club for brunch. After that we would go to my mother's to open our little Easter gifts from her and just hang out. Now that she moved south and I have another set of family to see thanks to my boyfriend, I'll be going to my grandmother's for dinner, stopping to see Skip's grandmother and giving her some flowers. Plus it's the first year anniverasy for me and Skip (we actually started "offically" our relationship on the 9th), so we're going to have a nice quiet evening together. |

Easter for us means going to church and getting together for a family dinner usually a ham with sides. I have TONS of Easter decorations but don't put them up anymore now that the kids are older. I always filled their Easter baskets with candy and I just quit that about 2 years ago! But I may do that again this year just for kicks. When they were little they always had special outfits to wear and we'd take lots of pictures. Now things are much more casual. |

Being one of them atheists, I don't care about easter either. It is, however, my least favourite holiday, because the food is so disgusting. The past few years I have started travelling during easter to avoid all those things I don't want to do. This year I am going to Budapest. Not bad. |

My parents are coming down along with Buffy and then we're gonna travel up north to visit my gramma's and the rest of the family up there. When I was little, we used to go spend the day at my uncle Johnny's house, he has this massive backyard and he'd put on an easter egg hunt and have like a total of 5,000 eggs to find. He still does this, mostly for his grandkids and the younger cousins. And the older cousins if they are there, they help the younger ones But I won't be this year, i'll be with my parents and my dog and my family from up north

Well, Fiona, my aunt is not a huge meat fan, so there will be a lot of vegatarian dishes there too. We are doing lamb mainly because of the carnavores in the group. Why is it you have to be religious to celebrate Easter? You could celebrate the new beginnings or Spring? My family wasn't religious but we celebrated Easter with Easter eggs, candy and just spending time with family. |

(((Fiona))) You don't need kids to do those things. Color easter eggs and hide those plastic eggs around the house for each other. Snuggle some candy in the eggs along with something fun you have to do for the person who has found the egg. Could get to be fun. Hanh Easter Bunny and colorful egg pictures for all to enjoy. Get a twiggy branch from a tree and hang your colored Easter eggs on it, that you blew the inside out (while still uncooked, lol). You'll be a pro by the time you have kids. Make a basket for Andy's girls. :-) |

That sounds lovely and very reminiscent of how we used to do it (but using a pussywillow branch) and I will definitely get back into the tradition when I can but I don't think Andy would really get enthusiastic about it for the timebeing nor would his children and ex-wife appreciate a gift from me. :hmm: You're very kind but don't worry about me, there's always next year and the year after that! We have wonderful Birthdays and Christmases.

We usually get together with my husbands parents, brothers and sister and their families...and his aunts, uncles and cousins on his mothers side. We rent rooms in a hotel (with a pool for the kiddies) and hang out and talk and play games (and drink) on Saturday night. Then Sunday morning we go to church and everyone puts out all the food that we all brought and have a buffet style dinner. It's fun.

well Good Friday is a big day in my home town - my lads play our local rivals - this year its at their ground, but i wont be going (at £17 a ticket & especially when its on the TV do you blame me :P) so i will spend the money instead on a few drinkypoo's, shouting at the blind referee (thats reminds me - need to get throat sweets too) and then celebrate loads when we thrash them
Saturday will be recovering from all the drinkypoos from celebrating our win, then will probably have a hair of the dog later on that night and come on here and post lots of nonsense as usual Sunday will be recovering again, but this time with lots of chocolate (well what I pinch from the witches because no-one buys me any eggs anymore ) and then go folks for a meal. Monday will be getting ready to party as my niece turns 1 on the Tuesday so we will probably take her out whilst its the bank holiday and spoil her rotten

AMEN Padre! After a Lent-ful of abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Fridays, strict fast all this Holy week, a week's worth of services and Liturgies, midnight tomorrow is the celebration of Christ's ressurection. Then we roll into the usual Sunday Liturgy. After receiving Communion almost all parishoners proceed into the hall for a traditional Pascha meal at around 2 in the morning. After a good night's sleep we will go to my mom and dad's and feast again. We do have an Easter egg hunt for the kids, and then I'll probably do another decidedly non-Greek Easter tradition-watch the end of the Masters Golf tournament.
I've included this article from Thursday's Chicago Tribune to help explain some of the Greek Pascha traditions. HAPPY EASTER (PASCHA) EVERYONE! Eggs dyed red, roasted lamb Greektown gets ready for Easter By Trine Tsouderos Tribune staff reporter Published April 5, 2007 It's Holy Thursday, and Greek restaurants up and down South Halsted Street have less than three days to roast hundreds of young spring lambs, dye thousands of eggs and simmer gallons of special Greek Easter tripe soup. "It's a really busy day," said Yanna Liakouras, manager of The Parthenon restaurant, which has been serving Greek Easter feasts for nearly four decades. Orthodox Easter falls on April 8 this year, with preparations beginning the Thursday before. When we visited, the restaurant was calm. A single lamb spun slowly on a spit, fat and juices dripping onto a pan with each rotation. By this weekend, five or six lambs will be turning on the spits at a time, the aroma of roasting herb-scented meat--the smell of Easter for many Greeks--filling the restaurant. The Greek Easter feast, featuring a lemony tripe soup (called mageritsa) made from innards, spit-roasted lamb and red eggs, marks the end of fasting on Easter Sunday. It's a huge day for Greek restaurants, which serve the meal to thousands of Greeks and non-Greeks alike on both Saturday and Sunday. It's such a busy weekend, diners should prepare by making reservations. The preparations are many. Part of Holy Thursday is spent dyeing eggs red, Liakouras said. The deep red color represents the blood of Christ, she said, while the egg represents life. Crates and crates of eggs piled high will need to be dyed to have enough to set on restaurant tables this weekend. "We have these big humongous pots on the stove boiling away with the red dye," she said. While the eggs are rolling around in the dye on the stove, cooks will begin preparing the mageritsa, a traditional Easter soup often made in the United States with tripe, liver and greens, Liakouras said. In Greece, the soup typically is made with intestines. Thursday is when cooks wash the greens and clean the tripe, she said. The rest of the soup will be finished Saturday. As will the roasted young spring lamb, the centerpiece of most Greek Easter meals, she said. On Saturday, the baby lambs from Colorado -- each 18 to 22 pounds -- are cleaned, washed and filled with salt, pepper and Greek oregano before being impaled on a spit, rubbed with seasoned olive oil and roasted for 2 1/2 hours each, she said. "Crunchy skin and nice, soft meat," she said. "Baby lambs are fatty. That's what makes them delicious." By Saturday evening, non-Greeks will be filling the restaurant to enjoy the mageritsa and lamb, she said. But it's not until after midnight mass that the Greeks arrive, streaming onto the streets of Greektown until the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, many carrying candles from church still lit with the flame passed around during mass. On that night, most families will have eaten and left by 2:30 a.m. It's not a mob scene, she said. "We get our fair share," she said. "It's not like the old days. Not that many people eat after midnight mass." "Sunday is the big day," she said. Families begin showing up around 1 p.m., she said, filling every seat in the nearly 500-capacity restaurant until about 7 p.m. And all through the day, families will arrive with giant pots in which to carry mageritsa back home. Others will come for cooked spring lambs for their own home feasts. Liakouras said one customer ordered nine young spring lambs for pick up Sunday morning. The bustle of Easter Sunday brings back memories for Liakouras, who gets a dreamy look in her eyes when asked what her mother served her to break the Easter fast when she was young. "Fried baby lamb chops and fried eggs," she said. "Doesn't that sound delicious?" Where to go to taste a Greek Easter feast Take a walk around Greektown this weekend, and you'll be able to smell the roasting herb-scented baby lamb. That's the smell of Greek Easter. Mouth-watering? Get a reservation and head to one of these restaurants: Athena Restaurant, 212 S. Halsted St.; 312-655-0000, athenarestaurant.com. Greek Easter dishes, such as mageritsa and baby barbecued lamb, are available a la carte. Everyone gets red eggs and Easter cookies. Prices have not been set yet. Costa's Greek Dining and Bar, 340 S. It is about Jesus, but it isn't only about Jesus. That's not really fair. I realize that for you, and for many many people, it is and I most certainly wouldn't have felt the need to respond if you hadn't brought up these 'excuses'. No one religion should stake the claim on a holiday, especially when there is so much evidence that it's a celebration which has accumulated many aspects from various places over the years. I think the Christmas tree and Easter egg argument is a fair one but don't worry; according to the Pope, us heathens have a better chance of being converted if we're allowed to keep our silly traditions on the same day that Christians celebrate the light of Christ.

I don't know what it was called, but there was a festival of new life at this time of year long before the Christian concept of Easter. There's nothing at all wrong with it being absorbed into Christianity as the time we remember the crucifixion and Resurrection, but it would be historically incorrect to say that Easter is only about Jesus. Now if we were talking about Good Friday, that's all Jesus. |

Good Friday (yesterday) was far church and reflection, but Easter Sunday (tomorrow) is all about chocolate! Charlotte is only just starting to realise what the Easter Bunny is all about, so it will be exciting for her. I'm going to hide eggs for her after she's asleep tonight. Then we'll go on a picnic lunch with my Mum and Tina, then home again for coffee and hot cross buns. I did my Easter presents today - I got a packet of chocolate-covered coffee beans from my sister (yum!) and a Turkish Delight egg from Dad - as well as a copy of Ringo's Postcards From The Boys.

SORRY! That was truly NOT my intent! (But it is an accurate portrayal of our traditional Paschal feast.) I assume you are talking about the baby lambs. At least I didn't include the picture that accompanied the article.

I know you didn't mean to upset anyone, but the picture in my mind is surely worse than any picture you could've posted. Just the same, thanks for NOT posting the photo. |

Jehovah witness don't believe in Easter but, they believe in Jesus and they talk about him and pass wine and bread. but, your not to drink or eat it. why, they believe that there only 144.ooo to be chosen to live in heaven. The rest will be risen and bought back from death in a new world. this world a Paradise. and we will be perfect for all are sins are forgiving after we die. |

Andy is so sweet. He hid chocolate eggs around the flat (it was something my family used to do). I have the best possum partner in the world.

Happy Easter everyone! Friday we colored Easter eggs with 6 of the grandkids. We even colored our own dozen eggs after the kids were done. Saturday, I started prepping for the dinner for tomorrow. Filled 6 baskets with goodies and a DVD and kites. Sunday, the grown kids and grandchildren will be here for dinner and my sister and her hubby too. We'll do an Easter egg hunt and hide the baskets too. We have 7 pies for 14 people.....lol. Have dessert, watch a movie we all can enjoy, I think it's Charlotte's Wed this year and just relax.... Till Mother's Day.....then the guys take over. We're all Queen for the day. |

We went for a wonderful Easter dinner at my sons house. They are always soooo thoughtful about me being vegetarian and make sure there is plenty for me! My darling daughter-in-law always tries to cook something new and different for me. This time it was "Cheesy Squash"....my GAWD it was good!....recipe to follow at the bottom! Then we watched a movie and enjoyed being together. Cheesy Squash Cut yellow squash into chunks or large slices, into a large skillet you can put a lid on. Use fresh jalapenos and deseed them and slice them in strips onto the squash. Kind of judge the peppers to taste. When they are seeded they really are not hot at all. Put quite a bit of butter onto the squash and put the lid on the pan and let the squash cook until it is tender and just starting to brown. You can keep stirring it. Once the squash it tender cut Velveeta Cheese into it and let it thicken. Thats it! It was VERY good! |

Well, I spent most of the Easter weekend flat on my stomach - I did something strange to my back and was pretty much immobile for three days. However, I had plenty of lovely visitors, and the picnic lunch that I was supposed to be having with my Mum and sister was relocated to my bedroom. |
| I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me. | |

I had a weekend similar to that once, but it had nothing to do with Easter. |
