Baptism; Charlotte's Big Day

I just had Charlotte baptised today. She was awfully cute in the little satin dress that my Mum had made her. She looked angelic as we walked up to the font on the altar. She let the Father bless her and put her symbolic robe on. It was going well.

Then her Godmother lifted her up towards the font to let the Father pour the Holy Water over her forehead. Lotte chose that moment to scream "HELP ME!!" and kick out. Alison (her GM) dropped her and she fell in the font.

I was so embarrassed. We fished her out and continued. There were three other girls to be baptised, and Charlotte complained all the way through the ceremonies - "I'm WET, Mummy!!" - and then proceeded to undress herself.

Pray for us. We're gonna need it. :duh: :giggle:

Oh Clare, I am laughing my butt off. I can just picture this.

So, she actually became drenched? Poor baby - don't mean to laugh, but this strikes me as so hysterical.

That is very true, Andy.

I got fooled even before I got out of bed today. Julie woke me up and said "Wake up, I have something for you" She gave me a chocolate, but it was only chocolate paper... :(

Is it common to wait so long for Baptism Clare? My Godson was done at about 3 months and so was I.
None of my business, I'm just curious. :)

Well I wasn't baptized until I was 21. Even though I've always been a believer, and was saved at 17.

I was all set to have Charlotte baptised at about 7 months old, but as it turned out we weren't in the position to have that done then. Basically, some sh*t went down and by the time I was ready to start attending Mass again, she was already three.

Two of the other girls were infants, but there was a 12 year old too. :)

PS I wasn't baptised myself until I was 16.

I'm sorry Clare, but this is something that you and Lotte will remember for the rest of your lives with fondness...you can't top that!

I was baptised in the Catholic church as an infant, so I have no recollections and nothing to 'report'.

I know it does, but it's not, really!

Our church performs baptisms on the first Sunday of every month. It just happened to fall on April Fool's Day!

Oh boy do I. I had one of those "real" baptisms. They stood me in a pool, held on to me, and FULLY submerged me in the water. They told me that by the look in my eyes, I had the Holy Ghost as soon as I came back out of the water. I insist it was the fact that I was fully under water.

'Real' Baptism? All Baptisms are 'real' as along as the water has been blessed. My daughter is no less a Catholic than you just because she had the Holy Water poured over her head, and you went through a full-immersion.

Ohhh, I didn't mean it that way. Notice the quotes around real. I said it that way because they kept calling that way the real way. I would've prefered the other way, actually. Sorry about that.

Ah Clare, I'm so sorry to laugh but that is really funny!.

It's nice that you got some before pictures though.
Apart from being drenched I hope Charlotte had a good day.
When I was baptised my lovely white gown and everything in the room got covered in soot just before we were due to set off for the church (coal fire in those days) I was only a wee baby a few weeks old at the time so I don't remember a thing about it myself.

Kids are so much fun, aren't they Clare? You will have laughs over that moment for years to come! These times are priceless.

Do you write things down in a memory book for her? I did that for my kids so they know what nutty things they said and did. :)
And in the end...The love you take..Is equal to the love you make.

Wait until she has communion Clare! That's the nightmare, most girls love the dress and veil, most don't. In fact I climbed out of the window and onto the garage roof on the day I had first communion, there was no way in hell I was going to wear that stupid veil!

over here in the UK they are phasing out communion dresses :( :(

Kristine (eldest) had a communion dress - Paula (youngest) couldn't have one as the school decided that their first holy communion was going to be in their school uniform and during a school day :( :( she got terribly upset :( but i explained to her no matter what she was wearing she was recieving something special and she accepted that.

Clare - hope Lottie as recovered from her 'dunking' lol :P and i hope you enjoyed your large drinks after it too ;)

Are they really Jayne?! Why's that? As much as I whined about it at the time, I now think I was pretty cute in it. To some outside the Catholic church, such things like this are silly, but I love the little traditions like that. Sad that they're phasing them out.

Clare, you look so proud and relieved(!) that the whole episode has ended. :boogie: I hope you went straight home and had a good, stiff drink! Lord knows you earned it. ;)

Lotte looks so sweet and innocent in that sweet little dress. No outward signs of the storm that was brewing on the horizon! I'm thinking if you could somehow just get that photo of Lotte hiding beneath the pew published, then maybe Paul could be lured back to Australia. How would he be able to resist? It looks like he and Lotte are hiding out together!
