http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17050167/ MSNBC staff and news service reports Updated: less than 1 minute ago Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel and being being rushed to the hospital, one of her lawyers said. Smith collapsed in her room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and was rushed to a hospital on Thursday. A Hollywood, Fla., fire department spokesman told MSNBC TV that the actress was unresponsive when the rescue unit arrived on the scene and had been intubated. Smith was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. EST and her attorney confirmed that she had died nearly an hour later. On Tuesday, Smith and the diet products company TrimSpa Inc., for which she is a spokeswoman, were sued in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight loss pill is false or misleading. |

It is all over the TV right now. It is for real. I find it heartbreaking. A little baby girl is going to grow up with all of this hanging over her head. |

Just saw this on the news, and I can't say I'm surprised. Anna was being compared to Marilyn Monroe. Sure there are a few similarities between them and they way they died, but Anna Nichole was no way in the same league as Marilyn. That is one messed up family, and I'm sorry that their problems have resulted in these two consecutive deaths. |

This happened about 20 miles from me... The whole Anna Nichole Smith story is a very strange one. I just watched a special about her and the baby and how Howard K? Stern isn't really the father, etc. Her whole life was odd and she definately had some serious issues. It's sad though, especially with the new baby. Wonder what will become of the paternity issue... What a mess...

I can't say it's a complete shock to me either as her whole adult life seemed to be a car crash. She did very little to deserve her fame or money, but she was extremely young to die and the fact that she leaves behind a young child makes this death tragic. |

I find it tragic beyond belief, because there is a brand new life in this equation. A little girl who is going to have hurdles to jump that no human being should have to endure and all because of who she was born to. I find Anna`s plight to be sad beyond belief because she most certainly was a lost soul, and she had to endure the death of a child. No matter how frivolous or shallow you may want to portray her, there is no way in the world any of us can know how it feels to lose a child unless you have lost one. I only have a small glimpse into that pain based on my own particular family experience. My cousin was brutally murdered in 1980 and while he was only my cousin, I was certainly a witness to his mothers pain, and to me he was a brother. But the sad fact is that this child right now is a pawn. She was already a pawn before her mother died. Why did it matter so much to Larry Birkhead that he be legally recognized as her father. Why did it matter so much to Anna that he not be. I don`t know the answers to those questions but the only thing that really matters is that this child has some real stability and nurturing and everything that can be done to make sure she can thrive and be the best she can be in spite of all the horror surrounding her young life thus far. |

Again, I find this tragic, but not a huge surprise. She has looked totally wrecked in recent interviews. Maybe now she will finally find some peace. |

I am so shocked at this news. She was too young for this to have been natural causes. I wonder if she was drinking and mixing drugs since some of you mentioned she was slurring her words and acting drunk. Maybe that was a fatal combination of the two. It makes me sad to hear when anyone dies like this and it is tragic for the baby she leaves behind. What a sad, sad life Anna led.

I had not paid a lot of attention to her until recently, when her son died. Now I am wondering where she got her money from. I see that she was awarded money by the courts but it was overturned, and she was not an actress or singer, and I know she did not come from a rich family. |

"In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million. He died in 1995 at age 90, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate. A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million. That was later overturned. But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson." Yes, she married an 89-year old man. I wonder what it was that attracted her to that multi-millionaire? |

If she was mixing medication with alcohol and getting absent minded from the two, she may have taken too much by accident. Such a sad story ~~ and for all of you who think money buys happiness, Anna is a perfect example that it doesn't. I feel sorry for her daughter. She'll never have a relationship with her mother, never know her brother either, and then there's all the trash she'll end up reading when she grows up. Sad story. |

He was there for BOTH her son AND now Anna? Hmmm....he needs to get a lawyer! And, they said that methadone was in Anna Nicole's baby's blood system when she was born. Double hmmmmm.....methadone addicitons seem to run amuck in this family!

I used to watch her show on TV...not many of them, they were awful, but those I did see showed Anna to be "out of it" most of the time, or at least that's how she came across to me. Her son David mostly seemed to try to avoid the cameras, and Howard K. Stern seemed to be everywhere with her. Heck, I thought they were going to be married there, for a while! Anna never really had much going for her...that's why she latched on to the multi-millionaire. As far as I know, she never did inherit his fortune, his son was forever taking it back to court to contest it. Merry |

Well I was honestly surprised to see that news appearing on the front page of yahoo! when I went out there this afternoon ... and Molly, I don't think you're being quite fair here. I mean, she did live a very public life and while some people have the luxury of keeping their "bad habits" out of the glare of the spotlight she didn't do that. In some respects it almost seemed like she bought into the notion that "any publicity is good publicity" mantra. Now granted, she was not terribly worldly even though she was flung onto the main stage there for a bit of time ... in truth, I honestly think she was just someone that desperately wanted to be liked and was willing to allow far too many people to have control of a plethora of aspects of her life in the pursuit of that acceptance. It is a sad story, but it is not entirely that surprising in retrospect. I'd almost suspect that aside from the potential for some type of substance abuse issue being involved that ultimately this is a woman that quite possibly had a heart attack. I say that due to the type of stress that she was faced with over the past several months (dare I say years?) and the fact that she probably didn't lose the weight that she lost in a manner that was entirely healthy. Her heart probably just couldn't keep up with the mayhem that she was subjecting it to, and yes we could get poetic about that and say that she died of a "broken heart" if that indeed does end up factoring into it. Of course this is just preliminary speculative commentary ... but sometimes people don't have the coping mechanisms to keep up with the life that they choose to lead. I hope the little girl ends up having a life that's much more balanced than that that she most likely would have had if this wouldn't have happened. Now that might be seen as a harsh statement, but sometimes harsh statements are just statements that are misconstrued or misinterpreted. |

In Paul's Arms!
|
Beep, Icarus unfortunately we will never know how her life WITH her mother would be since she is now WITHOUT her mother. Good or bad Anna Nicole was a mother to her baby girl. The paternity suit will be playing out in Los Angeles tomorrow, apparently it was scheduled anyway for the dna to be handed in. At the moment, on our local news, his attorneys are asking for an emergency paternity suit to go through on friday. I am shocked, but like many of you, not surprised. Still a life is lost, a life that has an infant at home, an infant who has no mother or big brother. Incidentally, supposedly she had a high fever, people who talked to her the day before her death have stated she sounded like she had the flu, a private nurse made the call (no one knows why she had a private nurse there) for the emt's. If the high fever and feeling 'flu-ish' is true, this could mean that she had what killed John Ritter (and nearly killed a friend of mine), a tear in the arterial wall of her heart. She most certainly had a sad, harsh life and tried to pattern herself after her idol, Marilyn Monroe but unlike Marilyn she had an infant and apparently people who cared and loved her. Sad, so sad. |

Hey dude, I totally understand. Sometimes people don't really have the "true grit" necessary to allow another human being to have the spotlight, even if that human being is one that they themselves brought into the world ... and is essentially a helpless little thing that depends upon them to do that. That's not a judgment call, that's reality. If it weren't there wouldn't be any number of travesty's that the human family is faced with ... and neglect and abusive behavior is cyclical, it doesn't just "happen" it's learned, cultivated and propagated outward like a ripple in a pool of water when a stone is thrown into it. As I stated, my heart goes out to the situation ... and I do hope that she finds peace on the other side ... where the spiritual influences might not be so easy to avoid or evade. Might sound a bit esoteric or haughty, but as I understand it ... that's the way it goes. |

Just a side note, I actually think that Marilyn did have people that cared, but sometimes that's not enough ... especially when they aren't the people that the individual would prefer to have cared. Joe DiMaggio was planning on remarrying Marilyn ... he'd revealed that prior to his passing. |

Instead of you being yet another person here who jumps on the 'bashing group' bandwagon, why don't you feel that it's tragic that she gave birth to a new baby, the father has yet to be determined, the baby lost her only brother, and the Mother Anna Nicole Smith led a very drug and booze oriented life that maybe was the direct cause of her sudden collapse and ultimate death. To me, however sad as it is, is also grossly negligent as a mother on her part. The only victim of all this is the baby. Oh yeah, and sad for what she went through? She was a celebrity, had her own show, was a playboy bunny.....yeah real sad. And then there are the other idiots that say oh Brittney Spears, who cares if she's out all night and her baby is with the Nanny. Well this is what happens when you mix booze and drugs. |

Well although I thought she was a character, I watched her show on several occasions while channel surfing...(ok, I stopped because of her boobs, ya happy now Chad?) But seriously, almost everytime I watched she was bombed out of her head. It was almost as bad as watching those greaseball Guidos on Growing up Gotti. |

Using her relationship with her son as a measuring stick, it sure doesn't appear that she would have had a loving, nurturing "Hey mom, let's go to the mother-daughter picnic together" relationship. But hey, I'm a cynic. |

Thanks. I do have a heart, and sometimes I think some people around here don't really have a heart or have no sensitivity at all or they would keep their harsh words to themselves. |

Molly, it's not that. Not everyone is as sensetive as most and are more straight forward and aggresive. That's life. Just like you're born and then you die. |

AMEN!! People can be so dis-respectful to those that have passed on, Its sick! Yes, so she did drugs, yes she had a messed up life. I watched the Anna Nicole Smith show myself, and saw her all slurry. However, as its in my nature to do so.. I did see the good in her. She loved Daniel. She loved her baby and like any mother, when their children have passed on they grieve. Some can take the pain, and some can't, unfortantly. I'm sad to see that Anna died the way she did, shocked, yes, stunned, yes. This is very tragic, and it almost reminds me of the "kennedy curse" Where one Kennedy died after another. First, J.Howard, Then J.Howard's son, then Daniel, now Anna. Something seems fishy. |

I predict she will become a great sexual icon in the vain of Marilyn Monroe and Jane Mansfield. With all of her obvious personality and personal flaws, she really did have a unique and rare quality as to sex appeal. At least that what I saw. Had she had better management and people around her, she could have been a major star... |
