What did your ancestors sound like?
Many people on the board have ancestral links to Britain and the UK if you want to hear what your ancestors may have sounded like

Click on an area on the map in the link below and listen to people from various areas around Britain having a chat. :yammer:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/voices/recordings/

Even if you are not a descendant you might find quite interesting listening in to the various snippets of conversation It's a bit like eavesdropping. :innocent:

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
This could very interesting and I will have a listen as soon as my husband shuts off the vacuum cleaner. :D
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

I WAS ROBBED BY THAT DEVIL WOMAN

This is very interesting to listen to, Sandra. I know my decendants are from the UK but wouldn't have a clue which part.

It's amazing how many different accents there are.
And in the end...The love you take..Is equal to the love you make.

well one is very old almost a hundred and at that age every one is hard to understand ( ie the port st mary) my great uncle willie was in his ninties when i met him in 70 or 71 and he was hard to understand, but we as children didn't have any problem and i dont have any problem with friends kids, who moved to douglas in the eighties.

now dotty is a problem but that maybe just because she is dotty.

This is very interesting, Sandra, thank you!

I know my father's mother came from Dundee, but I couldn't find it on the map, so I settled for Glasgow, which I assume isn't that far away.

The lilt isn't that hard to understand, if fact I find it quite pleasant to the ear. I wish I knew more about that side of the family.

Glasgow is not far at all from Dundee Merry but the accent is quite different.

It was quite a posh Glasgow accent that I listented to.

Isn't there? I didn't realise that.

I was trying to find a Wolverhampton I worked with a girl from there years ago and I could rarely understand a word she said and I think I've got quite a good ear.

Thank you, (((Sandra)))!

As soon as I get back to my place later on, and get my net access back, I will listen, I'm looking forward to it!

I love all the accents I've heard so far.
