Hey everybody! I've been wanting to make action photos out of stills from dvd recording I have made. I mainly want to make ones of my oldest son's last football season (catchig passes, running with the football, and making tackles). Just pressing the "print screen" button will not do the trick. Is there any inexpensive program out there that I can buy, or is there something I can download to my computer that will do the trick? Thanks for your help.....Olen

Great photos Olen. If you find out how to do it let me know. I'd like to get some action shots from some of Paul's old games. |

I don't know Olen. I did receive a DVD where somebody had set a bunch of stills to music and made chapters. I asked how it was done and got a lot of technical stuff I didn't understand. I think he said he used two different programs and neither were free. |

Olen ... not sure if you've got some software purchase in mind for this but the print screen could work if you know how to do it. Here's the trick ... (1) make sure that you can see the system tray at the bottom of the screen when you try it (i.e. hit the [Esc] button to minimize it to where you can use the keyboard) (2) activate the window where the DVD is playing and then hit [Alt] + [Print Screen] (3) go to your Windows [Start] menu and specifically go here: [Start] > [Programs] > [Accessories] > [Paint] (4) After you've got the "Paint" application running just go to the [Edit] menu and select [Paste] This is all presuming that you're running a Windows Operating System rather than a Mac of some sort. The [Alt] + [Print Screen] should capture the specific window that you've activated as opposed to the entire desktop ... if you want to capture the entire desktop then the keystrokes would be [Ctrl] + [Print Screen] by the way. Once you've got something showing in the "Paint" application you can trim the edges and then save it as a JPG ... that'll give the better resolution than a BMP file, although you might wanna go with a GIF format if you're concerned about space (i.e. file size). Otherwise invest in some software and get busy with it all.

OMG, I just was able to do print screen of my entire desktop. I've never had anyone explain it to me so well. Thank you. Next question, how do you get them to a DVD with music? |

If you have PowerDVD to play your dvd's on your computer, there's a feature that automatically makes a picture of the scene when you press the C or space button ( I forgot which one ).Anyway...a lot of dvd playing software has this feature installed. There's no need for printscreen and paint.

Conversely you could check out what download.com has on the subject. They've got things out there that can be downloaded for free trials and such, not just this type of thing but things like adaware and Spybot S&D (that's for spyware, malware and adware removal). Just a good site for checking out these sorts of things, here's a minor search that I did on the subject for you: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?t...t=convert%20dvd The links at the bottom of the page would probably be more useful for your situation. You could also try something like DivX Converter, that might do it ... but as I stated, if you just wanna see if you can do it with what you've got onhand go for the technique that I suggested, by the way when I mentioned "activating the screen" I just mean to click it once to make sure that it's the thing that gets captured when you do the [Alt] + [Print Screen] keystroke (depress the [Alt] key and then hit the [Print Screen] key). Good luck with that regardless of which way you go with it. |

I have Adaware and need to download Spybot again. I had to take it off my computer because it must have gotten corrupted. It stopped working. |

The trick with Spybot is to make sure that you enable the "Teatimer" feature during the installation process ... that'll place a little icon in your system tray that'll notify you if anything is trying to affect your system's registry or install itself without you're being aware of it. For some reason that feature isn't automatically set to work without you placing a checkmark in the proper field during installation. Although if you go into the "Administrative" mode and go to the [Tools] area on the left side of the screen you should be able to activate it after installation too. By the way if anyone is looking for something other than Symantec or Norton for their anti-virus protection I'd suggest that you go with AVG from Computer Associates. It's totally free and it's a pretty good firewall too, granted it does require a little configuring to do the trick ... but I got tired of being drained by the "big boy's" on a yearly basis and ended up going with the AVG ... you can download it from the download.com site too. |

Thanks Dom, although I think I've drifted off the original intent of Olen's so I can only hope that he's alright with that when he comes back through.

I now have an icon in my tray and spybot is running. I do have AVG free edition and also their free anti-spyware and I never use Internet Explorer. I only use Mozilla Firefox. |

I'll attempt to redeem myself here a little, Olen take a look at this one: http://www.m2solutionsinc.com/pro-features.htm There's a free trial that you can do a test drive with and the overall price isn't too hefty either, of course the format might limit it's viability ... it's probably propitiatory (what the heck does that mean?? ... I meant "proprietary" by the way ~ LOL). |

As it turns out "propitiatory" is a good word, and it actually has a meaning too. Granted it wasn't what I meant right there, but nonetheless. Propitiate: to cause to become favorably inclined; win or regain the good will of; appease or conciliate. Okay ... I'll try to curb my urges to go off-topic on this one for a bit, I'm like totally talking to myself or something and the kitties are giving me questionable looks (I think I still need to seriously consider that lawsuit against the youngest one ... 'course if you haven't followed the thread where I volunteered she scratched me then you might just think I'm a loon again).Ode to being a loon. |

The Print Screen function doesn't usually work with video. However, whatever your software DVD player it, there should be some kind of snapshot funtion on its toobar that will copy the chosen frame to the clipboard and allow you to paste it into your photo editor. |

I just made a DVD of my grandchildren to music. I was able to spin, add rain, fog, etc., to the video. It wasn't hard, I have an Apple, PowerBook G4. I will have to get a case of DVD to play with. |
