In one of the game threads a question was asked who on the board would you like to meet, the answer was everybody. I feel the same way. I have been fortunate to meet some of our members already and I must say they have been very enjoyable experiences. There is already a thread about a new London meet up and I do plan to attend that but think we on this side of the ocean should try to organize one as well. Las Vegas Now the argument for Las Vegas is that with so many hotels it is quite affordable. Love is playing at the Mirage and there is even a tribute band ala Beatlemania on the strip too. New York City The case for NYC is good too. Hotels are in abudance and with the great transportation system even economicly priced motels in New Jersey can be considered. The Dakota, Paul’s offices, The Ed Sullivan Theatre, and of course Strawberry Fields all can be visited. Other Maybe instead of something Beatles oriented just a plain old group meet can be arranged. Chicago, St Louis, Orlando, Alabama? Anywhere where friends can gather and meet could be fun too. This poll is just to gage interest in setting up a meeting here, not set one in stone. After all if Paul announces tour dates many of us will probably decide to meet up at different concerts as well. Then there is affordability, maybe instead of trying for this year we could plan ahead for next. What do people think? |

The combination of 4 kids under 13 and self employment is killer for me in terms of meet-ups. When Paul was playing in Chicago I couldn't do pre-concert meet-ups because I had a kid with me. (Did wave to Judy from the balcony at the last show at the United Center.) Anyway not trying to sound like a crybaby here but fatherhood and finances made me vote for other and that other is obviously Chicago. Central location, Fest for Beatle fans in August. That would give me the best chance to attend. Advance notice would be a second consideration. I'll be attending a Dental convention in Las Vegas, November the 15th I believe, and LOVE is definitely on the menu then. (Hopefully I'll meet Anna too but not if the Chargers beat the Bears in the Super Bowl. )Memorial Day weekend I believe many members get together at AROTR or some such thing in Louisville????? Of course in March there is the Fest in NY/NJ. I've always wanted to go there because there is a large contigent of fans there already. (and for the sites you mentioned as well.) And of course in Southern Cal we have a large contigent. On a personal note it would involve visiting my sister-in-law so I vote for all other options first! (j/k Tina)Great thread Tony, I hope something massive comes of it. Maybe if we're lucky and there is enough lead time we''ll get some foreigners too. |

That gets my vote! It's central and full of kick-ass bands. Plus, Louisville is a better city than it gets credit for. |

I've had the very good fortune of being able to travel whenever and wherever. I've been to Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Strawberryfields(countless times as I live about 30 mins. from there) Buffalo, and have met more than 50 board members personally. I picked Strawberryfields and the Dakota because it's so close to me, but towards then end of the year when Paul starts touring again in August, I will travel to other places where I haven't been before like California, Florida (I mean i've been to both but not to meet board members) want to go to Vegas at the end of the year to see LOVE, maybe make some , and I have also been approached and almost convinced to go to AROTR but we'll see about that. (Kentucky)Oh yea, been several times to the New Jersey Beatlefest and this year it's March 16-18. at the Crowne Plaza in Secaucus. |

I chose NYC because it's the closest and cheapest for me. I'd love to go to LV, but it's too expensive. My other choices would be Toronto and Boston. Boston would be cool, because I wouldn't have to pay for a hotel room.
And Toronto would be awesome because i have friends in another group I could meet up with while I'm there.

I would love to do this, but don't really see how I could make it in the summer. Beginning in March starts my big wedding season and sports season and I do heavy photography all the way thru October. I voted for other, but not sure if I would ever be able to make any of it in the summer, no matter where it was...

Well, Vegas gets my vote, because it's close to me, I enjoy the selection of nice hotels and restaurants and because LOVE is such a wonderful show, I would love to see it again -- especially with old friends and new from this board.
I can't get away during the late spring/early summer, due to work commitments and those last 2 weeks of August also have me tied down with work. Other than that, if the time is right, I would gladly get on a plane and travel to any of these sites, given enough advance notice.

I can't afford a hotel in NYC, as much as I want to go there again. I can get a cheap flight to Vegas and summer is the off season. I would definitely need advance notice. I can't go at the time the Fest will be in Vegas. I also can't go anywhere from June 19-27 (I will be in Iowa with my family) and I plan to be in first Chicago and then Iowa August 3-12. I'd have to clear it with my new boss. |

I have a vacation committment for june so that month is out for me , and I plan to also have a committment in august as well. I would dearly love to go to a meet up with boardies but please do not pick and choose dates based on what is best for me. If it is meant to be I will be there and if not then I will certainly work towards it for future get togethers. I am also becoming a first time granny this spring so most of my disposable income for 2007 has already been dedicated to little Ian. |

Thanks Linds, granny is so proud that she has been able to provide the crib for him. Melissa decided that she wanted one of those sets that will grow with the baby, can convert to a toddler bed and then a big boy bed. I had offered her Marys crib as she was the only Bunn child to ever use it. Was bought brand new for her, but I understand Melissa`s desire that Ians bed be one no one else ever used. So grandma and grandpa will bring M`ells crib out of the attic and set it up in the spare room for when we get to babysit. For Christmas we were able to give Melissa and her husband the funds to get the bed for their baby that they have their heart set on. |

Wow this would be great if we could agree to a meetup. I suppose that after a while, if it seems that the poll is tending to favor one place over another, it could be there and maybe, Tony you could decide when? I would love to go to one. I picked NYC just because that is closest to me but basically who knows honestly if I could make it wherever (just due to life and family commitments, after all I am a mom to a little one). I will try though.

This is just me testing the waters. Who knows maybe we could do something like a family reunion and rotate locations. One year NYC, the next Vegas, maybe Orlando sometime, or even a campground in Boaz. Who knows maybe even plan a Yankee invasion of London or Australia. Group rates can make an expensive trip less so. |

Since New York is the greatest city in the history of the world I would vote for it, but it gets a little warm in the summer (I would imagine Las Vegas does as well). New York has many Beatle related tourist spots. Visitors can annoy Yoko Ono at home, step on used gum on the Imagine mosaic and tour any number of bars where John Lennon expelled stomach contents through a wide variety of orifices. Then again, Las Vegas has a circus show. It just seems logical that a message board called Strawberry Fields would meet at a place called Strawberry Fields. I am not saying this because I can walk there in five minutes. I say this because I do not like Las Vegas. |

Why is it when someone mentions a meet up people go, "Oh no, let's go to this place." "No, that place would be too expensive for me, let's go here, it's much closer." Also, you'll get people complaing about how they can't go because of the expense of everything and how they wished they could go, and then someone always tells that person to save money and stop complaining. No matter what group I'm in this happens. Just being observant. I'm definately hoping for a NY meet, because it's eight hours by bus for me and I don't think the cost is too much, or I could check Amtrak. |

I haven`t seen any evidence on this thread of anyone complaining. Merely people stating what their personal limitations are. This is a fairly large continent so it isn`t like we live around the corner from one another where we could have a weekly get together rotating around various restaurants or members homes that was open to all who wanted to come and hang out and have a chat. Meet ups that involve people that are scattered about and of differents ages and economic circumstances require a little bit of planning to work the bugs out. How is that complaining. I thought we were all communicating. |

Then please forgive me if I misunderstood what you were trying to say. By bringing that up in this thread to me seemed as if you were implying that discussing this had either already led to trouble or would lead to trouble. I seriously doubt that this is going to be the case. And even if something of that nature should occur here why taint the waters with such a suggestion before the fact. When you make post like that is when things tend to get inflamed and negativity enters into the picture. Please don`t pre judge the membership of this board based on bad behavior exhibited in other discussion groups you have been a part of in the past. It is not fair to us. |

Having members spread far and wide, it's natural that any given place, be it New York, Lafayette or Moose Jaw is going to be closer for some than it is for others. While meet-ups are cool and I wish I could participate in more, the ability to go along to one doesn't necessarily make one more or less of a friend and no-one should feel bad or left out if they can't go for whatever reason. There's no obligation either way.

You can do Vegas on the cheap or you can go the expensive route. I do it cheaply as I don't gamble. Yes, the Love shop at the Mirage is expensive, but nobody is making you buy anything. I don't gamble, so I don't blow a bunch of money there. I put a whole $20 in a Love slot machine when I was there, but now that I've done it, I don't need to do that again. |

Surpisingly no. You can do many things in vegas for FREE... you can eat cheaply ($1.99 Steak and eggs), you can stay in the hotels cheaply. The shows and stuff are a bit pricey.. but there are some that you can get from the half price ticket booth... and there you go. Cheap. If you gamble then you could end up spending more then you want... I love vegas... hence why i have been here for going on 3 years... its my home... |

The only way I could go to Vegas is if the flights were under $100, which I know there aren't, and if the hotels were under $50. The only hotels in Vegas that are under $50 are probably really sleezy in bad neighborhoods. I do want to go someday just to say I was there.

I was just in Vegas and stayed at the Imperial Palace and it was very cheap, $38 a night cheap. The rooms were clean and was in the center of the strip. I did stay there the week after Thanksgiving which may have been a slow period. Now that was a double room, two queen sized beds. If sharing that would have been $19 a night - not bad at all. |

Hello Anna! You are so right about doing research, when we first looked into going to Vegas it seamed the hotels were very high priced. Checked around through Expedia and others and found the Imperial Palace. It is an old place, not full of glitz like the newer ones. But I go to Vegas to explore, no one said it had to be the same place you stay at. The Mirage was right across the street and at a $100 less a night I was very happy with my choice. |

Yeah, it's hard to go on trips when you're on a fixed income. Yeah, I have a job, but it doesn't pay that much, and I'm looking for one that pays more. I will do my research about Las Vegas, but I probably won't be going there until next year the earliest.

Betsy it's been done, believe me a thousand times before at that 'other' place. This is why I no longer plan get togethers anymore. People are always jealous and start in with that clique bullsh*t. They can't afford it, they feel awkward, blah blah blah...it's been a lot easier for me now when people say hey, everyone's meeting over here. I pack my bags and I go. Everyone is welcomed no matter where it is held. Either lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. I've never been somewhere where people are rude, or they made you feel like they were better than you. They are always as wonderful as they appear on the message boards....well with the exception of two of the biggest AHoles i've ever met.

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
|
Well then Dottie that shows that you get BEATS point. Not all of us at any given time are always going to be able to participate and some of us may never be able to participate in these get togethers. For goodness sakes don`t be a wet blanket and spoil it for those who can`t not everyone is rich and flexible and some go to great length and personal sacrifice and perhaps sometimes not in the best interest of their future to throw caution to the wind and say what the hell I`m going, and some are more practical and say I really can`t because I have more important priorities and hope for better days to come. Whatever the circumstance you find yourself in the most important thing is to be able to accept your position in the equation and believe and know that all things are possible to make happen based on your willingness to gamble and sacrifice. I would never ever be jealous or hold anyone in contempt who is in a better financial position than myself to take advandtage willy nilly every opportunity that comes along. That does not make them better or more important than me and I do not define myself based on what anyone else has that I don`t. I know that if given the opportunity to meet each and everyone of you in person you would find me to be a very nice and decent woman, I might not be the lfe of the party but I am confident in my ability to hold my own in a social situation. If my finances don`t allow me to be there I do not begrudge anyone of you having the good fortune to partake. I always believe that sooner or later my day will come. And if I never get to meet the vast majority of you that I come to love and respect over the last few years of my participation on the net I hold no grudges to thoses that can. I am quite happy being included in phone calls and hearing all your wonderful stories. |
|
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' ! I WAS ROBBED BY THAT DEVIL WOMAN | |

Dotty, what does me being able to afford it have to do with it? Most of the times people come to NYC and all I have to do is drive 30 mins. You just showed everyone why I don't plan anymore get togethers, becaue it's easier for someone else to do it and invite me, and if I can make it I make it, if not I don't. But this is the exact bullsh*t that I wanted to get away from. If I go to Buffalo and leave from JFK airport it costs me $69 each way and then I stay at a friend's house. And not to be mean, but Geez if you can't swing $69 then people shouldn't be so damn worried about meeting up, as i'm sure they must have other more important priorities than meeting members of a message board. |

For some people, $69 is a lot of money. I think what Dotty is getting at, as much as she would love to meet everyone she has her priorities set. If she can't afford to go, she doesn't and her life will not come to a crashing end. For those of us that can't afford things that we consider luxury, some of us don't mind hearing the stories. It's almost as good a being there. I do make enough money to at least get out to Vegas, if we have a meet-up there but don't make enough money to make it to NYC. Okay, so others can afford it, no big deal. As much as I would miss not being there, I know it is out of my price range. So what! Life won't come to an end. |

Exactly. And if that's the case they then they shouldn't be worried about meeting people from message boards. But on the other hand is it necessary to hear the tales of woe so that others that can meetup feel guilty about it? Please, like I said, that's why I don't organize these things anymore. I mean if you can't afford the airfare that's one thing, but i've had it where people actually want you to get them there for free. And if you think i'm pulling your leg just ask Judy and Betsy if I am. It never ends. |

I really thought people wouldn't start bickering over meet ups. Like I posted originally, this was just seeing if there was interest. Looking at the size of this great country of our I knew it would be a challenge. Now I see it is very much impracticle to have one place, so I would suggest at least 3: NYC (who says you have to stay in Manhatten?), Chicago, and Las Vegas. Yes, some members have higher priorities than meeting others on the board and I don't blame them one bit. If I was married with children I wouldn't have met anyone that I already have. They would be my first priority. However we as adults still need to enjoy ourselves and if meeting an online buddy is something you want to do it can be done. Maybe not this year or even the next but arrangements can be made. Children don't need to be brought, hell spouses don't either. Split a room, take a bus. To be honest if we met in NYC I certainly wouldn't pay for a Manhatten hotel. There is great transportation to Jersey which is a hell of a lot cheaper. So please lets continue this discussion without bickering. And also if you are going somewhere post it here, maybe one or more of us are close and can meet that way. |

Y'know folks, I'd like to go too. But because of the shape of the world and everything, I can't. We just have to deal with that fact. Like I said, there should be no obligation either way here. There's always going to be someone who has to go further or spend more to make it happen. If they're happy to do that, that's cool. If they can't - that's cool too. It's no reflection on them as a friend in any way, shape or form. |

Thanks on the tip for the Imperial hotel in Vegas, Tony. I'm going in early May and am buying 3 LOVE tickets, etc., so it would be nice to save a little on hotels. I was prepared to spend $200/night, but this much better. I don't intend on staying in the hotel much and would much rather be up running amok and having some moolah to do so! |

Barb I went during a slow period, you are hitting Vegas in prime tourist time as well as during a fight weekend. Just checked on Hotels.com and The Mirage is $319 a night while the Imperial Palace is $130 a night. Keep checking them and the other sites. Also the best night to buy is a Wed night. Best sales are then. |

Hey, thanks for the info., Tony. Yes, I bet it will be more when I'm there, but at$130, that's still better than the Mirage. It's my son's 30th birthday and I'm going with him and about 15 guys - my son is staying at the Paris and I'm not asking any questions but Mombo here is going a little less deluxe.

I wanted to apologize, Tony for sabatoging this thread. I just get frustrated because right now my budget doesn't allow me to go on trips, which I would love to do. i love travelling to different places.:) I'm happy for those who go on trips, I honestly am, and I'm not jealous at all. I just get disappointed at myself that I don't have the money right now to go places. I'm hoping by the end of the year I get a job (there is a possiblity I will), and then I can finally save money for a trip. It's not that I'm not motivated to go, it's just I can't. |
