The Bootleg Beatles; Who thinks they should give up?

I was just on The Bootleg Beatles website and took a look at their tour blog....all i have to say is they are getting very much ahead of themselves. apologies to any loyal fans of theirs on here but they get worse as they get older, they have all got to be in their 50's now and here i find that they are launching major tours (like the kind Macca launches with roadies, PR People and caterers! BLOODY CATERERS!! i was speechless when i seen it) obviously their ego's have surpassed themselves this time, when i met Neil Harrison (who plays John in the Band) back in 2000 he was alright but i did notice he seemed to be quite smug with himself. they are Britain's longest running tribute (been going since 1980 i think) but they are way past it now, there are other better tributes out in the world than these blokes. i had a friend in Cardiff University who seen them for the first time and he came back to me telling me how amazing they were and i told him that he hasnt seen anything yet.

their musicianship has become very shoddy. it's kind of sad that they don't know when to quit, as they could have each gone and done something in their own right.

i remember Gavin Pring telling me that The Blue Meanies (first Beatle band he was in) and The Mersey Beatles were convinced The BBs were gonna collapse and they would take over. so i kinda admire The BBs for standing their ground But i dont think much of The Mersey Beatles anyway and The Blue Meanies are just plan Sh**! just ask Gav! haha! again, apologies to anyone affiliated with the aforementioned Bands! what i MEANT to say was....;-)

anyone got any opinions on them?
Dominic.

bleck, give it up guys!! You look stupid trying to play guys in their 20's when you're 55! Might of been cool 30 years ago, but there's a point when you have to say, "ok, I don't look so much a 20something John Lennon anymore. I'm done." Again, another factor of how vain that whole world can be.

agreed. there comes a time when make up can't hide the wrinkles anymore. the same can be said for 1964: The Tribute from the States. when i seen them i said to a friend "1964? is that when they started up?"

LOL! I've seen 1964, bleck, bleck.....

No more trib bands for me! I'm sticking with the snobbery of Detroit rock.

This is very disappointing to hear. I'm a big fan of Dave Catlin-Birch but fortunately he doesn't seem too ego driven.
Put a puppet on it.

Dom, what do you mean by "shoddy"? How does musicianship get worse the more you play?

Fi & I saw them about a year ago and they were pretty damn good. I think the music means an awful lot more than the image. ;)

I've seen them numerous times, and always found them to be fantastic!
Anyway, from a distance, if you squint slightly, I think they look pretty darn close to the real thing!
Long may they continue IMO...

they're not giving it their all, they start to get sloppy, they're getting bored of doing it i think. but my gripe really is they should just stop trying to look like The Beatles when they were in their 20's. it starts to look cheesy. i have had a lot of people say "i would prefer to see a band who look nothing like the beatles having a great time singing the songs than ones who try to look like them and then just play badly"

here's an interesting question. out of all the tributes that everyone on here has seen live, who would you say is or was the best? best tribute i seen Live would have to be a south devon band called The Fab Four when i was 8. my first ever tribute i was flipping mezmerized, they looked nothing like The Beatles (and their George was left handed) but to an 8 year old hearing Beatles music played live was wonderful, just wonderful. it was then i decided i wanted to be a Beatle. since i was left handed and really, really ugly i'd have to be Paul. but i always wanted to be John.

Brutal.I like them.I've seen them the last 2 years and they are good fun. They were a big factor in me getting into The Beatles even more the first time I saw them.
I also took one of my friends they last time I saw them and he thought they were great.I've never thought about the age thing before and dont really see it as an issue
I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...
'You're a Paul McCartney fan? No you're a Wings fan'. 'Thankyou Scotland' Ho Hey Ho...
