This is a verbatim conversation from Sunday with the five-year-old. It was independently thought out and not coached, I swear. ^_^

Grace: Are Beatles real?

Me: What do you mean, the group?

Grace: Yes, are they real?

Me: Well, the group is not still together, but the people are real.

Grace: I want to visit them. (giggles, then with much emphasis ) I want to visit Paul.
And Ringo. I want to visit all of them.

Then by all means take her, mom!

My then 6 year old demanded that I take her to Abbey Road on the River two years ago, Lisa! She said this year that she hates that she was scared to go see Paul in concert with me in '03. Isn't it awesome that they have such great musical tastes? B) ^_^

But she didn't want to visit John first!

Actually lucky she didn't because I would have had some explaining to do that I haven't yet. :(

Then by all means take her, mom!

Ok, I can imagine this scene then:

Me (showing up on Paul's doorstep): Hi there.

Paul: Uh, what do you think you're doing?

Me: Well, my daughter Grace (standing beside me, waving wildly) wanted me to take her to visit you. It was Beep's idea.

Good suggestion, Chad.

I'll definitely take her whenever she's ready for a concert, Linda. Thought you might empathize with her need to visit Paul. :)

Really though I want to take her (and me) to visit Liverpool.

Grace is a bright little girl, Lisa and has very good taste! ;)

I hear Paul may be touring again this year, so who knows...maybe you can take her to his concert and let her see a "real live" Beatle!

I'm so pleased to see you are bringing her up "right"...! ;) I did the same with my sons...they cut their teeth on Beatle and solo music.

Aww, thanks Merry and everyone about the kind comments about Grace. She has been listening to Beatles music since she was a tiny bug. Her favorite song at 2 was "Yellow Subareen." Now it's "Get Back" and "Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds."

But she's still an average five-year-old. She is continually dancing with "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses" and Polly Pocket who has now also become a singing star in "Pollyworld."

Oh these whippersnappers....

It shall be known that I do not force any music on the girly-girls. I let them figure it out for themselves, but they do hear a lot of Beatles/classic rock by default. With that in mind....

We were in the truck a few days ago and Analise said' "Who is this daddy? It doesn't sound like Paul McCartney." Well, I have been on a ginormous George kick as of late, but this was the first she had noticed, or at least asked. (She knows all the Beatles by name and face, but not neccessarily by song catalog yet. But with her curiosity, that may be changing.)

So I told her who it was and she looked at me and said, "I really like it, where's the booklet?" (She loves liner notes! She is DEFINITELY Daddy's little girl!!!) She read all the album lyrics and was even singing along with Sue Me, Sue You Blues.

She has heard all of "Living in the Material World' and the first disc of ATMP since then. I asked her yesterday what she liked about George and she just replied, "I don't know, I just really like him!" I'm a sap, because I got a little choked up at the idea that she basically discovered George for herself without me trying to coerce her. ^_^

That's so cool, Chad. She has great taste! I had to find the beatles on my own. Completely. My parents never listened to them, ever.

*prepares for a long story* April 10th 2006, my mom had taken me shopping for my birthday. I saw some Beatles shirts in Target, and thought I really would like a Beatles CD... It was totally out of nowhere. I had barely given them a second thought my whole life, but I had the sudden urge. My mom got me '1' and I first listened to it on the 17th. I was instantly hooked.

Now, I'm a total Beatles freak!

So, anyway, that's my little Beatles-finding story.

I'm glad Analise is growing up with it in her system ^_^

The Church that I go to, I run the nursery. While the parents are in Church I play Breakfast with The Beatles on the radio. The kids and parents are in full understanding, when we celebrated my 20th anniversary of running the nursery some the kids were at the altar with me, the choir, and some of the congregation sang Imagine to me (a plaque is in the offing with the plaque being a yellow submarine theme of looking into the nursery through the porthole and stating Imagine). It was quite the moment but all of the kids I have ever taken care of and their parents know that The Beatles will be played.

My children, ages 37,34,30,29, are all BEATLES fans, and more so Paul McCartney. They have all been to 2 concerts of Paul's. In Chicago, the ladies standing behind my daughter and niece were asking them to sit down, to which my daughter and niece said, "If we wanted to sit, we would have gone to a play. We're at a concert so nooooooo." Then the ladies said your too young to even know the words. And then they said just watch us, we know the songs to his new cd, even." The ladies behind them said, Paul has a new CD? My girls, just had a good laugh. They partied on and sat for the quiet songs.

My ten year old grandson went to Paul's concert in 2005. He knows the music from the BEATLES and Paul through my daughter and from me. It's a part who we are and it's important to pass that on to your kids.

Lisa, how sweet of your daughter to ask.........one for the baby book.

Chad, Doesn't that make you feel good when your child ask those kind of questions and takes such an interest.

Our children make us so proud when something that important to us reflects on them too.

PEACE and love to my friends, Judy

He Won An Award.....
first time i got into the Beatles i was 8. i remember seeing them do Twist & Shout on a repeat of the royal variety performance of 1963. i was fascinated. then for my 9th birthday my parents got me the 20 greatest hits cassette. i wore it out. then my obsession grew as i went to see tribute band after tribute band and decided that i wanted to be in a band of my own. i started up a little group with me on a right handed hofner bass copy that my parents had bought and together with two other school mates we formed this little group called The Black, i remember being into Cream as well as the Beatles at that time and loving the fact that we were a three piece, we played in the interval of a school play we only played 2 songs and they were "I'm So Glad" by Cream and "I Saw Her Standing There" by...well you know who! after the performance this older boy came round the back of the stage looking a lot like John Lennon in a cloth cap and black turtleneck he was smiling and he slapped me on the back and he goes "that was great! that was really F***ing great!" i laughed and we all said thanks and then he turns to me and says "my name's John" i almost laughed out loud i said "you look like John Lennon ad you expect me to believe your name's John?!" he looked serious and then went "Yeah! hey listen...i wanna BE John Lennon in a Beatle band, i've seen loads of them! and i can play the guitar. i've tried to rouse interest but nobody wants to know, you know how it is they all say 'why you into that old fogey music?!' you know?" i knew all too well, the other two members of the black were more into Oasis who were just becoming big in Britain and agreed to join on the basis that we did Oasis songs. i didnt wanna know, all i wanted was Beatles and Cream! "So..." said this John bloke "You fancy being Paul to my John?" i thought for a minute and said "have you got George and Ringo?" he didnt, we spent the best part of a year just playing acoustic guitar round each others houses and sitting on the walls of Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road and hanging round The Cavern dreaming and hoping for some Beatle like success. we eventually found a drummer, Neil who was the same age as me. so two became three. we were getting there. Neil had come to us cause he'd heard we were serious about the band, not messing around like all the other kids and he was mad about The Beatles, he told me years later how he was fascinated by watching Ringo in Yellow Submarine as a kid then when he found out that Ringo played drums, he wanted to aswell. his parents gave into his crying for a drum kit and he set it up in his garage, which is where the three of us would mitch off school and go play Beatles songs in his garage, some recordings of us in those very early days still exist somewhere. me with my bad hofner copy John with his Gibson SG copy and Neil with his ludwig drums with "THE BEATLES" firmly emblazoned on the bass drum with permanent marker. then one day when we shockingly stayed in school at lunchtime we overheard two girls talking about this boy who was playing this really pretty song down in the canteen called "Here Comes The Sun" we raced down to the canteen to see this year 7 boy with a beatle haircut playing 'And I Love Her' on this nylon strung acoustic with Segovia like precision. girls were gathered round him, boys were sniggering at him to which John gave them a disarming glare after he'd finished, we sat around him and naturally he thought we were gonna make fun of him or bully him but we told him we needed him in our band, he slowly looked up at me and John and recgonition came over his face "You're those boys who love The Beatles arn't you?!" me and John nodded tiredly and John put his arm round the boy and said in thick scouse "Welcome to our lil rock un roll groop kidder!" we left school almost instantly, probably seen by a few teachers but they couldnt stop us and we all ran back to Neil's garage to rehearse with Colin....our George Harrison.

so from then on we basically clicked, we all became best friends and serious about the music. i wont go into anymore of the story cause you're all probably thinking "why do i wanna know?!" so yeah thats how i got into the Beatles. apologies for rambling!
Dominic.

^_^  :sweet: Great story Dom

As for my beatles shirts, I have about 11

I have one - the pink Beatles one from the Beatles Story

Oooh, I haven't got a pink one

Most of the ones I have are new-style types from Target. Ya know, faded, vintage looking. Have a really nice Abbey Road one! I have a few tie-dyed ones as well, which I love (both yellow submarine). Let's take inventory;

- an Abbey road shirt
- another Abbey Road shirt
- a tie-dyed one with the Beatles faces down the side
- a tie-dyed one with blue meanies and such on it
- a blue one with a... picture on it. I don't remember which album
- a MMT one that's tan
- a yellow colored YS shirt
- A Fab Four one
- a blackish brown one with the same picture as my blue one but with diff. coloring
- a dark blue one with individual pictures with the idividual names.
- a greenish brownish AHDN shirt...

That's all I can remember

But the MMT and first mentioned blue one were the first I ever got. Whenever I where them I feel so naustalgiac.

I know it's stupid to collect shirts and be proud, but it isn't like some people who buy Beatles shirts when they don't listen to them! THAT drives me insane. I wear them with pride

Thus ends my shirt inventory. I'll have to check if I missed any... :pinch:
