12/21/2006: Burlington man leaves dead girlfriend in apartment for six days; Didn't want to deal with rescue squad

BURLINGTON — A man stayed in his apartment with his girlfriend’s body for six days last week before telling authorities the woman had died, according to Burlington police.

The 49-year-old man lived with his girlfriend in a large apartment complex a few blocks from the Police Station. According to police reports, the man had been sleeping on the couch on Dec. 10. When he woke up he went into the bedroom and saw his girlfriend, Kellie A. Johnson, 38, on the bed. He shook her shoulder, but she did not respond. He believed she was dead.

Then he went back to the living room, smoked several cigarettes and went back to his “normal life,” the report stated. He said he had enough food in the apartment and did not want to report her death right away because he did not want to deal with the rescue squad.

The last time emergency personnel responded to their apartment for one of Johnson’s medical problems, the man said there was a problem with one of the people who came to help. He did not want to encounter that person again, so he did not call authorities.

He stayed in the apartment with her body for several days, and covered it with a sheet on Dec. 14, after it had started to decompose. On Dec. 15, he went to the police.

The man told police Johnson “didn’t seem to want to live anymore” and felt she may have taken too many medications. The two met at a medical rehabilitation facility about two years ago, where the man was recovering from a stroke. The woman had several medical conditions, including diabetes. During the time she was dead the man told the woman’s father she was sleeping.

An autopsy was performed Dec. 16. There was no evidence of suspicious behavior, according to the report. However, toxicology test results will not be returned for several weeks.

Burlington police declined to comment on the case, but said they are working with the Racine County Medical Examiner and District Attorney in the investigation. As of Thursday afternoon, no one had been arrested or charges filed.

Okay, my reply is off topic, but Mikey I love your new piccie. having a hard time trying to decide which one of you is the most sexy.
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand
John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' !

I WAS ROBBED BY THAT DEVIL WOMAN

That article describes someone with psychological problems - some people unfortunately are just unable to grasp the concept of appropriate and inappropriate behaviour.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

His fear of confrontation definitely proves that. Hopefully he can get some help. I hate to think that his fear to act may have actually contributed to her dying.

I truly think this is a very sad story. Some people just don't have the ability to make the right choices. It seems that it took him 6 days to be able to sort out things in his mind, as to what was the right and what was the wrong thing to do. Yes, it is disgusting to us, but he does not seem to have the ability to think that far ahead. I think it is even sadder that nobody thought to check on them, they evidently needed some caregiving.

Even worse is when your "stiffy" is in the other room and you are sleeping on the sofa.
