Olen, I know Huntsville is in Northern Alabama, but I didn't know if you knew any one in the school system there.

Please pray for those involved.

That is terrible, Chad. I wish the photographer could have stayed back a wee bit, I don't think they really needed to show some of the injured lying on the ground to convey the story. :(
My thoughts are with the other injured girls and their families. I hope they pull through ok.

I noticed that after you pointed it out, Sandra. That is a bit uncomforting. :(

I know that terrible things happen all the time, but it seems more so as we head into the holiday season. My prayers go out to the family and friends of those affected by this tragedy. :(

I agree they showed to much. I sure wouldn't want to see my injured child in a photograph. :(

Hits a bit too close to home for me. I go to Huntsville all the time. It's only about a 45 minute drive from here.

Such a horrible thing. I'll be saying an extra prayer tonight for those involved. Makes you realize how fragile life is and how quickly it can be taken away.

As a photojournalist, I can tell you that photos like this are done all the time. I don't approve of them, I feel like they are an invasion of privacy when done in the manner that this was. Had it been me, I would have panned out and done a wide angle shot of the bus..naturally the students would have been in it...but it would not have appeared nearly as invasive.
If slaughterhouses had glass walls the whole world would be vegetarian.

I was in Huntsville twice last week (one was a field trip on a school bus). A former principal at Lee High was one of my instructors at the Alabama Military Academy. I also knew a former coach from there that is now at Huntsville High. Like Tassy, I too spend alot of time in Huntsville. We buy our groceries at the Redstone Arsenal Commissary every 4 weeks or so. My dad even worked at NASA in Huntsville for 30+ years.

It is truly a sad day for the people in Huntsville. My thoughts are with the families of the kids and bus driver.

Alot of people have argued for seat belts in school buses for a long time. Maybe some of these kids would be alive now if they had seat belts on that bus.
God bless them all....

As to to graphic photos on Yahoo...why?

Yeah, I don't understand why they don't have seatbelts on buses. That would of saved a few lives!

I know photos like this are done often. :(
I just wish more photojournalists were as sensitive as you Jana. I'm not saying don't take the picture, just show a wee bit more sensitivity and do as you suggest to make it a bit less intrusive.
