As to the ascam certain activities are precluded here by the law forces, indeed we don't like agent provocateurs since the 1820's. With the revelations that certain law agencies from a foreign power ( er YES the USA AGAIN) this weekend have indeed been launching sting operations on these shores and the totally disgusting recent extradition treaty, these so called methods of policing have no place in a democratic society they have the stench of the lubrinka. I sometimes wonder what the hell is going on in the US and has anyone in apparatus got an iota of common sense. It gets increasingly hard to defend the US and time and time again more powder is given to the anti US lobby.

Who the hell who want to live in New York.

Yes, the ABCSAM story is old, but the video is newly released.

As for Rangel, well, he's just a dumb*ss.

EDIT: And both events happened, didn't they? They handed the opening salvo to the right.

It could go either way with the Rangel comment, but it was dumb.

I guess people on the right have never said anything about us who live in California.

I love Californians! 3 of them to be exact, my uncle and his partner in Palm Springs and my aunt in San Diego. ^_^ I don't know the rest of you enough to say. ;)

Saying something like that about any region is stupid, whether it's Mississippi, San Francisco or Massachusetts.
Put a puppet on it.

no it's the reaction to fun comments that is stupid as with good old Boris Johnston here you should just tell the media hacks to p*ss off. does that tactic work in politics YES please refer to the MAD KEN of London and shagger NORRIS. Both men have never let the media dictate whast they say or do.

Point taken!

What I meant was that the stupidity stems from not being prepared for how such a comment will inevitably be used against them. The meaning would all be in the tone of voice, but the words get reported in text without inflection.

Remember the backlash when Bush Snr said he didn't like broccoli? All the farmers were so upset. Geez, is a man not allowed to express a preference against certain vegetables?

No, you're right Peter. It's pretty sad when people have to leap on innocent quips.
Put a puppet on it.

So Pelosi got slammed on her first action as Speaker. Hoyer won out over Murtha.
I have to say I'm glad that the moderate democrats have seemingly set a tone for what they expect from Pelosi.

Interesting take on it. My understanding is that Murtha never had a chance, and the vote shows it.

It just goes to show that the left think independently and don't tow the line like those on the right who like to be obedient to their superior.

This is a good thing, no matter what Matt Drudge titles his headline. And yes I go to Drudgereport many times a day.

Murtha didn't have a chance, but nobody could be certain until after the secret ballots were cast. Plus, it's the fact that Pelosi wanted Murtha and even pushed for him that is the big news.

The left having too many politicians who don't "tow the line" leads to chaos and in-fighting. They'll be hard pressed to fight the big evil conservatives when they can't even agree on a uniform party message.

Nothing wrong with the Drudge report. :P But when you post articles from kos and crooks and liars you make me wonder. :P :D

Never posted anything from Kos, just 1 reference to it.

Crooks and Liars.com is great because you actually get the video of someone making an ass of them instead of hearing spin or a "We report, You decide" mantra.

I like C&L because generally, they just post the story without much editorialising.
And unlike Drudge, they don't make stuff up and wait for it to be reported as fact. :P

Abscam? That was, what, 1980? He was charged with how many crimes? I understand that since John Murtha is a potential presidential candidate the Republicans have to find some way to discredit him, but is this really the best they can do? Murtha refused to take bribes, Biden made a donut joke, Clinton is a b*tch. Is the high road really that high?

Murtha was interested in district investments, which is what the sting operation was supposedly about. According to fair and balanced Fox News, the "new" tapes are "shocking". So shocking that he refused to accept bribes on several occasions, FBI agents involved in the operation thought he was jerking them around and never interested, and the US attorney made no effort to prosecute him or investigate him further. They prosecuted several other Congressmen. It is not like this guy was Ronald Reagan.

I would love to see the day when our political parties actually wait to see who the presidential nominee is before they begin the character assassinations. Even then, it would be nice if they focused on the actual issues and not spin on a candidate's war record or events of a hundred years ago. I want to hear, "Vote for me because the other guy supports HR666" not "The other guy might not be as big of a war hero as we think, so vote for me" or "Vote for me. The other guy had an affair 80 years ago. Whereas mine was only 10 years ago".

You pretty much just nailed my point home on why I even bothered to post this thread.
