That's a step in the right direction. Of course, what we want is a cure, but a higher life expectancy is good news indeed.
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Yes, we do need a cure, but I remember when my doctor when from being in family practice to specializing in AIDS/HIV. Almost all of his patients were dying within a year or two and he was going to funerals all the time. When I went to his talk in September, it was amazing what they can do to help people living with HIV/AIDS. However, there are some people who become resistant to the various drug treatments and they need solutions now or they will not make it. A man asked him a question who was in this position. He said he was at the end of his ropes as all of the current drugs have quit working for him.

We also need to remember to practice safe sex so this horrible disease does not continue to spread.

For all intents and purposes, my uncle's partner should be dead by now. We need a cure. :hmm:

So should Magic Johnson. I cried when I heard he had HIV.

People also need to remember that this is just not a gay disease. It's transmitted by intravenous drug use and blood transfusions, too. In Africa, the spread of HIV/AIDS is through heterosexual sex. Many of the people in Africa are polygamous and if one person in the relationship gets the disease, the entire family gets it. My doctor did say that they can stop a pregnant woman from passing the disease on to her newborn if treatment is done immediately following birth.

In Paul's Arms!
I do know people who have lived with HIV/AIDS for as long as I have known them, and that is at least 10 years. This is great news to hear but the sad part is that HIV/AIDS is on the rise in women, latiinos, and blacks. Of all of the diseases in the world, this is one that could be stopped dead in its' tracks but people, even those educated about HIV/AIDS, still take their chances. We have to stop using that mentality and listen to what is being said and do it if we are going to stop this disease.

I have read that even gays are having unprotected sex because they think the new drugs will save them.

That's the mentality that all groups have

I know. That article talks about it costing $600,000 over their lifetime to treat them. We all pay for that in our insurance rates.

Why on earth would they do that?

Because they think the drugs will save them and they won't die. My wonderful doctor was telling us that in his speech. He is in Uganda working at some hospital and they won't give the medicine to AIDS patients if 1) they can't learn the regimen of when and how to take their pills and 2) if they won't use condoms, which apparently are taboo in the part of Uganda he is in.

Well, its not a cure. But its a step forward I guess.
I wished I could save her in some sort of time machine.
