I'll start.... I used to have friend from Illinois who used to refer fanatics as spuds (example:"Oh he's just a Paul spud"). Also it didn't hurt that when I signed up for Yahoo, it took me over 10 tries to come up with a UserID that wasn't already taken. For those out there with a dirty mind... it's pronounced Beatle Spud... not the other way

my user name is from what people around town call me. I'm one of the very few true mods in Detroit (not a wannabe indie kid mod, I'm a Vespa riding, Northern Soul-garage-British Invasion playing, Fred Perry wearing mod.) and most people in the indie scene here know me as "that mod girl" if they don't know me personally. 1964 I took from the year of the Beatles invading the States, James Bond hitting the screen and the height of Swingin' London and the mod scene. |

When I first contemplated choosing my username way back when I joined the Paul McCartney official forum, I wanted something to reflect my personality and, being a huge E.L.O. fan, I decided to pay tribute to one of the long standing icons of Rock 'n' Roll legend - the ever-present beard of Jeff Lynne... but it goes much deeper than that. The beard represents many things - perpetual growth, a psychological mask behind which to hide your real features & feelings, the strength and permanence of each individual strand... after all, when you die, one of the last things to decompose is your hair. It lives on long after your flesh disappears. I liked the idea of each post on a discussion forum living on long after the thought left my head, dissipated into my fingers and into cyberspace forever... just like those individual strands of hair - but when you take all of those posts (strands) and combine them together, you get the full beard... me. Hence, JeffLynnesBeard. ... Either that, or I just thought it sounded cool. Whatever.

I wanted an unusual Beatle-connected name that no one was using, so I picked Jacaranda because I loved the way it sounds, and it was the Liverpool coffee club that the proto-Beatles hung out in. As far as I know, it still exists as a pub today. Here's a description of the Jacaranda: "The Jacaranda is where local art students Stuart Sutcliffe and John Lennon were regulars, and where they formed a band calling themselves 'Johnny & The Moondogs' with their friends Paul McCartney and George Harrison; the rest is history. The Beatles played numerous lunchtime gigs at the Jacaranda, as well as several evening performances." |

About Sean Astin...his mother, Patty Duke always claimed he was the father, but at the time there was alot of scandal involving Desi Arnaz, Jr. and the posibility that he was Sean's dad. I think he resembles Desi Jr. more than he does Gomez! As for my user name, it's no mystery at all...it's just my name. Merry

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
|
Sean Astin is John Astins biological son. His mother Patty Duke concieved him out of wedlock during a very brief affair when John was still married to another woman. For years he was passed off as the child of another man. Tabloids at the time of his birth were even claiming that he was Desi Arnez jr.s son. Finally when Patty and John reunited the truth was revealed that John was indeed his real father. It was a huge scandal at the time. |
|
You say you want to save humanity but it`s people that you just can`t stand John came to me in a dream and this is what he said. "I had a vision of a man on a flaming pie, and he told me that Betsy with a B not Lisa with a L is the biggest fan of mine". John trumps 'the boss' ! I WAS ROBBED BY THAT DEVIL WOMAN | |

That's right Betsy, but I still wonder about that! To me he looks nothing at all like John Astin, but then maybe he just favors his mother more. It was a huge scandal...funny how times change! Merry

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!
|
I remember seeing pictures of him in the 70s when he was still a small child and he seemed to favor his dad more then than now. Mackenzie doesn`t really look much like his dad either. Here is an excerpt from Patty Dukes biography on her website. In 1965, at the age of 18, she escaped from the Rosses by marrying Harry Falk, an assistant director on her TV show. He was 32. After the show was cancelled, Patty's severe depression signaled the start of an odyssey of mental illness that also included bouts of mania, suicide attempts, dangerous anorexia, drug abuse and alcoholism. She and Falk were divorced in 1969, and in 1970 she had an affair with actor John Astin that left her pregnant. In a manic mood she married Michael Tell, whom she barely knew, later that year; that marriage was annulled after 13 days. Sean Astin (lately of Lord of the Rings fame) was born in February of 1971. |

Fascinating info about Patty, although I know that she had a terrible and traumatic upbringing and has to be on medication the rest of her life to keep her depression under control. I read her book, she is quite a personality and has been through alot, but she IS a very gifted actress. Okay, I'll accept that John Astin is Sean and McKenzie's father, but I still don't think either resemble him. Merry

I have used this name all over the internet as long as I've been on the internet. I don't use it on eBay though, so don't go looking there for it. It is in honor of Paul's nickname and that I'm a scruff, like the Apple Scruffs. I've spent so many hours waiting at MPL, Cavendish and various venues where Paul is going to play that night. I qualify as a scruff. When I google it now, I see that others have adopted it--one is a moderator at a Beatles board and has made it into Macca Scruff. Somebody who was my friend on My Space has added it to their My Space name, but I thought of it at least 15 years ago. Paul has seen it on the sign that says maccascruff loves Paul so many times that he called me maccascruff. He has no idea of my real name and that's just fine. |
