You wouldn't believe how shy I am. For example, I had 2 friends coming around in an hour and just know i'll go quiet even though they are friends. I do make a big effort to overcome the shyness when I meet strangers. I have been shy all of my life but it's getting better. A lot of my good friends have brought me out of my shell I'd also like to be more organized over certain things <_< |

Thanks for reminding me of this thread, Barb and Lisa. I've been so wrapped up in my kitty's medical drama that I've had time to think of little else. A quick recap of the past 2 months: I've dropped 2 pant sizes (yea!!) and have cut sugar out of my diet almost completely! The great thing is that I haven't really been on a diet, per se, but I have tried to eliminate sugar, gone easy on the bread and have stayed away from fried foods. I'm vegetarian, so eating lots of fruits and veggies has been quite easy for me. I've been out for Mexican food a couple of times (my weakness!), have been to several dinners with friends, and even went to a couple of wine tastings. I ate and drank what I wanted to, only in smaller amounts than I might have in the past. By allowing myself the things that I enjoy (if only in smaller portions and perhaps less frequently), I don't experience the deprivation that I probably would if I were on a strict diet. I'm happy to lose the weight slowly. As the old fable says, "Slow and steady wins the race." I haven't been able to get back to the gym yet. My knees were seriously injured by my foolish attempt to exercise as though I still had an 18-year old's body, and I'm not sure they're ready to be road tested just yet. All good things in time. OK, enough about me. What's everyone else been doing on the self-improvement front? Glad to hear you're still in fine form, Barb. You're an inspiration to me!!

Bev - No, you inspire me! 2 pants sizes...fantastic. It didn't seem you had to lose 2 pants sizes! That is a lot. It has taken me 4 months to lose 23 pounds - talk about slow and steady. I use to hate that sentiment, but I'm learning moderation and patience in my old age. Nixing the sugar is key for so many reasons, isn't it? Glad the knees are improving. Even more impressive that you're shedding unwanted weight without being able to exercise. I think it's the exercise that is saving me. I'm willing to run my butt off - I'm just not as willing to quit eating so much. But, it's working for me and I love that the exercise is taking me outdoors. Keep up the good work. Peter luv- Utterly fantastic that you're dropping pounds and ciggies at the same time - not so easy to do. Your studliness is gaining momentum. Very impresssed. |

By popular request, er, demand -- here we go again!!!
I was re-reading my last post on this thread and I'm embarassed to admit that I've experienced a bit of a backslide. I'm still wearing the smaller pant size, but I'm starting to see those unsightly little rolls around my midsection.
Ever since I've been dealing with my kitty's health crisis, I've found myself returning to my old "comfort" foods -- grilled cheese sandwiches, french fries, guacamole and tortilla chips, and, of course, lots of the appropriate liquid refreshments with which to wash the treats down!! (I'm having a glass of nice California sparkling wine as I post this, accompanied by Ruffles potato chips and cheese dip!! ) There -- how's that for honesty??? Oh, and I'll be having some treats over the next couple of days, as well. It's all good, though. After the holidays, I'll be back on the horse. Anyone else care to saddle up and ride into a better life in the new year??

I AM THE BIGGEST JOHN FAN!

I went veggie for a few years and got so stick thin you couldn`t see me, but it was because I can`t eat a lot of heavy carbs due to my gastric bypass. So breads and pastas weren`t options for me. When I was diagnosed with lupus and became severely anemic the only thing that has staved off regular iron transfusions, which are done IV and take all day and cost thousands of dollars was to go back to adding read meat to my diet. So that is the reason that I am no longer 100% percent veggie. Oral supplements didn`t work and iron shots didn`t work, and when I no longer had health insurance I had to do what I had to do. So, you can see it isn`t that I don`t love animals, but it`s that I love me too and I have a family to raise, and had to make a choice. So I give thanks to those animals that make it possible for me to have the life I have. I do not take what I eat lightly at all. |

Bets, sorry to hear that you've had so many health issues. Yep, you gotta do what you've gotta do. Although I don't eat meat or fish, my cats and dogs do. Cats require certain nutrients that are only found in meat and without them, they will die. I struggle with that everytime I buy cat food, but it's something I must do. |

Now girls, you are both thin and pretty in my book and lots of others' as well. Emilee, since you're a teenager don't fool around with fad diets so much -- just go easy on desserts, cut out french fries and fast foods, and up your fruit and veggie intake. And exercise -- as much as you can, it's never bad for you. And drink plenty of cold water -- negative calories, really! Nat, since you just had a baby be careful, and since you're breastfeeding you need extra calories and nutrients, particularly calcium, because the baby will take that right from your bones if you don't have enough in your system. The advice I gave Emilee applies to you too. Honestly if we all ate the recommended amount of veggies and fruit everyone would lose weight. However, Nat you really should just eat heathy and normal amounts -- exercise would probably really help boost both your shape and your outlook. Of course you can't do it really til Lennon gets on a more regular schedule, but until then sleep as much as you can...:) |

I agree, Lisa, it is important for a nursing mother to eat well and enough. It is too important for the baby. I always lost weight just by breast feeding and didn't have to restrict my foods too much. It gets the body back in shape FAST. (((Nat))) you look GREAT for just having had a baby a few weeks ago. Don't push yourself so hard cause you need to keep yourself healthy, too.

I am extremely glad my health is much better. If it wasn't, I couldn't work full time. It about killed me the first week, got better the second and even better the third. Last week, I went to work on four hours of sleep because I went to see somebody and had to get up very early for a much longer drive to work. |

It's the red wine you're drinking. High in anti-oxidants and fun.

So that's what is doing it? I'll have to keep drinking more wine. |

That's my girl. A little posting and drinking red wine never hurt anyone. |
