Why do you prefer vinyl to CD?

I don't prefer vinyl to cds, it's just that I love album covers and I'm a bit nostalgic about keeping all my old albums. I love to put on my old lps, listen to the songs as they were first released, enjoy the occasional pop and hiss and then get annoyed that I have to get up and turn them over. :D

I love vinyl because it just sounds more warmer and richer. I love hearing the pops and fizzes on there too. So comforting.

I prefer vinyl to cd because

-it sounds better (obvious reply)

-it makes me feel like I am sort of travelling back in time

-the whole process of playing a record seems very 'honest' to me, it is part of the musical experience in my opinion

-it is just too cool.

Agreed 100%. Last night I listened to "Animals" all the way through, side one of "Umma Gumma", and disc 2 side 2 of the Beatles' Greatest Hits 1967-1970.

I've waited to post on here until they arrived (and they have tonight :D) so...........

a friend of mine from a local board I go on now and again (more again than now ;)) was selling up his house and moving in with his daughter and he had a big record collection he was going to 'dump'. I said to him that I would have it and he delivered them before. there are hundred's :o already found some Paul / Wings / ELO 45's (not gone through all 4 of the boxes, just skimmed the top of 1 box), and I've also noticed some 75's and lp's :)

is anyone in the 'know' about collecting old vinyls ???

is there any specfic record company I should look out for ???

Its going to take me ages to write down all these, but I'll get through them all slowly ;)

I love vinyls!

I have a large collection from way back when, as well as some that my ex had collected for me. If they ever become valuable, I'd have quite a bit riding on them. Trouble is, not all of them are in the greatest of shape owing to play.

I recently had to get rid of my old record player (by that I mean vintage '80's...!) so I'm not able to listen to them, but I've been seeing some companies putting them out as nostalgic items lately in the stores, and one day I hope to have another one so I can indulge in them once more.

I have many happy memories tied to them.

I wish I had more time to look them over for myself...but maybe these will help you and any other of you who still are holding onto some.

Okay, Jayne! :)

Here's the link to the entire page that came up when I Googled it, just in case those aren't all that great...

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=V...des&btnG=Search

I have an old 45 of Paul's that was mis-marked as "Pual and Linda McCartney" and I always wondered if it gave it any extra value!

Good for you...I think it's wonderful that you are in college! Get through it and you won't have to accept menial jobs like I have!

I'll be going soon myself...but just to get a few things at the store, then maybe I'll have a look at those websites, too!

Have fun! ;)

Hopefully this fall, I can get myself a record player. I have a lot of vinyl that I can't play and I would like to hear the crackles that are in my old Beatles LPs. I played the grooves right off them. I also like the larger size for cover art.

I picked up my Pioneer for five bucks at a yard sale. Keep an eye out and you can get a great turntable for cheap.
