Although it is atypical of the album it adds much to the depth of the record overall and is one of the many highlights of this underrated release.
I think it's more typical of some of the tracks than other songs on here. What is a typical song on this album?

I suppose I'm looking at it from a songwriter's perspective. "Medicine Jar" is almost a (variation of a) 12-bar blues song with a strong, dominant riff, whereas the others are more complex and less formulaic, musically. Not that I think that's a bad thing - I love the song - but it does stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the album in terms of songwriting style.

A typical song on the album would be one written by Paul McCartney. ^_^
