2.  The Virgin Suicides (1999)

2. Parenthood (1989)
3. Bowfinger (1999)
4. Father Of The Bride (1991)

I couldn't decide between All Of Me and Shopgirl. The former got my vote because, ultimately, I enjoyed it more. I have never seen the original Father Of The Bride, so if anyone hates it because it's a remake, I've never been in the position to compare and think it stands alone as a good movie.

It's the 1981 adaptation of Potter's series. He changed quite a bit and got an oscar for his screenplay. It also won some other awards, including Gordon Willis for his beautiful photography. What confuses people most is that it's a drama back when Martin was still known as the Jerk.

Some of his comedies are very stupid. In comedy he's either the Parenthood/Father of the Bride character or the wild and crazy guy. In drama he actually plays different characters.

1. Rosemary's Baby (1968) - "What have you done to my baby?" We could tell you, if you'd SHOW US!!
2. Soylent Green (1973) - This was just plain weird. Chuck Heston running around yelling "Soylent Green is people!!!" Meh.
3. Eyes Wide Shut (1999) - I was expecting more from Kubrick, even if he was dead.
4. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) - The original was classic. This sucked.
5. Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace (1999) - After a twenty something year build up, you'd think Lucas could have come up with something better than this.
I don't believe in Bondi. I don't believe in rugby league. I believe in Yoko, John Lennon, the Lost Weekend and me.

Round 82:  TOP 5 MOST DISAPPOINTING FILMS YOU'VE EVER SEEN
(Movies you had very high hopes for and simply didn't deliver)

5.  Help! (1965)

:o

If it wasn't for the music, the film would be a complete turkey and, especially coming after the brilliant A Hard Day's Night, how could this film not be disappointing? It has a poor plot, relatively bad acting and, although some of the jokes are funny, often slips into the contrived.

It's enjoyable enough, but - on the whole - a little unsatisfying.

I realise that I may be in the minority here. ^_^
...and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Round 82: TOP 5 MOST DISAPPOINTING FILMS YOU'VE EVER SEEN
(Movies you had very high hopes for and simply didn't deliver)

1. Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace
2. Jackie Brown
3. A Series of Unfortunate Events
4. Planet of the Apes (the Tim Burton remake)
5. The Departed

1. No explanation necessary
2. I felt cheated after the brilliance of "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction"
3. I loved the books -- the movie, not so much. (Plus squeezing 3 books into one film = 1 very bad idea).
4. Oh, Tim Burton, I still love you -- but how could you ruin such a classic film, and so horribly?
5. I couldn't believe the hype -- I really disliked this film. A lot.

3.  Blade Runner (1982)

:o

Watching it a couple of years ago, as I did, it really didn't live up to its 'classic' label. It was probably mind-blowing back in 1982, but - in 2005 - wasn't anything special at all.

I think I saw it 23 years too late, that's all. ;)

1. Schindler's List

1. The hero was a Nazi who profitted from slave labour. I don't so much have a problem with the lead Jew being played by Gandhi (he's not Indian either, more power to him) but it would be nice to see the real Shoah portrayed through the eyes of those whom it most destroyed. I'm not one of those people who begrudge Spielberg for making a profit off this movie. He's done plenty of charity work and my issue isn't with him. It's the movie itself.

2. Possibly for the same reason you were disappointed with Citizen Kane. Lots of people would call you deviant for that.

3. Sucked.

4. No explanation necessary.

5. I'd heard so many great things but I just thought it was moronic. I laughed when he mentioned America's "war of terror" and the rednecks applauded but I mostly thought it juvenile.

Thanks for the details. ;)

1. Schindler was an anti-hero. Yes, he was a capitalist who profitted from slave labour, but throughout the film you see his conscience get more prominent and it eventually leads to him being left with virtually nothing at the end of the movie and breaking down because his watch and his car could have saved more lives.

He was an opportunist, but also, evidently, a better man than he actually thought he was.

2. Point taken!

3. I didn't have high hopes for The Simpsons Movie. I think I got what I expected, given the standards of the last few seasons of the show. I don't think it was brilliant, I don't think it sucked. You have your issues with the movie, but I still think it was a wonderful piece of work.

4. Agreed.

5. I think it either made you laugh or it didn't. It was supposed to be moronic and people appreciated the humour or thought it was merely stupid. I was in the formed camp, you in the latter. ;)

Round 84: TOP 5 UNINTENTIONALLY FUNNY MOVIES
(Movies which were hilarious and yet weren't trying to be)

1. Judge Dredd - mainly for Sylvester Stallone's futuristic codpiece. Oh yeah, and the plot.

2. Mask - this one's funny because you're not sure who's more disfigured, Cher or Rocky Dennis. And because Eric Stoltz is under all that makeup somewhere. Nearly chokes you to death with sap.

3. Clash of the Titans - between the bad special effects and Harry Hamlin in his toga, this one is a classic!

4. Top Gun - this one makes the list because Tom Cruise has more palpable sexual tension with Val Kilmer than with Kelly McGillis. Adding to it are lines like, "Slider! You’re my rear man!" and "I want some butts!" Bonus points for the beach volleyball scene and the Kenny Loggins theme song.

5. Point Break - this one wins with the trio: Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, and Gary Busey. Surfer dudes robbing banks wearing masks of Republican Presidents. Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as a surfing thug. The skydiving scene. All the dialogue about ultimate waves and crap like that. The moral: surfers are always unintentionally funny.

Andy, have you seen any of Ed Wood's films? He's one of my favourite directors. Knowing his work beforehand definitely makes Burton's film more enjoyable. I've had the pleasure of meeting Maila Nurmi ("Vampira") and Conrad Brooks, who has appeared in many of Wood's films. He had some great stories to share about "Eddie". B)

That's probably the problem I had with Ed Wood as a film, Lisa, in that I wasn't (and still am not) familiar with any of his work as a director. Perhaps there has to be an air of familiarity with Ed Wood's output for you to appreciate it. :sweet:
