Round 8: TOP 5 ACTION/THRILLER MOVIES

I'm thinking the following films would more accurately be described as "Adventure", but they're "Action" enough to go on with...

1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
2. Star Wars, Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
3. Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade
4. Star Wars, Episode VI - Return of the Jedi
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

No order yet again. ;) ^_^

I think all, with the exception of Indiana Jones, would fit into either 'Fantasy' or 'Sci-Fi', both of which are planned future Top 5's... but they're your choices and it's your interpretation of the genre, so there's no right or wrong here.

Unless someone chose 'Deep Throat' for the romance Top 5. I think we could all agree on that one. :P

That's sort of what I figured. And those same films will feature in those future Top 5's as well. ;) And Deep Throat is the greatest romance film of all time - I left it off my list because it's unfair to any other films you could possibly add. -_-

No need to apologise, Bridget! ^_^

I'm not uptight about this, it's just that there are a few things I've planned for this which have a bit of structure to them and they will lack cohesion unless they're posted in a certain order and, if everyone chips in with their own ideas, my ideas will not bear fruit - and I hate it when that happens. :P :D

It's a film biography - the most recent example of which would be 'Ring Of Fire', about Johnny Cash. I haven't seen that one yet, so I can't comment on it. One which nearly made my Top 5 was 'Hurricane', the story of Reuben Carter, the film of which was inspired by the opening track on Bob Dylan's Desire album. I also want to see 'Ali', with Will Smith playing Cassius, but have never gotten round to it.

Two great political movies - The Killing Fields and The Assassination Of Richard Nixon. Another movie came to mind yesterday before I compiled my Top 5 and that's the excellent Salvador, starring James Woods.

Thanks for your hint that there had been two Round 11s, m8mt. Posts have been *ahem* amended. ;)

I had forgotten about "Salvador". Sometimes I like to forget that Oliver Stone exists.

I assumed you would catch the number issue eventually.

Before I posted this category, I wondered if there would be enough to make a decent & varied Top 5 list and then really struggled to narrow it down to five! Sleepers and The Green Mile were two I had to decide against including in mine - they're both great movies. ^_^

Since so many films can easily be placed into several different genres, it should not be that hard to find five of any.

Since it's pretty obvious A Hard Day's Night is going to be a favourite around here, I exclude it from my list for the sake of variety. ;) Otherwise, in no order as ever...

1. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
2. The Great Escape (1963)
3. A Shot in the Dark (1964)
4. Doctor Zhivago (1965)
5. The Producers (1968)

EDITED because Andy and IMDB are quite right - The Producers was 1968! ^_^

The musical score made that film for me. It really gave it a great atmosphere. It wouldn't have been as good without those Simon & Garfunkel songs...
