I love this band so much.They are one of the best bands I have ever seen live.
I'm going to see them again in August and I hope to buy their new album so,although its going to be very hard to top Absolution.

Matt Bellamy is also one of my favourite singers
I'm a BIGGER Beatles fan than you and I'm an even BIGGER Wings fan than that...

Absolution is one of the best albums I've heard.
I agree, seeing them live was a jaw-dropping experience.
I'm not too crazy about listening to their new album, I'm afraid I might be disappointed.

The lead single from their new album makes me dread hearing the new album for fear of being bitterly disappointed. I must confess to being a little dismayed at their new 'sound'.

I absolutely love Muse - their three studio albums are amongst the finest in my collection... all three of them are excellent - I only hope they haven't alienated their many fans with experimentation.

I have Absolution and I like it quite well, but not enough to list the band as one of my favourites. It seems that everyone I know who really, really likes this band has seen them live. Do you, the fans on this thread, think that this is the key? Is their live show essential to fully understanding their music? Or should I be able to get it simply by listening to their recordings?

Either way, which album should I listen to next?
I took my brains out and stretched 'em on a rack
Now I'm not so sure I'm ever gonna get 'em back

I've never seen them live, but I love them. I think Showbiz is the next album to listen to, followed by Origin Of Symmetry. I've just bought their new album today, so I'll let you know what I think when I given it a couple of listens. ^_^

Thanks Andy. Showbiz it is--I'll check it out, and give Absolution another spin while I'm at it (my favourite on that album being "Butterflies and Hurricanes").

Showbiz is an outstanding album.I went through a stage recently of just listening to that a lot again.Its far better than Origin of Symmetry which I do still love anyway.
For those who havent seen them live I really do advice it at some point because they completly blow you away.
I've heard a few songs from their new album but didnt know what to make of them.One of them I really did love but unsure about the others.I will have to get it soon.

The track, Unintended, is one of the most phenomenal songs/performances I've ever heard in my life... Showbiz is worth it for that song alone, but the whole album is superb. ^_^

Muse - Black Holes & Revelations (2006)

A review by JeffLynnesBeard

Muse are one of my greatest musical passions from the last ten years. Their new album Black Holes and Revelations, however, is one which is currently leaving me torn. I think it's an extraordinary album by today's standards and it is definitely something nobody else is doing at the moment or are really capable of doing. What's slightly disappointing is their lack of originality on this album - they've taken a lot of influences and worked them into their own style. It's Absolultion with added New Order and those who really love Muse for the guitar work will be a little disappointed as there's a lot more synths... and the drum sound is a little more 'electronic' this time round too. Their neo-classical pretensions are worn on their sleeve and there's even an attempt to re-write Ave Maria, treading over similar ground covered by previous work.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good listen - a great listen in fact - but this album isn't as big a revelation as the title suggests. If you're a Muse fan, you've heard virtually all of the melodies & riffs before and you'll either love or hate their new musical direction. If you're not a Muse fan then I doubt if this album will win you over because, despite their new-found 'pop' leanings, they've made their most bombastic and yet unfashionable album yet. One (super?) massive plus point about this album is the very last track Knights Of Cydonia which is utterly, utterly brilliant and one of the very best things they have done. My first impression when I heard that song was one of shocked awe and great excitement. Now that track... if the rest of the album was like it, it'd be the best album in the world, ever. Unfortunately, it's not - but it still blows the majority of artists and albums released this year out of the water.

8.5 out of 10.
Slightly disappointing, as they've set their own standards incredibly high, but a genuinely fine album nonetheless.

Hey Jude

Having listened to all of their albums recently, I've come to the conclusion that the latest Muse album is also their weakest, even though it's extremely good and, in fact, superb by any other band's standards.

I would rank Muse's four studio albums as follows;

1. Absolution
2= Origin Of Symmetry
2= Showbiz
4. Black Holes & Revelations

I honestly can't really decide between Origin Of Symmetry and Showbiz - they're both equally as good and also both virtually as good as Absolution. It's an incredible catalogue so far! :D

I have 3 of Muse's CDs. I love each one of them for their individual appeal. I would have to agree that Absolution is probably the best but I am greatly enjoying Black Holes and Revelations. I like the way they deveated from the sound in Absolution...it shows their diversity. When I first heard Absolution, I thought they sounded a lot like Radiohead who I also like. Maybe others thought as I did? This new CD shows me that they are completely unique and definitely a band we will here more about in the future. One of the DJs on KROQ (LA) gave them huge praise for the new CD and commented how there wasn't a song on it that he didn't love right away. That's pretty much how I felt when I heard their music for the first time....I loved it and immediately went out and bought it!!! I wish I would have seen them in concert but I missed it when they were in LA. Maybe another time...

I couldn't find the "Favourite Videos" thread, and so decided to post this here under Muse.

This is the video for "Knights Of Cydonia," itself a great song. The video is equally as good and had me from the first shot. A combination of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westens, Napoleon Dynamite/Nacho Libre, Star Wars, and more.
