4th of July Plans?

Just wondering what everyone has planned for the 4th of July for those that celebrate.

Last year we had a big get together at my parents and lit off fireworks over their pond, it was a great time.

I have no clue what we are doing this year.

What about everyone else, any plans?

Well, here's another clue for you all, the Walrus was Paul...
Well, my family and I are going 'up north' to our cabin on a lake...pontoon boat light parades, barn dance, fishing tournament, 4th of July parade, fireworks over the lake. We hang out with family and friends for about a week...I'm really looking forward to it!

well for the weekend there is a huge bike rally down the road from us. As my hubby has a parts and accessories store, it is sort of a business trip for us. Washed the harley today and am looking forward to a nice ride, this will be on saturday though, on the actual 4th, fireworks and barbeque - the standard american celebration

That weekend I'll be in NYC hopefully visiting the other Strawberry Fields for the first time (plus the Dakota and LaFortuna).

On the actual Fourth, I'll be too tired and stay home for fireworks. Actually I guess fireworks will happen in the days previous as Pat and I will be alone for the first time in years.

There will be plenty of fireworks that weekend in and around the harbor, especially around SOL.

Now THAT is a great way to celebrate ANYTHING! Strawberry Fields is beautiful and you'll probably run into a lot of fellow fans this weekend. Don't forget to have a nice chocolate pastry for dessert at La Fortuna :-)

I have no plans for the 4th but tonight we're going to the beach to walk by the ocean for a while, and then see Rocket Man, an Elton John cover band.

We'll have the grown kids and grandkids and other family members over for a fun day of games, swimming, eating, drinking and fireworks over the pond (and hopefully not get busted). The weather is showing rain on and off so we'll have to adjust to the weather. Hopefully the weather will rain at night.

Got any suggestions for cool restaurants?

Restaurants in New York? How long can a single post be?

Zen Palate
34 East Union Square (between 15th & 16th)
and 663 Ninth Ave (at 46th St)
Exceptional tong mein and something they call "rose petals" (soy crepes with wolfberry seeds & vegetables in sweet rice ginger sauce).

Pure Food & Wine
54 Irving Pl
Completely vegan.

Candle 79
154 E 79th St (near Lexington)
Formal vegetarian and vegan.

Candle Café
1307 Third Ave (at 75th St)
Casual vegetarian and vegan.

Both are members of the Animal Protection and Rescue League.

Rosa Mexicano
61 Columbus Ave (at 62nd St)
Excellent margaritas.

Dos Caminos Soho
475 W Broadway (at Houston)
100+ varieties of tequila.

Maya
1191 1st Ave (near 64th St)
Excellent margaritas.
100 varieties of tequila.

Va Tutto
23 Cleveland Place (Lafayette and Spring)
Italian trattoria (unfortunately, no margaritas).

Josie's
300 Amsterdam (at 74th)
Their baked corn macaroni with soy jalapeno jack and four grain vegetable loaf are both completely dairy free, but you would never know from the taste.

Yaffa's in Tribeca
353 Greenwich (at Harrison Street)
Excellent sandwiches & a wide variety of teas.

Counter
105 First Ave (between 6th and 7th)
Organic food and wine. They are so vegetarian that they use separate cooking utensils and plates for vegetarian and vegan dishes. Plus, their executive chef is Kosher certified. They have the largest organic wine list I have ever seen. And believe me, I have seen very few organic wine lists.

Jacques Torres Chocolate Haven
350 Hudson St (near Houston)
Not really a restaurant, but excellent chocolate.

And then on your second day....
Nurse, I spy gypsies. Run.

You'll want to have that many pastries they're really good

Rocketman almost got rained out at the beach last night - during their soundcheck the MC kept giving updates on the Mets/Yankees game and at one point said that the game had been stopped because of rain. As the clouds seemed to be quickly moving from west to east we knew it wasn't long before the rain got us and it soon did, for about 15 minutes. Tthe band (protected on top by a roof but open to the elements in front) did their best to keep the rain from blowing on their gear and the crowd ran for cover. But the storm blew through quickly, they wiped off the piano and the performance went on, a little late but worth the wait. The lead singer/pianist did a great Elton and the backup band was excellent too. Not a great picture, but the best I could get by stagelight...

Started my holiday at a wedding held at the Medinah Country Club. (Where they will have the PGA Major Championship next month.) A Greek/Mexican wedding. (OPAA / Aye Caramba!) Mariachi band, bizouki music and good ole fashion American DJ.

Yesterday the town shot off its fireworks and we viewed them from a party at the Lions Club.

Today is a good ole fashion Bar-be-que in the backyard and a bit of swimming. Then at dusk the pyros go to work. (It's legal here in Indian-er.)

Hope everyone has a HAPPY & SAFE 4th of JULY!
